I'm not sure if I missed something but as far as I could tell Robson gave them some grief about coming out of the tunnel several minutes late, which seems fair, and then things became heated on the touchline in a close game during which both teams did their fair share of dangerous tackels and spectacular dives, though Chelsea probably ended up winning on every front. Now all of that seems to be pretty standard football stuff and at the end of most matches you'll see managers put it to the side enough to at least be able to shake hands. His failure to do so says a lot about the man, how much he thinks of himself and the lack of respect he has for his fellow managers, opposition and the history of the English game.

Agree with you there T4E. I have a feeling though that we'll have the same feeling before all of our remaining games. So much to play for and so much to be lost if we don't get the results we need, made all the worse by the fact that they are very much achievable. I'm looking forward to the Liverpool and Chelsea games because at least in those matches the pressure will be off to a certain extent. I just really hope we don't let ourselves down tonight.

I think they have been mentioned several times. We'd all like to get rid of cars if we could, but it simply isn't possible at the minute. Hopefully we all use public transportation as much as possible and try to buy fuel efficient cars, but cars are a necessary evil at the moment, though I am sure everyone is in full support of the development of technology that could help reduce and if not eliminate such emissions. No point saying, well may as well because we have that. We can try to get rid of as many harmful elements of life as we possibly can, smoking is an unnecessary but incredibly dangerous one that we have the opportunity to eliminate relatively easily without any cost, though I'm sure a few addicts and tobacco producers would disagree.

Yes, but as many people have mentioned, most recently jan only two posts up, a football ground is open air and so it would be impossible from stopping the smoke from drifting. If they want to dedicate some closed off room somewhere in the ground to smoking then I have no problem with that.

Actually, if you had read all of my posts I think you will have found two counters to this a) no pub would ever choose to go non-smoking unless there is an across the board ban come here to paris, or even where I am in England, and find me a place where I could be even the least bit social and not be surrounded by smoke. Surely my civil liberties allow me to exit my house without having my health damaged by other people smoking. Or is it too much to ask for me to be able to go out to eat or have a drink and to think of myself? Smokers of course have more rights than me.

They aren't going to make me sick now though are they? The point is that we aren't taking away people's rights to make their own decisions, but rather to make decisions that directly affect the lives of others. If you can honeslty say that you think eating a burger or having a smoke are on the same level then fair enough, but I don't think anyone, even the most hardened smoker, would. I've got to get back to work now though, exams coming up and I need to learn how to dodge the question for a bit longer.

If you use actual arguments that I don't agree with but actually have a point I won't make a comment like that. For example, your comment on the way it could have an effect on the crowd makes sense, I don't agree, but at least it is valid. To say, this is stupid why don't we ban hot dogs, burgers and chips while we are at it as they aren't good for you either doesn't really improve the debate does it?

That isn't the future. I think this is a move to ban a substance that doesn't only harm the user, which is what seperates it from some of the other mentions it. True, things like alcohol can lead to dui or alcohol induced violence but it isn't quite the same. To get all worked up about this saying we are going down a path where we won't be able to do this, that or the other is simply ridiculous and is a poor attempt at trying to counter some fairly well reasoned arguments through the use of non-sensical extremes. All I can say is that for all of you who are so interested in maintaining civil liberty then why can't I legally smoke marijuana? What happened to all of he opium dens?

I do. I'm sure there will be the odd one who stops coming but not many. It could be argued that if we see a ban on smoking people will free up more of their disposable income and have more money to go to Rovers games. Swings and roundabouts really.

Sad if you stop going to Rovers because you can't go 90 minutes without a smoke.

What about my civil liberty to not run the risk of becoming sick by standing in an area? I think it is great that I'm getting that one back. Do what you want as long as it doesn't hurt me. Nowhere does it say you have the right to slowly damage the health of others and I'm sorry to say that in any European country it is impossible to avoid places where people smoke, a ban is the only thing that can change that. When I lived in the States American I had no trouble whatsoever avoiding smoke, maybe that is why you feel the way that you do American. Come here to Paris and try and find places for me to go. Now I don't mind it so much in bars, but if you are eating it is a horrible thing. A family friend was recently diagnosed with a type of lung cancer that can only be the result of smoking related damage, she has never smoked a cigarette in her life but is now fighting for her life having already had a lung removed and going through radiation therapy. Tell her about how important your right to smoke while standing next to her is.

No. I think we are moving towards a total ban on smoking but it has to be implemented in stages so that it doesn't come in one amazingly unpopular rush. People will still want to go to the bars and pubs, just as even though I don't like being in a room filled with smokers I still went to bars and pubs. The only difference is now I won't be having my health damaged by the action of others. People are much more likely to give up smoking as a result of this then they are to give up drinkings and going to the pub. You will certainly kill off the entire class of "social smokers".

Yes, but most pubs either a) don't have the interest don't have the space and money in order to actually make a divide that was closed off and properly ventilated.

1) You take work where you can get it generally if you are looking for bar work. 2) True, but then no one said you can't wait until you go outside to have a smoke? Or that you can't just go and have your drink and smoke at home? Tell me why I have to allow someone to have their little comfort and increase their and my chances of death by having a smoke while I have a drink but they can't do us both a favour and not have a smoke while they have a drink. Why is their right the greater? It certainly isn't, when you consider the health effects of one of the rights versus that of the other.
