  1. English football does not have anywhere near to the worst hooligan problem in domestic football in Europe.
  2. For me Adriano is overrated. A good player yes, but not amongst the best strikers in the world, at least not yet. The others are of course all very good, but three players don't make them the best side ever.
  3. I think Frey has simply been unlucky. He's quite highly rated here but always just misses out. I would have included Mexes but I can understand why he hasn't been taken. N'Zogbia will break through soon enough, he's represented France at youth levels and in a year or so I have no doubt he'll get a call up. There are a lot of good young French midfiedlers around, the problem is that they need some of them to push on and become world class and I'm not sure who it will be from the group that will do it.
  4. I'll probably be slaughtered but I really feel that Brazil are overrated. Talented group going forward but they don't look that strong at the back, while lets face it, some of their attacking players live upon a reputation purely based on the fact that they are Brazilian.
  5. Not all of the players were in the squad.
  6. Think the math on the last bit is a little off, I really wish it was 2.7 points a game though.
  7. Yes, but I think the big difference is that at the last tournament you had to get through a group that simply contained one of the smaller of the "big" nations. This time you are facing two of the best sides in the world, both of whom could be classed as underdogs and dark horses in their own way. I've becomed tired of this debate with American friends who time and time again say "look at 2002", get through, maybe, win the group and you need a few Italians and Czechs to pick up the Spurs virus.
  8. I think it unlikely that America don't take a point, but it is a reasonable prediction given their group. Personally can't see them taking more than three.
  9. Jan, I don't think anyone is really going to disagree with you; but you have to admit that he was a great manager for us in his first 3 seasons here and I for one am very glad that we had him.
  10. I think you forget just how poor a side we were. Promotion was a very long way off and up until the upturn in form when Parkes first took charge we were looking like a side that could have gone down.
  11. He basically only makes the squad because he is so versatile.
  12. Also, another thing to consider when you compare their scoring records is the fact that Dickov took penalties for us. Now I'm not saying that makes a huge difference but it is worth taking into consideration. They were both good signings and we would be in the championship had either of the not come at the time that they did. The difference is that when we signed Cole I think we had one of the best strikers in the league, when we signed Dickov we had one of the hardest workers.
  13. Rooney making perfect recovery says England doctor
  14. It's nice when it happens.
  15. I would disagree with that. If anything there is more pressure at Arsenal. There he is the leader and the star and expected to produce the goods or else the team fails, at Barcelona he could easily not perform at his best and the team would still do well.
  16. Of course they do, they would be silly if they didn't. That isn't to say that it they are pinning their hopes on him not being fit, but just as we would be pleased if France didn't have Henry or Brazil didn't have Ronaldinho they will be pleased if we do not have Rooney.
  17. I think you're being overly harsh there on Arsenal's tactics. If that is true then I have to say Barcelona's lack of a a cutting edge up until the 75th minute was quite shocking, while their inability to handle the Arsenal attacks also quite poor.
  18. If you think AC Milan, Juventus or whoever else might not be interested because when he was there as a young man he didn't score goals is simply ridiculous. He's gone on to prove that he is one of the best strikers and players in the world, he could score goals anywhere and everyone will know that.
  19. To say he failed in Italy is ridiculous. He was a very young man and not the footballer he is today, as for Barcelona not being interested in him, that is pure rubbish.
  20. That is fine, but would they really have done that in the Champions League final?
  21. 71% to Barcelona actually and as for not trying to win the game they played a very good game for being down to 10 men for such a long period of time and actually had better chances to score than Barcelona did up until the 75th minute. I'm not an Arsenal fan, never have been, so it isn't as if you are discussing this with horribly biased people. Would Barcelona have also gone more defensive had they been down to 10 men? Yes, of course, no team goes down to 10 men and continues to play in exactly the same style, that is called stupidity. The calls didn't go both ways, apart from the free kick that Arsenal scored from I doubt you can show me any decision that went there way. I could name countless bookings that should have been for Barcelona players which could well have changed the way in which they were able to defend.
  22. Show me a good loser in football. The officials didn't do a good job and it is difficult to take a defeat when you feel as if things might have been different had there been some different decisions made.
  23. I'm happy as I think it is nice to see a bit of loyalty in football and also great to have such a talented player in the Premiership. It is also nice as I don't like Barcelona very much and it is good that they won't have him there to strengthen their side.
  24. I think you'll be surprised. There is a reason he is in that squad and it is because of what he achieved while in France and even what he did while at Rangers. I'm not a France supporter so I'll enjoy it if he makes some mistake that sees them knocked out, but I do rate him as a defender and I'll be interested to see if he plays the way that he can and goes some way to restoring a reputation that he has destroyed amazingly quickly at Newcastle. Having said that, there are some very good players at Newcastle and I would say that only Given and Owen are left with their reputations intact after last season.
  25. I'm not sure who it was but a Barca player made a horrible attempt at a dive just outside the Arsenal box which was ignored by the ref and still the player wasn't booked. It was laughable how few bookings were shown to Barcelona and how many were shown to Arsenal, in particular the booking of Henry when he simply kicked the ball.
