[Archived] So Just Where Are All The Ex-rovers?

Recommended Posts

After reading the news that one of the final links to our 95 side that is still playing, Jeff Kenna, has signed for a year at Kidderminster Harriers, I got to thinking about our other ex-players.

Harriers complete Kenna swoop

When it comes to our ex-players I like to know how they are doing to see if we made a mistake letting them go or to hope they are having a crap career if I didn't like them, such as the pie-popping Bolton forward and the wee wedgie shyte who now captains Rangers. So...I decided we could do with a list of where all the ex-Rovers players and staff are because...well, because that's the type of person I am. :tu:

So here we go - are there any (and I'm sure there are plenty) that I have missed? :o

Birmingham City - David Dunn, Damien Johnson, Neil Danns, Alex Bruce, Martin Taylor. Soon to officially be rebranded as 'Birmingham - Blackburn's waste bin for four proud years and flippin' well proud of it too!'

Blackpool - Ciaran Donnelly, Simon Grayson. Tripe as a player, surely can't be as bad as a manager.

Bolton Wanderers - Kevin Davies. Worse for us than Grabbi...that takes some beating.

Burnley - Alan Mahon. Their flair player. Our reject. "The gap is closing! I says that gap is closing I tell thee!"

Bury - John Fitzgerald.

Charlton Athletic - Marcus Bent.

Coventry City - David Mcnamee.

Crystal Palce - Jay Bothroyd.

Finland national side - Roy Hodgson (manager).

Fulham - Ian Pearce.

Everton - James Beattie, Lee Carsley.

Grimsby Town - Gary Croft, Gary Harkins.

Kidderminster Harriers - Jeff Kenna

Kilmarnock - Gordon Greer.

Leicester City - Nils-Eric Johansson.

Liverpool - Florent Sinama-Pongolle, Craig Bellamy...he was great for us...we love him...he lied to us...we hate him...repeat continuously.

Lyn FC (Oslo) - Henning Berg (manager)

Luton Town - Mike Newell (manager).

Manchester City - Paul Dickov, Andy Cole.

Middlesbrough - Brett Emerton*

Newcastle United - Damien Duff, Alan Shearer (as coach/Bobby Charlton figure/whatever)

Norwich City - Peter Thorne

Nottingham Forest - John Curtis

Portsmouth - David Thompson. Their...ahem...BIG MONEY signing of the summer...so far.

Preston North End - Callum Davidson.

Rangers - Barry Ferguson.

Sheffield United - Keith Gillespie, Alan Wright, Craig Short. A new one-year contract for one last crack at the Premiership has been offered, not sure if he has accepted.

Sheffield Wednesday - Burton O'Brien.

Stuttgart VfB - Markus Babbel. Don't like him either.

Sunderland - Jonathan Stead.

Sydney FC - Dwight Yorke.

West Ham United - Christian Dailly.

Wigan Athletic - John Filan.

Currently waiting around like a tart on a street corner swinging their bags hoping to picked up are...

ON FREES - Sven Goran Eriksson (well, he did sign a contract for us even if he didn't come?!?),Chris Sutton, Matt Jansen, Vratislav Gresko, Lorenzo Amoruso, Stephane Henchoz.

NOT A CLUE - The whereabouts of Grabbi, Dino Baggio, De Pedro, Fettis, Diawara, Martin Andresen, Ashley Ward, Blake etc...even I don't have enough time to waste googling every single ex-player we had!

I'll edit in any I have missed to have something to check for those who wish to find an ex-player.

* - Not actually happened. This is known as 'wishful thinking'.

NOT A CLUE - The whereabouts of Grabbi

Grabbi is at Genoa in Serie C/1A according to wikipedia, or he was last season apparently. That site reckons they got promoted to Serie B though although he was thinking of retiring due to his "physical condition" (the mind boggles, he's not lost his pace has he?)

However, looking at his record at Lucchese it's easy to see why we paid all that money for him!

GRAEME LE SAUX: Again working with the Media and usually with BBC. Crap pundit IMO.

STUART RIPLEY: Retired in 2002. Returned to academia, reading a BA/BSC honours degree in Law and French at the University of Central Lancashire. Jason is currently on a course to finish his coaching badges and he will then move to Leicester City as a coach.

Nathan Blake is currently on trial at Stoke although he picked up a hamstring injury recently and missed 2 pre season matches.

Ashley is property developer on 'tmoors

Sherwood has just pioneered a new magazine for professional eyes only along with Gary Flitcroft, it specialises in high quality gear and is not available to the general public.

Jansen is playing for New York, isn't he?

I don't think he got a contract. I didn't hear anything. Plus Mo Johnston, the manager who took him on trial, got fired and replaced by clueless Bruce Arena.

EDIT: Ex-scholarship/YTS player David Schofield is plying his trade for the Harrisburg City Islanders in the USL Divison 2 (American 3rd division sort of)

:D:wstu:

Get ready for the protests. :D

I can't say I've watched more than 5 minutes of any REdBull/MetroStar match

--but from the little sample I didn't hear nary a reference to Mattie Jansen.

I would imagine that when the new regime blew in they binned all the plans.

cheers

That part of the post sums up the state of American Football at this present time.

I'll not bother with this one. It's not as if we have any room talk; our team of "world class" stars limped to a quarter final exit, the powers that be appointed the man they didn't want for the England job, and Wembley Stadium is currently aeons late. It makes me cry, it really does.

Wembley is a money issue caused by soime clown giving a contract to an Australian firm.

Sven simply was mistaken if he ever thought he could win the World Cup with the squad he picked and TFFT he didnt take over at Ewood.

USA v England ? only one winner and aint the Yankee football wannabees.

Yes we had a poor World Cup but not half as bad as the USA.

The remark wasnt a dig more of an observation. Big fat Bruce doesnt know what he is doing like the people in the background of the USA football system.

And in any case, back over here, I would rather have our failures than Americas

I agree wholehearedly that Arena has no idea. As far as US Soccer goes they are indeed stuck with underdeveloped coaches, an indifferent media, and a lack of a youth set up. Our failures in my eyes are much greater. England is expected to win every tournament they enter and haven't for 40+ years now. Our youth set up is going well but we still don't have it working properly as our players still get rumbled in the big games for being technically deficient. I get so tired of defending England. What can I say to defend us? Americans can say "it's not our sport". We can't. Our overinflated expectations ruin us every time. It won't be as apparent to you as you live in England where the majority feel the same way but I get it every day.

Does this need a separate topic? "World Football: compare and discuss"

Where is Left foot Lee Richardson these days?
