Huddlestone would be a great signing but I just don't believe Spurs would sell him. Would think Pedersen would have to be involved in any deal, but without us having an experienced replacement (for MGP), I can't see it.

No of course not, 'cos we've NEVER sold our only reconised left winger for silly money then not been able to replace him before the end of the transfer window before, have we?????

That said, that WAS a great player, not MGP.

If Huddlestone did come to Rovers, would that make you think that Reidy's days are numbered?Wouldn't you consider them to be of a similar type?

Huddlestone isn't the sort of energetic, box-to-box player that Reid is. He'd probably be one of the nearest things we could find to a Tugay replacement. Excellent range of passing and quality on the ball, very mobile too for such a big lad.

He'd be an excellent signing but I can't see why Spurs would sell.

Leicesters on loan Sunderland player Clive Clarke collapsed tonight at half time in the game between Nott Forest - Leicester? Any news? Whats happening? Is it players using efedrine and getting heart attacks? I know the pressure is high but it seems to be alot of heart problems at this time of the year. I really do hope that its OK with Clarke! Keep faith!

Just heard guys, Huddlestone deal is on.

I hope your right, he is pure quality!

NUGENT for sale at pompy just been on ssnews with Harry indicating the price has to be right

Roberts out £4m, Nugent in £5m. Wouldn't be bad business at all.

Nicko, whats the story with Nugent? Are Pompey really looking to move him out already?

Yes, as revealed and denied last week.

Redknapp pushing him out because he wants the money to buy Crouch.

Derby are keen, but there is a surprise bidder...and it is not yourselves. Need to confirm it before I can write it.

Checking Huddlestone too. That's a surprise one, but I respect the quality of the tip on it.

nugent-no we dont want him, he has looked really out of his depth in this league, he isnt better then derbyshire, nugent is a no go for me...

i cant see huddlestone leaving spurs, id be really shocked if he joined us, shocked as in happy..but i just cant see it...and yeh if we got him, id see him more of a replacement for tugay...

can i just ask , how do you know the huddlestone deal is on??????

I don't want us to bring in Huddlestone. For a start we have Mokoena, Savage and Tugay who can all play in front of the defence along with Dunn and Reid (when he gets back) going forward. Who do we sell? We are playing well and Savage and Dunn together in the middle is working! I sincerely hope this doesn't result in Dunn playing more from the bench.

Further to this, I just don't rate Huddlestone that highly. He is big and sluggish and just about the worst set piece taker I've ever seen. I just feel that he is hugely over-rated. I'd much rather have Savage, Tugay or Mokoena right now and it would leave us extra money to play with in January when we pick up injuries.

Not interested in Nugent, he's certainly no better than Derbyshire and may well turn out to be no where near as good. Huddlestone is another story all together, as somebody else said , he's a good candidate for the Tugay replacement role.

The only thing I can't understand is why would Spurs want to sell ? Although I'm not Pedersen's most fervent admirer I wouldn't want to swap the two unless the deal was really in our favour from a financial point of view, we would be left with no time to get a replacement. ( Unless we steal Petrov from City ! )

I like the looks of Huddlestone, although I haven't seen much of him. In terms of a deal for pedersen with huddlestone and money coming the other way, the only way I'd like it is if we had someone lined up who Hughes really, really liked. If not then it isn't worth the risk. We've built our side around having two good wide players, I don't think Peter is ready to step in and do that, although you never know, so we'd need another top quality left midfielder and there aren't many out there.

I'd put my house on MGP staying put. Hughes could have sold him to a host of clubs in the Premier Legaue and all over Europe during the summer. Why sell him now with four days until the end of the transfer window? Hughes isn't daft - even if MGP wanted to leave, Hughes wouldn't sell him without a quality replacement having already been brought in and we've heard nothing.

Having read that excellent article in the Guardian about Spurs, logic doesn't apply in so far as anything happens down at White Hart Lane at the moment. Jol clearly is not in charge of transfers.

If Huddlestone is a serious move by Rovers, I would see this as a longer term project as the guy looks seriously over weight. It could be Dunn-esque in that appearances are deceptive.

However, he is the closest thing to a Tugay replacement I've heard bandied around and if the move for him is funded by selling Roberts it could be another example of Hughes' foresight.

With regards to Roberts' disposability, depends on how Rigters and Gally are going in training- if they are looking like genuine contenders then we have choice of two forwards from six at the moment.

Having to select two from five forwards (Benni, Roque, Matty, Rigters, Gally) and four from eight midfielders (MGP, Dunn, Reid, Sav, Axe, Huddlestone, Tugay, Bentley) looks slightly more balanced than the current squad set-up.

I would guess nothing will come of these moves in the end. In terms of the press picking up on anything, it looks like Villa could have a pre-window closing splash. Spending a total of £15m on Routledge and Defoe looks better value than most of their other expenditure this summer.

Isn't there a rule stipulating that a player cannot play for two teams within a certain amount of time? Would that not apply to Nugent? I'm actually very interested.

I think the rule is no player can play for more than two teams in any given season, so Nugent is ok to move as he's only played for Pompey so far.
