I think the idea is to find a young-ish right back who is a genuine right back. Emerton has improved in the position and Ooijer can defende but is not comfortable going forward. If you want to improve in that area you would bring in a specialist. I know it is an option.

There are also a lot of midfielders in the squad, but the Tugay issue will have to be addressed some day. The old wizard can't go on forever.

And you can never have too many good players...

On Radio Lancs today MH said that Emerton had returned from the Asia cup with an eye problem that is currently being treated, which meant he could not be in contention for Saturday's match, but he was hoping to be involved for Thursday's.

Oh yes you can...! West Ham and a pair of Argentinians spring to mind. :rover:

Watch Spurs this season. Jol's greed with signing players that are not strictly necessary will hamper rather than help. If a squad does not have a hierarchy, it is a recipe for dissatisfaction and flagging morale. Furthermore, it can pressurise the manager into rotating his squad excessively just to keep talented but under-used players happy, having bad consequences results-wise.

From what little I have seen of Tugay up to now he appears well off the pace. Odd that nobody else has mentioned his apparent lack of form.

Morten Gamst Pedersen is an absolute class player. Not just his set pieces, he tracks back & tackles & has a cracking shot on him. Can't believe how anyone would want him gone. He is indispensable to our side.

absolutely spot on.

on him going to arsenal, there's been rumours around for the last 4 wks or so, i thought them too ridiculous to post.

personally, i'm unsure if wenger wants him. 1 thing's for sure, he wont go for 7M (17-20M is his value, 27M if west ham want him!

Carlisle Manager Sacked

Interesting that they've sacked their manager just after he spent the club record on Joe Garner. Apologies if this has already been posted.

He did a good job stepping into Simpson's shoes and keeping up the development. This could be bad news for Joe, depending who the new boss is. Shame but i guess that's football and Carlisle have a decent amount of cash to spend now and demand things they wouldn't have before.

can i just say, if gujohnson dropped his wage price, would blackburn be interested in him???

the only club i see willing to pay 100k a week to gudjohnson is west ham because they are desperate...

we should go for flamini...theres a rumour about bendter and flamini plus cash for pedersen, dont sell pedersen, but sign flamini..

so we are looking for a young right back and a centre mid then??? if so thats good news, positions i feel we need...

Tromsø should probably have a percentage of the transfer fee as well. That will push the value higher then 7M. MGP is also a player that alone can give us the points needed to get into europe next season. That is also worth several million in profit to Rovers.

technically they havnt signed Garner yet - I understand he was on loan on Saturday. How the contractual situation has panned out Im not privy to though.

Joe Garner's deal is permanent, the loan part was just to get him cleared for Saturday. No going back.

Strange sacking. Neil McDonald has just broken the club's transfer record and was trying to sign another player over the weekend...then he goes.

More to this than meets the eye.

Bendtner is a much better prospect than Flamini... dont rate Flamini that much... always seems very lightweight to me. Bendtner can play upfront, centre mid and left-wing.

bendter is a good prospect, but i think a centre midfielder is needed more then another striker...id love flamini here, good young player..

Id love to welcome flamini here, he is a great player and possably a tugay sucessor.

Id probably cry if MGP went.

I think Flamini is very possible if Wenger is looking to ship him out. We have strong Arsenal connections in the coaching staff, Bentley is here also, and we would have I think enough money for the transfer fee.

The question in Hughes' mind would be:

a) Does Flamini have the right attitude for Rovers?

B) How much will he cost (I wouldn't pay more than 3-4m)?

c) What would singing him mean for our current squad? (Probably that Tugay would only get a game very rarely. Dunn and Moko would be very marginalised I think)

He is a quality player and, if he is willing to do the donkey work, what we need in the deep midfield role. He would also provide cover at full back.

I have a sneaking feeling we might put in a bid. Just seems the sort of player to interest Sparky - young, talented, class.

Nicko,

Your fellow Caledonian football scribe Kevin McCarra was on TalkSh1 te this aft. Dismissive of us as usual and harked back to the semi v Arsenal (although did concede that we play with more "polish" now).

Is he a mate of yours?

Hope not as he was a right tool.

On that note...it was nice to see Paul Jewell on Goals on Sunday saying how we only have the 'dirty' tag because we had the nerve to be competitive against Chelsea. He was saying that we are no more dirty than anyone else is, we just like to compete, but most of all we have a talented squad and can play.

It was nice to hear for a change.

No friend of mine.

Odd that the London press are locked in this timewarp.

Rovers were pretty grim two seasons back, but there was a reason for that.

Sadly there are many who have not even seen your team since.

I can see why you reckon the press are against you.

Daft comment for anyone to make especially after the first weekend.

I think there is a genuine chance for a team to break into the top four this season - and it aint those Tottenham posers.
