Well, fuck that then. How can one fucking swear out of fucking context?

bit rich to speak to people like children when one of them must have been relating to your own post... A post that remains unedited I should add.

He came through British academies, so I'm sure he will have been on everyone's radar domestically. Mowbray hasn't been perfect in the transfer market and we could maybe do with finding some more 'original' targets, but overall he's been good and I don't think anyone could accuse of us simply mindlessly spending money. Most of our signings have been relatively inexpensive and for the most part, they've been successful. Yes, we can judge Armstrong a bit harshly on his early season form, but then his form last season and the part that he played in getting us promoted also has to be factored in (even if he was on 'only' on loan). The total amount spent on our squad is relatively small, even by Championship standards, so Mowbray certainly deserves a little bit of trust from the supporters. All I would like for him to receive is a bit of encouragement to take a risk or two right now that might see us make the playoffs. We have a chance, not a huge one, but a chance. That is worth rolling the dice on.

If people want to discuss Brereton and his fee they should do so in the thread dedicated to the player. Almost every news outlet reported the fee as being structured, with the possibility that it could rise to 6-7m. I'm not going out on a limb by stating that; however, all of you asserting that this isn't common knowledge or that we may have locked ourselves into a 7m fee are. I think it is perfectly appropriate to ask that people stop endlessly discussing it in a topic that relates to player movement in THIS window.
-
...he's signed for Bordeaux
-
Well, let me use your own argument against you then. In spite of countless reports on the fee (which have been very clear), no one knows how it is structured. Therefore, how can you assert that it is a largeish fee? Give it a rest.
-
Revidge, I think you and others are sort of missing the point on this. Brereton's fee isn't described as 'potentially 7m' because it is being paid in instalments. It is described in that way because it is based on performance (both personal and team performance). It's really very simple. I don't understand why this is still being discussed. We don't need another person to say 'I don't think everyone realises that transfers aren't paid in full'. If he establishes himself as a good player for us we will probably end up paying near 7m for him. If he turns out to be a complete flop then we will pay nowhere near that amount. We haven't shelled out 7m, either upfront or in a payment structure. Can we please stop endlessly discussing his transfer. It's all relatively clear and simple and now we can just wait and see if he makes it into the first team and becomes a useful player for us. It's all painfully boring.

Dack is just the sort of player that a lot of teams in the relegation battle are missing. Not good enough to help them stay up, but someone that will stay with them and be able to help them bounce back. Dack simply doesn't have the physical abilities necessary to be able to thrive at a higher level. He's found his perfect spot right now, maybe he's aware of that.
-
Is it really that surprising? How many championship midfielders get big money moves to the Premier League? It's a pretty short list. The most likely move for Dack will be to a 'bigger' Championship club if/when it becomes clear that we can't seriously/consistently challenge for promotion.
-
We should always be careful when judging players based on the feedback of supporters of their current club. Think of what the reviews would have been for Graham, Mulgrew, Rodwell, Bellamy, Santa Cruz... Equally, many fans would not believe the rave reviews we gave players before they went on to fail elsewhere.
-
Well, I won't be holding my breath on this one, but I can't quite believe the number of people with reservations when it comes to this. We have a genuine chance of making the playoffs. I wouldn't bet on us making it there right now, but if we are going to make a run we will need investment in the team. The championship is a tough league, there's nothing to say that we will be this close to the playoffs/promotion this time next season. Where will he play? Well, we have an ageing forward up front who is hardly scoring for fun. He's playing well, he's good at holding the ball up and bringing others into play, but I'm not sure if that actually brings the best out of the talent that he has around him. We desperately need a bit of pace to stretch teams and this could be just the thing. Now, I still don't expect it to come off as it seems a totally un-Rovers thing to happen, but I would be delighted if it did.
-
Two poor performances and I don't want to see it continue, but the nature of the Championship is that you're going to have a bad run of 4-5 games at some point. We would have all taken this league position at the start of the season so there is no reason to panic.
-
I was going to write something more profound, but then I was distracted by how amazingly clever your username is.
-
'Not going to be signing anyone now, far too late'....is this everyone's first transfer window? Deals regularly happen very quickly in the final hour or two.
-
No premier league club will be bidding on Dack. Who's going to spend 10m+ on a 24-year-old with a couple of good league one seasons and who only makes national headlines when he finds himself in the gossip section of the papers? Next summer he might go if he really does well this year, but there's no way bids are coming in for him from premier league clubs before the window closes.
-
I don't get this panic. There are plenty of teams who are still waiting to do major business, we're not alone. We've got our key players to sign new deals and brought in a couple of players and I'm sure that by the end of the window we will have made our moves. Judge the window at the end, no point being worried now. It would have been great to have everything wrapped up by now and to have a squad together, but if we have to bring players in on deadline day we will still have a season ahead of us. I'd rather make the right move than the first move.

I've seen mention of it on here, but is there an xbox app? Or an app for smart tvs?
-
Happy we played a strong side. Happy we slightly changed our approach. Happy that we won. As others have mentioned, winning is a habit and to follow a relegation with two defeats to start the season could have potentially really hurt morale. Hopefully we can produce a similar performance this weekend, but Coventry aren't terribly far behind the standard of opposition that we will be facing this year and that was a good performance away from home. I'm also very pleased that we responded well to letting them get back into the game.
-
Worked fine for me. Obviously not great when it's a single-camera affair, a bit dizzying at times, but it isn't bad. If that is the minimum standard I'll be happy with the service for 130 euros.

[Archived] News Article -> Podcast - We're Gonna Finish 2nd

Great to have the podcast back. Well done. -
I always quite liked Mowbray, I liked the way he tried to get teams to play and his honesty with how he responded to questions. Both of those traits have probably led to his undoing at some of his previous jobs, but I think they could be a breath of fresh air for us. I am not sure exactly who else we were expecting to take the job of fighting against relegation in the Championship, but he is at least experienced and respected. For the time being he is being honest and has handled the questions well, let us hope that this continues and that the wins and points follow.

In the 'academy' products you can see Valdes (still three years with another academy), Pique (time spent with two other clubs during key years and was bought back for 5m), Alba (similar to Pique and bought back for 4m), Fabregas (similar to Pique, but in this case for 40m), The only true products of their academy that started that match are Xavi, Busquets, Iniesta and Messi and it is still a starting line up that cost nearly 200m euros to assemble. Hardly a victory for football. -

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. Big Team A 3-4 Big Team B Don't know why so many on here spend their time hating the likes of City and United but can then have a soft spot for teams like Real, Barcelona or Bayern. Local rivalries aside, big clubs are big clubs. Some will have a few more home grown players in them at any one time, but they are all spending obscene amounts of money and that makes them good. Don't know why people feel that it wasn't a red. Contact was minimal, but once he got goalside he had to avoid making any contact and it was a deserved red card. Real were the side that got the better decision when Real was clearly tripped outside of the box - something that was clear as day even at full speed. -
