Just a snippet on Reidy. I believe he is about two or three weeks from a run-out in the reserves.

So the 'hamstring' problem he had on top of the back and knee injuries seems to be slowing him down a bit.

When you have been out as long as the lad has been then it is a long way back.

It sure is, let me tell you. I've just come back to playing semi-competitive games (football team trials at uni) after 2 years out with toe and ankle injuries. The first trial had me barely able to walk for two days, and I'm currently a shadow of my former self.

About the Borges training here thing...this kind of thing does happen now and again, where a first teamer at a small club will trial here with us. I expect it's because Saprissa will be hoping that, since we're a Premiership team, they've a chance to cash in here. Even as Costa Rica's top team they must be way way way below our financial level.

Before you ask...

I haven't heard the David Bentley for Spain rumour in The Sun and I'm not sure that I believe it.

There is an decent little tale about a young player Rovers want to sign in the Sunday People [hopefully].

And perhaps another item or two of interest.

Was it in? If so, who/what was it? ...Now back at uni, I cant afford newspapers!

Can't see Bentley to Spain being true... the guy who wrote it said Valencia or Athletico Madrid... so that insists he doesnt know where and also said Rovers would want about £10 mill.... b*ll*cks! he's worth WAAAAY more than that in todays market!

Why not? If the boo boys are doing his head in and he's not man enough to deal with it then he could well want to bail. Hoping he is and doesn't.

I understand Benni McCarthy was at Brockhall yesterday morning - and a long way from Sunderland.

The reason behind this and the significance of this have to be interesting.

A bold selection by the manager - I didn't see the Savage axeing coming - and the right result.

Got to say I think old Sparky takes a great deal of credit for those three points. The team needed a shake-up and he took no prisoners.

Nicko, I couldn't find reference to your story on the internet edition of the People. Would you care to reveal it now?

Rovers have a Canadian kid called David Hoilett under their wing but cannot play him because of work permit problems.

He may be farmed out to Germany until he wins a cap or two.

By all accounts - from the best youth experts around - he is worth the effort.

It seems a shame that British clubs cannot take on top kids for work permit reasons while their European counterparts can.

There is also an update on Dan Williams and his merry men in the People. I won't hit sales by revealing what it says. The newsagents are still open...over here anyway.

He's meant to be the best player the academy has had on their books for a very, very long while. Amazingly skilful... (But keep it quiet)

I assume, because he's in Germany, the same work permit problems prevent him for playing for Cercle Brugge.

At the Pompey game he went straight down the tunnel to recieve treatment for a back problem, so perhaps thats why he was missing Nicko.

I think it is his overall fitness that may be the issue just now. He has looked jaded since the South Africa game.

The 'bad back' story may be a cover story.

But you can call me Mister Suspicious if you like... ;)

Ok Mister Suspicious, Do you think we will beat Larissa? will Benni play?

I think you can definitely score one against Larissa and probably two.

But I worry that they might get one - and I don't see you banging in four in those circumstances.

It will be a bumpy ride, but I have a funny feeling you will get through. Possibly after extra-time.

I don't think Benni will start, it wouldn't be fair to Roque and Matt Derbyshire. But if his back is better [?] he would be an ideal sub.

the players will be up for the game

were at home...samba is back..and i think our set pieces could prove vital in this game..if we can get an early goal i think we can win...

i think maybe we should keep the same formation as we have done since birmingham and sunderland-its nice to have hard working strikers upfront...mcarthy should be on the bench tho...

Teamtalk

Hughes said: "I made the decision to leave Benni back at the training ground just to do extra work.

"I just feel his form at the moment is not quite at the level it was, so he is doing a lot of one-to-one stuff and that will continue next week.

"He will be better for that and be ready to make the impact he made last year."

Good for him. Does that remind you of anyone?

One step closer to OT.

Arsenal and Tottenham are continuing to keep Blackburn Rovers midfielder Morten Gamst Pedersen on their collective radars (various). The Norwegian star has had a poor season and started yesterday's match at Sunderland on the bench. It seemed during the summer that Mark Hughes was thwarting approaches for 26-year-old Pedersen; now it appears that the Welshman may be erring towards letting the player go.

Rovers have started the season well but Pedersen himself hasn’t had the best of starts and should a decent offer arise in January I think it is likely he may be free to leave. The usually consistent midfielder could do a good job for either north London side and a fee of around £10m would probably secure his signature. His creative talent would be welcomed, especially at White Hart Lane, where goal-scoring midfielders are somewhat lacking. Watch this space.

I cannot see how having someone on the bench can be twisted to thinking about selling a player by the media.

By that logic Rafa would have most of the Liverpool squad transfer listed !

leroy lita could be put up for sale by reading in january...i have a feeling jason roberts will leave in january so maybe going for someone quite similar would be good...lita is younger-still needs to work on his finishing, but can be a real handful..

We've been linked with him in the past... he's also good mates with Dave Bentley.

I was upset in the summer when City got Petrov, and I'm even more so now after seeing the impact he's having.

Incredibly fast, skillful, scores goals and delivers great crosses...he's a perfect winger. What was it City paid? About £4.5 million if I remember correctly. If only we'd have flogged Pedersen in the summer and got him as a replacement.

The papers are at it already, sending our manager to Spurs and our players to wherever they feel like. What is it that we do wrong? Nobody's suggesting O'Neill's going to leave Villa or that other teams are going to sell their better players just because the manager's left them out for a few games. We all know realistically that we will lose manager and players eventually but can't they leave us alone for at least a few weeks between transfer windows?

Petrov played seven games so far, he's been good in about two games which also are the only two he scored in. And City plays a 451 which means he should be a lot higher up the field then Gamst. Gamst is class but out of form.
