I like him as a squad player and he can definitely do a job as either a sub or a player starting in the right situations, but I fear that he will expect to be paid as a starter and that would almost certainly be too much.
-
We have hopefully saved ourselves a bit of money and he has the chance to go somewhere and actually play some football. Showed glimpses of his ability and was certainly one of the best finishers at the club. His lack of pace was a major issue and made it difficult for him to make a position his own. His constant injury problems also derailed any opportunities to build form and consistency. Made sense why we signed him, it was worth a punt, but didn't work out.
-
Maybe, but I can't think of many players who continue to improve after 200+ first team appearances when they haven't shown continual improvement throughout that time. He will likely get a bit better, but not by much.
-
He's also not THAT young. He'll turn 24 next season and he's already played a lot, as you point out. There's not much improvement to be expected. It reminds me a bit of the clip of Mourinho discussing Rashford. Dolan already has so much experience that you can't expect further experience to really improve him unless he is to play at a higher level/standard. There's no reason to think that another 100 Championship matches will radically see what we get out of him now. Over the 30ish matches we get from him a season we will get 10 good, 10 bad, 10 average and we will see an end product of 10 goals/assists. That's fine, but his limitations are serious enough that he should be viewed as a squad player.
-
Well, you know, Kargs and the lads, have, you know, been working hard. We are, you know, really pulling together. The lads are, you know, enjoying it.
-
We're going in circles on this one, but there are some major elements within that where I disagree.
-
Players of his ilk are definitely going to come with a fair degree of failure and frustration. We have to be prepared to watch him lose the ball a few times in order to see him do something good. Hopefully he is given the freedom to take those chances (in the right areas).

Aren't release clauses just standard practice? It seems like a difficult one to exclude from a coaches contract. Regarding the second point, it will always be speculative as we don't know whether he approached that conversation in good faith, if he was simply making himself look better, or whether it was a shot to nothing. On several occasions in my career I have made my employer aware of the fact that I intended to move on and I have spoken to them about 'things that would make me stay'. Those demands have rarely been reasonable as I've only ever made it to that stage once my mind was firmly made up and I knew there was little to do to keep me. So, that isn't a criticism of Eustace, but I also don't believe that he entered into that Monday conversation with any intention of staying - and the club likely will have known that.
-
...and maybe they were right to not give him everything that he wanted? The involvement in transfers, for example. We've not been great, but we've not been awful. The argument is that more money should have been made available, but his desire to be heavily involved in the transfers themselves is questionable.
-
I guess the thing I don't truly understand is why almost every criticism of Eustace and how he behaved and handled this situation is met with: 'But Waggott...but the owners.' It's hard to find anyone on here who will defend either of those parties, so it isn't really a logical response to the criticism of our former manager.
-
This is the bit that I don't really understand. I don't want to speak on behalf of 'onlyonejackwalker' and we probably don't agree on everything, but I'm growing tired of some of the reaction that the Eustace criticism gets. It is possible to be critical of Eustace AND of our owners AND of Waggott. It is possible to think that Eustace behaved poorly whilst also acknowledging that it is a smaller issue compared to bigger problems that we face. But it is still possible to be annoyed and disappointed by all of that. To be honest, I have too much pride in this club to allow the owners and Waggott to lower my standards so much that I will find Eustace's behaviour acceptable. We deserve better on all fronts, but this included on managerial behaviour. Many of you treat this as if it is binary. It simply isn't.
-
You don't know that. No one really knows if it is true or false, but there appears to be enough smoke to at least consider the possibility that he applied - or had interest expressed through back channels - for multiple jobs.
-
As I said, it's too early and Kargbo could end up being absolute rubbish, but we do have quite a large sample size with Dolan and have seen enough to know that he is far from reliable and, even at his very best, is hardly a devastating asset. Decent player, should be a squad player for a Championship side in the top half.
-
Would it? Far too early to judge, but I'd say we will get more out of Kargbo than we get out of Dolan. Dolan basically averages 5 goals and 5 assists per season whenever he gets 30+ appearances. I think we can get that for under 2 million and without breaking the bank on the wage front. He is a very average Championship player, but he does a few things right that make it look like he could be more than that.
-
I think it will be quite a bit more than that.
-
There is one alternative. He thought he could leverage serious interest from another club and felt that it was only shot at getting at least some of the things he wanted. A new contract? Some extensions for existing players? Perhaps more influence over transfer and budgets? Maybe he overplayed his hand and thought that the club wouldn't want him to walk away while they were sitting 5/6th in the table. If this is the case, then he failed to truly appreciate just how insane most of the decision-making is here.
-
Let’s say we get 1-1.5m. Is he worth much more than that? Would we be happy signing the Dolan equivalent for 2.5m? Doubt it.
-
He won’t be a free transfer. There will be compensation.
-
He does really need pace for the type of player he is trying to be. He blows hot and cold. He's having a bit of a purple patch at the moment and deserves his place in the side, but I can totally understand why he would be a difficult one to renew. We will end up overspending on a player who should really be a squad player. He was very good in the second half, but he was one of our biggest problems in the first half.

Agreed. Showed a lot more intent and confidence. Lowe also made more attacking substations. Eustace would have really sat back at 1-0 and tried to protect the lead. -

We don't know enough to really speculate on how we are covering his wages and what we have to pay. We do know that we are paying a fraction of his actual salary, but no idea how that is structured. -

Probably, but Cardiff and Hull picked up points. It’s been a very bad 24 hours for him. -

Maybe we are paying him 15,000 to sit on the bench and 20,000 if he plays (or some sort of similar arrangement). We’ve seen it in the past… -

If we are being cynical… Do we have to pay more for Dennis when he makes a league appearance? Is that why we might be less likely to see him late on in games where the result is decided…
