[Archived] Rovers V Birmingham 3-3 (phew)
Eddie replied to cn174's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Going forward we were excellent. Great passing, movement and created oppurtunities. The defence, I think they'll get more stick than they deserve, should have done better, but for the majority of the match I don't think they were all that bad, especially Neill and Todd, Nissa and Jay on the left had a few problems. I think we should all take this chance to applaud Reid. He has taken a lot of stick on this board, with a lot of people saying he isn't premiership quality, today he was the best player on that pitch, and there are a few people on here who I think should hold their hands up. True it was only one game, but the boy has shown us he has it. Great fighting spirit to come back, shame Dickov couldn't take the chance at the very end because that would have made it the perfect game (other than conceding four goals). The fitness was great, and Hughes had his finger on the button when it came to who to take off and when. Obviously what he said at half time was right too, and on top of that, even if we had lost that game, the style of football that we played was the sort that I think we all want to see, entertainment without a doubt. -

3-1 Rovers -
Great man for the club, but it was probably about time. Hopefully he can continue to promote the club in some other form.
-
Dont think they would be able to afford them, and to be honest, though bazza may not have the attachment to this club that he does with Rangers, the obvious step up in quality of opposition and the extra respect he can earn in a more competitive league, even for a worse team, outweighs the positives of moving back to Scotland

Was positive last time, so no reason not to be this time around. Rovers 3-0 Norwich -
Its only fair that I vote based on those who I have seen firsthand, so from that list, had to go for Sherwood.

You have to start somewhere, and there is more chance of it happening with the supporters getting behind the club. We give the players a lot of stick, they went out and played very well last saturday, so now its only fair that we give them credit where credits due

[Archived] Liverpool Match Review 2 - 2

I thought Reid was good, and Neill, though still not the player he used to be, did his job. There was obvious skill there, Tugay, Ferguson, Emerton and Bothroyd all showed that they had it, while Dickov, though many probably wont mention it, also, as he has down already this season, showed that he isn't just a scrappy hard worker. I thought the way we passed and moved the ball was excellent, and I would have been equally pleased with that performance had it happened two seasons ago. -
don't dare have humble anything yet, long long way to go, doing well against a good team and getting a single point, it typical of a struggling side, because its about consistency. I'm really not slightly excited by todays performance because it reminds me of Manu 1996 when the score was 2-2 and then we managed to go another 8-9 without winning. Consistency but at least Hughes has shown bottle in making chances, thats a good sign. I question whether Souness would have ever dropped Matteo Thats one of way of looking at it. You could also say that it has to start somewhere, and I thought our performance yesterday was excellent. Who knows whether we'll actually start to turn things around now, but other than a poor first 10 minutes, and one error that cost another goal, I saw nothing wrong (though obviously we aren't Arsenal) with what happened out there. It wasn't just a back to the wall scrap like we showed we can do towards the end of last season, what was most impressive was that there was fight and passion, but the sort of skill I think we'd all want to see.

I thought it was a good hard working performance in which we also showed quite a bit of class. If we keep playing like that, I have no doubts that we will finish much higher up the table than we are now. The midfield was excellent, and I hope Nissa keeps his spot at the back. I thought the most refreshing thing about watching that team was actually seeing some young players out there. It just makes you feel better and more optimistic. -
The right sort of messages to be coming out of the Pedersen camp

Flopsy I don't think anyone is saying that there is any significant improvement. The point is more that he has only been in charge for five games, and needs to be given time.

Well may as well have a bit of optimism, at least for a day. 3-2 Rovers Rover 6- we did draw against liverpool. 2-2 wasn't it, december of the season we finished sixth, boxing day fixture, cole scored that stunner. -
Isn't he playing for the reserves at the moment?
-
Ah...thanks rovermatt. haha...well id rather be that then some headless 15 year old

Now that post gives me hope. If the players are not doing what they are supposed to it is Sparky's job to fix it, I trust he will. Perhaps things will get interesting. As long as the management realises it too, then we obviously have the right people in charge. Not their fault we were crap when they took charge.
-
Perhaps after playing virtually an entire season in Norway he is simply tired, and cannot keep up with the faster league he finds himself in now and just needs a break and time to adjust? Shock horror, a piece of logical reasoning.

Sitting in the car today I was thinking about our current state and the thought popped into my head, "things will turn around, we are too good to go down" (no one get into that debate, this isn't the point). Then I thought, well who are the players that make us this, Emerton, Ferguson, Stead (?), Friedel, Short (when fit) . The rest are either inconsistent or just bad. I thought back to the days when our team was young and talented with the likes of Dunn, Duff, Jansen, Thompson and Neill being some of the best players in the country in their positions. Now I'm not going to have some big moan because I don't think we are going to go down, and I do think things will turn around and we will get back up there, it just takes time and right now we are rebuilding, but it seems to me that Thompson is very much a symbol for Rovers, I really can't wait to have him back, because he's the one player left from the "glory" years of recent times who's reputation is really still intact, other than being injury prone and unlucky. Edit: I do know that I just babbled on for a bit there, ignore it if you wish

haha...well Im so glad I was included in this

[Archived] Rovers 0 V 4 Middlesbrough review
Eddie replied to Ozz's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Our team is actually quite well known, we just don't think of it as that because they aren't playing that well and they are our own players. All the time, even here in France, I get people coming up and asking me about Stead, how he is doing this season, and where did we get him from, things like that. In Friedel we have one of the best keepers in the Premiership. Emerton was well sought after, and is finally living up to that. Ferguson is Scotland captain, and another well respected premiership player. Tugay is well known throughout the world for his exploits for Turkey, and also a couple of seasons ago many regarded him as the best at what he did in the premiership (yes that was passing to a totally unmanned area of the field ) True, after that you are probably talking about players who most know, but they don't stick out, the likes of Dickov, Flitrcroft, Amo... The team isn't all that bad though, if we are still down here in 6-10 games time, then I'll be worried, but for now, I don't mind. Every once in a while you are going to get thumped, it happens. -

People have to be held accountable for their own actions. If we want to start laying blame away from the individual we may as well give up on free will, democracy and free markets, none of those will work with that sort of mentality.
