  1. Agree with you totally joey. If we don't lose any of our remaining games (much more realistic), then I'd be very impressed. I have to say I thought we were going to lose, so there is a certain feeling of relief at the moment. A real shame though that Filan produced that save from Bellamy.
  2. Yes, I thought it was a foul, but to be fair the keeper didn't have the ball under control. As far as I know the rules of the game state that if the keeper doesn't have the ball under control then he and the ball can be challenged. Yes, though, made up for the other. True, they also had a goal wrongfully disallowed but MGP would have put us into the lead and I don't think they would have been able to come back for that. Stop the doom and gloom jim. Alright, we weren't great and we've missed out on a possible three points, but we can't be brazil every week and not even Chelsea always win. Bolton and Arsenal have very tough games this weekend and I expect City to bounce back and give Spurs a run for their money. Hopefully we will play the way we can against a team in the bottom three.
  3. My dad, a United supporter, turned to me after that and said "doesn't look like 4th place stuff to me". As I pointed out to him no one really does in this end of season scrap, the only exception being Arsenal, but then again they go from one extreme to another and are likely to be crap in one or two remaining fixtures. Spurs didn't look top quality against West Brom last week. The important thing at this time of the season is to pull of results, we didn't quite do it tonight, but it will do.
  4. Oh well. I always knew we were going to have an off game between here and the end of the season, let's hope that we have it out of our system now and can get back to the good stuff, at least we came away with a point. We obviously haven't helped our champions league aspirations much with this result but not losing when it looked like we would has done our uefa cup hopes the world of good. Just a shame that Filan produced that great save at the end to deny Bellamy. Loved the goal though, nice old fashioned one.
  5. I'm happy to see that Camara isn't playing for them.
  6. Not sure about that Revidge Blue. True, they will now be 7 points behind but they would still have two games in hand. It would put us firmly in the driving seat ahead of them but I still wouldn't be a brave enough man to totally rule them out, even if they do have a difficult run-in.
  7. I presume American you are for the legalization of all drugs then? Actually, why make anything against the law really, it is just an infringement upon my civil liberties. Excellent example there American about slavery, had a government not eventually been strong minded and strong willed enough to put an end to it, it would have continued on. Eventually we have to bite the bullet with certain things, smoking is unnecessary and harmful and it is about time that world governments started to get their acts together about the issue. As for the suggestion of starting up a Bar in Paris, thank you very much, it is a great idea. It's something I've already considered at length and you'd probably be surprised to know that if I opened it today it smoking would be allowed. That is for one simple reason, I couldn't afford to do otherwise. As for the classification of bars and restaurants they are classified as public leisure facilities and hospitality workplaces. They are essentially open to the public though the owner still has the right to turn anyone away.
  8. I'm not sure if I missed something but as far as I could tell Robson gave them some grief about coming out of the tunnel several minutes late, which seems fair, and then things became heated on the touchline in a close game during which both teams did their fair share of dangerous tackels and spectacular dives, though Chelsea probably ended up winning on every front. Now all of that seems to be pretty standard football stuff and at the end of most matches you'll see managers put it to the side enough to at least be able to shake hands. His failure to do so says a lot about the man, how much he thinks of himself and the lack of respect he has for his fellow managers, opposition and the history of the English game.
  9. Agree with you there T4E. I have a feeling though that we'll have the same feeling before all of our remaining games. So much to play for and so much to be lost if we don't get the results we need, made all the worse by the fact that they are very much achievable. I'm looking forward to the Liverpool and Chelsea games because at least in those matches the pressure will be off to a certain extent. I just really hope we don't let ourselves down tonight.
  10. I think they have been mentioned several times. We'd all like to get rid of cars if we could, but it simply isn't possible at the minute. Hopefully we all use public transportation as much as possible and try to buy fuel efficient cars, but cars are a necessary evil at the moment, though I am sure everyone is in full support of the development of technology that could help reduce and if not eliminate such emissions. No point saying, well may as well because we have that. We can try to get rid of as many harmful elements of life as we possibly can, smoking is an unnecessary but incredibly dangerous one that we have the opportunity to eliminate relatively easily without any cost, though I'm sure a few addicts and tobacco producers would disagree.
  11. Cars, planes, trains and a ton of other things that require energy.
  12. Yes, but as many people have mentioned, most recently jan only two posts up, a football ground is open air and so it would be impossible from stopping the smoke from drifting. If they want to dedicate some closed off room somewhere in the ground to smoking then I have no problem with that.
  13. Actually, if you had read all of my posts I think you will have found two counters to this a) no pub would ever choose to go non-smoking unless there is an across the board ban come here to paris, or even where I am in England, and find me a place where I could be even the least bit social and not be surrounded by smoke. Surely my civil liberties allow me to exit my house without having my health damaged by other people smoking. Or is it too much to ask for me to be able to go out to eat or have a drink and to think of myself? Smokers of course have more rights than me.
  14. They aren't going to make me sick now though are they? The point is that we aren't taking away people's rights to make their own decisions, but rather to make decisions that directly affect the lives of others. If you can honeslty say that you think eating a burger or having a smoke are on the same level then fair enough, but I don't think anyone, even the most hardened smoker, would. I've got to get back to work now though, exams coming up and I need to learn how to dodge the question for a bit longer.
  15. If you use actual arguments that I don't agree with but actually have a point I won't make a comment like that. For example, your comment on the way it could have an effect on the crowd makes sense, I don't agree, but at least it is valid. To say, this is stupid why don't we ban hot dogs, burgers and chips while we are at it as they aren't good for you either doesn't really improve the debate does it?
  16. That isn't the future. I think this is a move to ban a substance that doesn't only harm the user, which is what seperates it from some of the other mentions it. True, things like alcohol can lead to dui or alcohol induced violence but it isn't quite the same. To get all worked up about this saying we are going down a path where we won't be able to do this, that or the other is simply ridiculous and is a poor attempt at trying to counter some fairly well reasoned arguments through the use of non-sensical extremes. All I can say is that for all of you who are so interested in maintaining civil liberty then why can't I legally smoke marijuana? What happened to all of he opium dens?
  17. I do. I'm sure there will be the odd one who stops coming but not many. It could be argued that if we see a ban on smoking people will free up more of their disposable income and have more money to go to Rovers games. Swings and roundabouts really.
  18. Sad if you stop going to Rovers because you can't go 90 minutes without a smoke.
  19. What about my civil liberty to not run the risk of becoming sick by standing in an area? I think it is great that I'm getting that one back. Do what you want as long as it doesn't hurt me. Nowhere does it say you have the right to slowly damage the health of others and I'm sorry to say that in any European country it is impossible to avoid places where people smoke, a ban is the only thing that can change that. When I lived in the States American I had no trouble whatsoever avoiding smoke, maybe that is why you feel the way that you do American. Come here to Paris and try and find places for me to go. Now I don't mind it so much in bars, but if you are eating it is a horrible thing. A family friend was recently diagnosed with a type of lung cancer that can only be the result of smoking related damage, she has never smoked a cigarette in her life but is now fighting for her life having already had a lung removed and going through radiation therapy. Tell her about how important your right to smoke while standing next to her is.
  20. 4th Arsenal 67p 5th Blackburn 67p 6th Spurs 64p 7th Bolton 63p Hard to do without either being very biased or without being pessimistic. For example, I consider all of our games tricky, but then look at other clubs playing the same teamand think it is a pretty safe three points, that's what feelings do for you. There will be surprises though, didn't expect Boro to beat Bolton and I'm sure that won't be the last one I didn't see coming.
  21. No. I think we are moving towards a total ban on smoking but it has to be implemented in stages so that it doesn't come in one amazingly unpopular rush. People will still want to go to the bars and pubs, just as even though I don't like being in a room filled with smokers I still went to bars and pubs. The only difference is now I won't be having my health damaged by the action of others. People are much more likely to give up smoking as a result of this then they are to give up drinkings and going to the pub. You will certainly kill off the entire class of "social smokers".
  22. Unless they were going to impose it on certain ones and not others, which wouldn't have been fair, I doubt few would have chosen to become non-smoking.
  23. Yes, but most pubs either a) don't have the interest don't have the space and money in order to actually make a divide that was closed off and properly ventilated.
  24. 1) You take work where you can get it generally if you are looking for bar work. 2) True, but then no one said you can't wait until you go outside to have a smoke? Or that you can't just go and have your drink and smoke at home? Tell me why I have to allow someone to have their little comfort and increase their and my chances of death by having a smoke while I have a drink but they can't do us both a favour and not have a smoke while they have a drink. Why is their right the greater? It certainly isn't, when you consider the health effects of one of the rights versus that of the other.
  25. It looks more within our reach now then it did at the start of the day.
