[Archived] Benni Mccarthy - Gone

You do realise that this could well be one interview. Newspapers have simply used the same interview, picking different quotes and making the story their own. -

I won't judge him until I see an interview with him so I can see exactly what he says or until he is off. Until then it is all stuff being manipulated and passed on. I still can't see a big club coming in for him, I would be very surprised. -

Have to admit that I might be tempted to put in a bid for Yakubu, regardless of whether Benni leaves or not. He seemed a bit lost in the second half of the season and they are one of the few clubs in the premiership who I actually think we could "pick-on" like the big clubs do with us. -

People are always so quick to point out that Benni hasn't got many assists, but it is often his vision that sets up a move that leads to a goal (for example to pass to Warnock yesterday or the backheel to MGP against Charlton). He doesn't get any statistical credit for this, but he makes a larger contribution to the side then just goals. -

That is true, but that was at a point when they were fighting to stay up and they knew they needed him in order to have a chance. I think he'll be available this summer for a reasonable price and he is a player we should look at. He scores all types of goals, has pace and works hard (which seems to be what most people think is most important about a striker). He's slightly overrated probably, but that doesn't make him a bad player, he's a very good one and he's only going to get better. -

He's said time and again that he'll stay as long as we want him and I'll believe him. Of course if we accept a bid he'll be off like a shot, just like everyone in this side, but I don't think he'll cause any trouble and I doubt that any serious bids from the big four will come in. -

Totally agree krislu. Benni is one of our players this season who can simply say that he has done his job and done it well. If you want to look for scapegoats and reasons for why we aren't higher up the league then look elsewhere. -

Comparing him to Henry in his prime (who at the time was probably the best player in the world) is far, far over the top. People are being drawn in by the media a lot with Berbatov, he's been good, but not that special. -

It's a lot of money for a player and there isn't a reason for United to need to go for Berbatov at that price when there are actually quite a lot of very good strikers around at the moment. -

Ferguson will have lost the plot if he pays that much for Berbatov. -

I'd be willing to put money on the fact that if you do know a spurs player (why you can tell us all this and not tell us which spurs player you know) that he is messing yuo around. Berbatov may well end up going to United, but not for that sort of deal. That would make it a 25-28 million pound deal effectively. -

Ferguson has said he wants 3 players this summer. We know that Hargreaves must be one, I would imagine that he'll bring in a defender as well and probably someone to get them goals, but I'd think it unlikely that he would have identified Benni as that "must-have" man. -

I actually believe Benni when he says he'll let the club decide his future. He's said it from the start and I think as long as we want him to be there and a bid isn't too good to turn down, which I don't think will happen, then he'll be here next season. -
Once again wasn't a good year for me by the looks of it, although at least I will have got most of the teams in the correct half of the table (lot of skill in that).

I play a boring old 4-4-2 with flat back four and midfield with the wide players making runs forward. I then play with a defensive setting, short passing, high tempo and on a narrow setting. I change this slightly for some leagues, like in Italy, where I slow down the tempo and play with a deep defensive line, or I might get them to close down more often. It generally works very well and I'm reluctant to break with the tried and trusted, although I have been toying around with some new ones. -
For me Peter has the largest amount of potential of all the current youth products (that's including Derbyshire and Gallagher). He has the pace and crossing ability to make himself into a very good left winger. All he will need is a good run of games of first team football to refine those skills and get used to playing. He may need to go on loan for a while because unless MGP leaves he is unlikely to get that chance.

At least by putting it in a quote you have ensured that he can't revise that idea...

Eddie replied to FourLaneBlue's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Yes, but Derbyshire has been getting regular football over the past few months and has been scoring goals, when was the last time that Nonda even played? -
I don't think Bentley dives much really, he simply makes the most of challenges. He'll throw himself in the air and dip his shoulder as he falls to make challenges look worse then they were, but they are usually fouls. I'd rather not see a player do it, but what he's doing isn't horrible.

...Still a chance of him being the top goal scorer in the league. -

That makes sense, it's a good quality of the game, but these were managers I had, had no interaction with before; except in the case of Wenger who I had dealt with before and we were even "friends". -

Anyone else had a problem with clubs refusing to accept bids even after they've accepted similar bids, sometimes even less money, from other clubs. I've recently had four teams who refused to accept bids from me, even when I put in a bid woth up to 272,000,000 for a player worth 345k and they had already accepted bids of 500k. In a slight less ridiculous example I was bidding for Muamba and, despite the fact that Arsenal had already accepted bids of 1.3 million, they wouldn't sell him to me even if I bid up to 5 million (money that I had). They had already accepted bids for me for other players so it wasn't simply that they didn't like me or something. It is a very annoying glitch. -

Got Crystal Palace to the playoff final only two have my two best players, including my star striker who had scored 12 in 14, go away on international duty. -
Always good movies.

That could be amazing, could be rather crap. I really enjoy playing online games much more than just by myself, so it will certainly be something I'll try and get.
