[Archived] Emerton Blow For Rovers

Recommended Posts

He had a great game on the left wing against Liverpool and more specifically, Josemi. But that was more a flash in the pan.

He's here to stay so let's just hope that he undergoes the kind of transformation that we saw in ... erm .... Keith Gillespie or Andy Todd????! I'm sure there's parallels there somewhere, although I can't see them.

Brett can be summed up as the most frustrating player at the club.

He's got the physical attributes to be a great player. Height, physique, football talent and pace.

He's had the opportunity, being consistently picked by Souness even though he turned in performances that were by and large, average at best. He's not been so favoured by Hughes but even when the opportunities have presented themselves he hasn't turned in the level of performance that would make him an automatic choice for the team.

Why are the majority of fans so negative. It's because he's wasting his talent and therefore our time.

Playing wide right he should be consistently taking on the fullback. getting to the bye-line and supplying a stream of crosses for forwards to capitalise on. Each and every time he gets the chance he chooses to cut inside.

Playing right midfield or full-back he never gives the impression that he is able to stop the opposition going past him. He can't tackle but does occasionally dangle a foot in the direction of the ball that's under the control of an opponent. If Bert at full back is a serious proposition then all I can say is bring back Matteo because at least he can defend ( and come to think of it he will probably be better going forward as well)

A "Bert" with close control, going past defenders and supplying crosses to Roberts, McCarthy or even Kuqi - In my dreams

but brett, for (Please don't use that word again) sake lad, take them on!!

I noticed during the NZ game that Bowen wanted Reid (who played on the right) not to take the def on but to cross the ball from the right as early as possible.

Also Emerton was brought in not as a carbon copy of Duff (for the right) but as someone who could balance the midfield with Duff having the freedom to take on players.

Simple economics lads.

Boro bid £3m, bye bye Bert

Boro bid £800K, bye bye Boro

Funny, I see that as £800k plus whatever Burt was making this year (before his new contract, which is almost certainly a pay rise) down the drain. He's simply not good enough. I was very dissapointed with this move by Hughes - I'm sure there's an academy player (or a platoon of them) that could fill his role for a fraction of the cost, and who knows, they might impress the coaching staff in the process.

Put the tea lady in, she would be better. Seriously, would he even do well in the championship?

Scored an absolute belter last night. Pedersen couldn't have done it better. Free kick out wide, 20 ish yards out, top corner, keeper rooted.

I've had to eat yards of humble pie this year, he's been one of our better players, in fact, until MGP got his form back he was probably the most consistant, in fact, him & Bentley on the right are dynamite.

(There's a song in there somewhere)

I remember when he signed Friedel talking him up as one of the best free kick takers he had ever faced and that he could get Beckhamesque movement on the ball, but he never seems to take them for us.

Won't get to now either with Pedersen looking like he could be the premier free kick specialist in the league at the moment.

Strange that he didn't take them pre-ped though. Neither Steven Reid nor Amoruso were particularly brilliant.

Robbie Savage had a monopoly on any free kicks requiring a right foot. Strange as I've never thought he was that effective with them. Bentley has probably taken over this role with Savage's broken leg. That's a shame as Emerton looks like he could be useful from set pieces.

i don't think nobody has mentioned tugay, surely her must be a contender too? :brfc:

Maybe you haven't noticed, but he rarely takes dead-ball kicks in the opposition's half, and only takes quick short free kicks in our half.

He prefers the ball when it's moving.

So pay more attention in the future and stop posting sillyness.
