So a Pakistani based group may be interested then? I would look through previous posts but this page suggests that the last few pages would read more like the 20 or so Muslim threads on the non-football forum.

Couldn't give a crap where someone is from as long as they have the clubs long term interests at heart. And they don't sack Mark Hughes.

Best point yet.

Who knows? He might not stay around long enough to be sacked.

Sorry if I'm draging this off topic again but I'm going to have to defend myself there and agree with USA Blue that your comparison is a completely false one.

If your "centre half" had never expressed any interest in football before, let alone ever previously played in that position, you'd be extremely sceptical about sticking him straight into the first team wouldn't you?

Regardless of where he came from or his nationality!

In that case we'd better wait until we know about this Pakistani consortium eh?

And wasn't that pretty much Rev's jist in the first place, it really depends on how you want to take Rev's statement, one which rings true if you take it at face value. Sadly in your swift effort to drag it into a racist comment you've missed it.

More so it backs my earlier point.

SSN reporting that Southampton to be taken over by an Investment consortium. No names given.

Will be interesting to see who they are!

I think you will find it is Ray Ranson and his men.

I do hope Guided Missile is pleased.

Their bid is 40p a share - no idea if they will get it. Probably not.

As for the Pakistanis...I am still waiting on more info.

Any news on the Bolton job Nicko?

Not sure if this is correct but................

VC Bet report a hefty amount of cash for Gary Megson to become the next manager of Bolton and it’s forced the firm to suspend the betting.

"Within the space of half an hour we had a serious run of money on Megson, and we had to take evasive action," confirmed VC spokesman Neal Wilkins.

"Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric is adamant that he’ll refuse permission for Bolton to speak to Megson, but this sort of money speaks for itself."

The comment on Talksport news was that Southampton are to sell 55% of the club to a "British investment goup".

Nicko, you said the offer was 40p per share, am I right in thinking Southampton are members of the AIM and what were Southampton shares trading at prior to this?

Southampton's shares - and who owns them - is such a complicated subject that I would have to pass on that...I don't have a straight answer.

However Ranson told a pal of mine last week that he was buying it, another source told me what his game plan was and a third informed me today that he was paying 40p a share.

I am going to have to go back to school and take economics seriously next time...

The bottom line is that Southampton's parent company seem keen on the idea and it may eventually lead to more investment.

If I was George Burley I would be a bit twitchy.

Southampton statement to the Stock Exchange read: "The board is delighted to announce that it has agreed in principle to proceed with indicative proposals from a major UK-based investment company (the 'investor') under which, subject to shareholder approval, the investor will become the majority shareholder in Southampton Leisure Holdings Plc (the 'company') with a total shareholding of not less than 55% of the company.

"The investor proposes to become the majority shareholder by injecting a substantial sum directly into the company by means of a placing of new shares and to commit additional funds in order to acquire a tranche of pre-existing equity from current shareholders by means of a partial tender offer.

"The proposed placing of new shares would be at a discount to the current share price and conditional on the grant of a Rule 9 waiver by the Takeover Panel and approval of that waiver by independent shareholders, which would otherwise require the investor to make a takeover offer for the company's existing share capital.

"The investor has stated that the above proposals represent the beginning of a proposed long-term commitment on its part as a strong and supportive shareholder whose interests would be closely aligned with those of current shareholders and supporters of Southampton Football Club (the 'club') and other stakeholders in the company.

"In particular, the investor has indicated it will undertake a review of the club's financial structure. In addition to the significant equity investment proposed, the investor has confirmed that it has the financial capacity and intention to support the ongoing development of the Club and its youth academy and to strengthen its first team squad and prospects of promotion into the Barclays Premier League.

"The proposed investment is subject to, inter alia, financial and other due diligence and there is therefore no certainty that it will proceed in the above or indeed any other form. Further announcements will be made as necessary."

I THINK YOU WILL FIND THEY HAVE A RIGHTS ISSUE SHORTLY TO RAISE MORE MONEY...

PS - Somebody tell that Missile chap that I broke the Ranson story last week. I quite like winding him up. Or couldn't you tell.

Not quite.

There'll be an immediate upsurge in results as the novelty of an apparently articulate and charismatic (aka soundbite spinning air-head) manager inspires the relatively low-profile players.

And then they prepare for the CHampionship.

BTW: Gary Megson headhunted before Souey. How the 'mighty' have fallen. Megson is English football's answer to Egil Olsen, without the record as an international manager - What does that make Souey? I wonder if Phil Gartside considered Sir Les Reed before turning to Mr Souness.

Souness talking to Bolton according to R5 Live. Looks like they're preparing for life in the Championship.

:brfc:

Wrong.

Megson is still first choice.

You don't get much for your licence fee these days, just people who read the wrong newspapers.

This would be the same Graeme Souness who took you out of a coma, won you promotion, a trophy and two shots at Europe?

Wondered if I had him confused with someone else.

Tell me another manager who won a trophy at a similar-sized club?

In living memory.

Tell me another manager who's team faced a very weak Sheffield Wednesday in the semi-finals.

Come on rover6, cut the crap. We also beat Arsenal 4-0 in the quarters and Spurs in the final.

Souness was brilliant for us for the first 3 years. Would you have preferred us to stick with Brian Kidd??? Yes it all went downhill quite sharply towards the end, but do you really think we would be where we are now if not for him?
