The thing about MGP, at least for me, is that although I would sell him, I also wouldn't be surprised to see him be a big success elsewhere. He certainly has talent, in the right team he would be a very good player, as he was earlier for us. I still think he will turn it around eventually.

Seems to be all too common at the moment though. What was the last major release that wasn't pushed back?

We seem to have had a lot of players recently who have kids without getting married. -

I used the wall mount package thing that came with it, fixed onto the wall quite easily. It was falt against the wall, but I could have tilted it down slightly, but would have had to pulled it slightly further away from the wall in order to be able to do that. -

I'm in the Tony Gale camp here. I think he's an ok player and valuable member of the squad, but he'll never be good enough to regularly start for us. -

I've had a walmounted tv, only a couple inches off of the wall, probably about 5-5/12 feet up the wall. Not very hard to do. -
Yeah, it is surprising that it didn't get any nominations for that work, my problem with the movie was that it was really only that, but it certainly was well done.

I thought Juno was pretty good, nice little film. Really dsliked 300 and Zodiac though, so probably just very different tastes.

My point is, if you were all working in an enviroment where players were earning upwards of 100k a week and you thought that you were one of the most talented players in the league, then why would you accept an offer of 55k a week. It's still a lot of money, but compared to some of your peers it is "nothing". It's easy to forget now that his career has gone slightly off track and he's been hit by a lot of injuries, but after Euro 2004 I think most would have considered him the best left-back in the world, so he would have expected to be earning close to top-dollar. Now I'm not saying that justifies him coming out and making an ass of himself in the press, he should just shut up about it and be happy with the contract he has, but those of you being critical of him for either being surprised by how low the offer from Arsenal was or for then rejecting it and moving clubs to get more should just consider how you would react if you were in his situation. I don't think any footballer deserves 55k a week, that isn't at all what I'm saying, but I think some of the criticism on here is undeserved.

Here's the thing, how many of you would honestly have turned down the bigger wage offer?

Well, the only thing that works in our favour in that respect is that I don't see many jobs becoming available soon. Newcastle, Chelsea and Spurs have recently changed managers. Arsenal and United have no reason to, unless one of them retires. Villa, City, Everton and Portsmouth will all be very happy with who they have at the moment. The only real threat is Liverpool, but I can't see them going for Hughes even if, more likely when, Benitez goes.

We're not exaclty the only club to be midtable or slightly above who haven't spent absolute billions on players.

I'm really looking forward to Juno, as an Arrested Development fan it's nice to see a couple of them working together.

Producing the goods for me means getting the side to play well. As I said, nothing to do with the Coventry game really, I've never judged a player or a manager based on one game. Why is Hughes more likely to turn it around than Souness? Souness had more managerial experience and more money to spend (it seems). Hughes was fantastic at Wales for a while, then things went stale, so you could say that based on his record he is sticking true to form. I don't look at the team we have now and think it's an achievement to be clear of relegation. When I look at the team we have now I see a side that should be in the top 6-7, we aren't. We're close, but if you want me to specifically define what doing well is rather than simply judging it on performances (which I feel is the far more valid way to do it), then we are 2-3 spots below where we should be. We could still have a good year, we could still finish in the top 4 (won't happen), or the top 6 (good chance), but that doesn't change the fact that as things stand they aren't looking that great.

I'm sorry, all hail the untouchable Hughes!

I was losing faith before, mainly based on league performances, the cup game yesterday added to it, just like the cup run last season somewhat saved it. If you think the football we have played over the past 10-12 games is good enough then that's fine. If you don't see any very serious problems in the current side then that is also fine. When I look at our team right now I see problems that have nothing to do with how much money we have to spend or even the quality of the players we have, but something that is going on in that team and the way it is being run. I do still believe that Hughes can solve that, but as I watch him make some very strange changes and decisions I am starting to think that maybe he can't.

From September to the end of December the amount of money you have doesn't matter, it's all about the squad of players and Hughes, mainly thanks to his own good work, has a good squad of players. The thing for me is that his job isn't simply to assemble a good bunch of players, he then has to get that good bunch of players to do something. Now maybe I'm making him a victim of the success he has had in the transfer market, but when you have a bunch of players that is better than most sides in the league then I expect you to do well, as I'm sure he does as well. I'm not being knee-jerk here, so people can't use that as a way to dismiss me, I may be wrong but I've been saying the same things for a while. This season has not been great, last season wasn't anything particularly special and was only really saved by the FA Cup Semi and the fact that we luckily got into Europe through the intertoto. Now people will come back to that by saying that being in an FA Cup final was special and to a certain extent I agree, but I'll always judge a manager based on the league unless he manages to bring in some silverware, which as of yet Hughes hasn't done and he won't do this year either. As I said, I'm not calling for him to go, but I just get that feeling that his time may be approaching. I'll back any manager we have through virtually everything, I've never called for one to be fired and I doubt that I ever will, but the Souness experience taught me to always judge them based on how they are handling the side at this moment in time. When I look at this side I look at a bunch of players who often seem lost, who don't know what the manager wants, now that is the biggest problem any manager can have. I hope he sorts it out, he's done some great things, he's a nice man and I would be happy to see him stay here for a long time, but it is the most important position at the club and we can't afford to allow someone to slowly rot when they aren't getting the job done. We're a few points of the champions league, that's great, but our recent performances have been more like bottom four rather than top four and by recent I mean the last 10 or so games, which is a fairly significant chunk of the season. We've gone out to three sides in cups who we really should have beaten, particularly two of them, and when you think about that in that sort of way it isn't good. I'm not impressed by Hughes at the moment. He has unhappy players, a side that appears to lack motivation and he doesn't seem to have everyone on the same page, whilst his faliure to address the problem we've had in central midfield worries me. I'll just say it once more though, I'm not calling for him to go.

I don't play told you so. I stuck by Souness until the very end, I was actually sad when he left, but I took a lesson from that. Manager's have shelf-lives, they lose teams, their game-plan is found out, I'm getting closer and closer to thinking that has happened to Hughes. I support the Chicago Bulls and after a couple of good seasons Skiles lost his team, they didn't put in the effort anymore, they weren't playing for him and he needed to go. The guy had done a good job, but it was his time. I'm happy to admit that I was wrong with Souness, I stuck by the cup-winning Souness, the 6th placed finishing, I don't want to do the same with Hughes. What's odd is that many of you accuse me of sticking by the Benni of last year, which perhaps I am and it is probably not right for me to set different standards for players and managers, but the majority of you who are most critical of me for sticking by Benni say that this is a new season and he hasn't produced the good this year, well this is a new season for Hughes and he hasn't produced the goods this year. I'm not going to give a manager carte blanche because he had one great season, one mediocre season and one heading towards poor season.
-
I'm not advocating getting rid of him, just that I'm losing faith in hime. It is based more on performances, his own decisions and the inability to improve certain aspects of the team and remove basics errors. I'm not really judging him on the results themselves. How anyone can't be seriously concerned with the level of performances for the past two months or so really worries me. It's a tough pill to swallow, but he has to be held accountable for them and they have been well below par. Is there a single person on this board who would have accepted being out of the UEFA Cup, League Cup and FA cup whilst sitting 9th in the table at this point in the season? You can defend him all you want with the fact that he doesn't have as much money as some others, but he gets a lot of money to do his job and I think he has a core group of some very good players.
-
I'm losing faith in him, big time.
-
Matty has had his chances and I've yet to see him impress when he's started. He's put in some very good performances off of the bench, but he doesn't have enough quality if he isn't coming on towards the end of the game to add that bit of pace and running.

Well if the government supplies it at the same price, if not less, which you would assume they would be able to do given the fact that drug suppliers make a huge profit and the government would have some advantages, then you would have to ask why the criminals would keep it at? I'm sure it would still be there, just like you see illegal cigs and alcohol sometimes, but it certainly wouldn't be anywhere near to the level it is at now. The usage might be the same, but at least the money wouldn't be going towards criminals who are just using it to fund other activities.

[Archived] Benni Mccarthy - Gone
Eddie replied to adam lodge's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Benni is also very quick to praise. If he thinks you did the right thing he'll acknowledge it, even if the execution was poor. He's having a go at the rest of the team because he's frustrated, probably with both his own play and that of the team as a whole. -
[Archived] Pedersen Needs Converting!
Eddie replied to EIEIEIO's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Agree with you there. On top of that his crosses weren't even that good. He put in three good balls (the two goals and the amazing miss), but let's be honest, only one of those was really at all difficult. We gave him space to run in and he did, it didn't take any real talent. Pedersen did far more than he did in the second half and that really isn't saying much.
