The big national interest came about simply because there had been no regular clashes. The passion and pride and aggro fueled in the 70's came from seperation and the dingles domination over us, they having the upper hand as we were a couple of divisions apart. Regular games would see that edge lost some. You see it in the gates from back then, the first games drew over 20K at each locale, as we met more and more the gates dwindled if I am not mistaken. Wasn't the last time we met before they started their slide watched by only 13K at Ewood. A mere 7 years on from 76

True but regular meetings in the Premier League with its media and TV hype would be a different matter.

I'm with the disbelievers - Burnley back in the big time with us would be wonderful.

And yes, I do have the regulation set of fingers and toes.

I would save my money on that market. Birmingham have been trying for other people, so Eric Black is not their favourite - and he has told Wigan he is coming.

Boothroyd has had some backing in the past 24 hours on skybet. He has come down from 50/1 to 12/1.

Black's odds are shortening by the minute, it can only be because brum have no other leads and gold has said he wants to keep him if possible.

Is Billy Davies set to remain at derby for the rest of the season or do you think he would be tempted by a move to Birmingham?

Spot on with the england info btw. Great call. I am going to visit our local bookie and see what odds i can get on coyle to burnley, then stick my house on it lol!

I think Boothroyd is happy where he is. You are right about Black being backed for those reasons. And Wee Billy likes a drama, so you never know. In his ideal world he would get a pay-off at Derby and take over Birmingham. It's not impossible.

I have to disagree, even the BIG derbies the Manchester clubs, the Liverpool clubs and most of the London clubs and you can throw in Villa and Brum are not THAT hyped anymore. The biggest hype was when Brum and City had just returned to the big time, it's waned since then same as the others. Perhaps it's different being there but from here the BIG Derbies just don't seem that big anymore. Why, familiarity, IMHO, and yes we get lot's of coverage here via SSN etc. Perhaps it's just me but it seems there used to be a real anticipation about the games not now. The Geordies and Mackems this season perhaps the exception, oh but wait the Mackems have just returned too.

Hoping Boothroyd stays at Watford, sort of want him for when Hughes leaves us.

Just seen a quote on SSN saying he wants to sign 6 players in january. So if he doesn't get the funds he expects then there could be trouble? Also with brum having a hefty pay out from Bruce they could buy his contract.

Maybe clutching at straws but there are very few names on the oddschecker list that could/would realistically take the job. One of my brummie mates was quite happy when i mentioned Coleman but stuggled to think of many managers he would actually want.

Although if the Brum board are reading I'd go for Trevor Francis or Souness lol! :rover:

Holloway has resigned at Plymouth so it looks like he has got the Leicester job. Would be a bit different seeing Ollie in the Premiership- Leicester are probably a better bet to come through the pack of coca colas this season than the dingles are.

Sturrock to go back to Plymouth for old times and rover6's sake?

Going back to a few comments Nicko has said recently, about room opening up for trialists in the reserves....

I wouldn't forget about the link to Borges from Saprissa yet. That UNCAF club championship finals are played Nov 28 and Dec 5. So mid Dec. he might geet freed up to come for a trial.

Any news on the "unforeseen circumstances" holding up the Bruce to Wigan move?

Just been to Wigan press conference. Not.

Oh dear, what a shambles. I think Steve Bruce has to take the blame for this one as you will find out later.

I really can't go into detail as it is a good story for the paper in the morning, but it is quite a situation.

OK folks, it's speculation time!

Carson Yeung has agreed with the rest of the board that he should be offered a new contract, and Bruce is now having second thoughts about leaving.

or

He ran out of Petrol en route to the JJB, and David Gold refused to give him a lift in his helicopter

More to the point - should we be backing someone else for the Wigan job now?

Wasn't Brucey expecting a pay-off but instead BIG CLUB asked him to buy himself out of his contract with them. Bruce had sort of assumed that the compo arrangement between Whelan and Sullivan absolved him from resolving his own contractual issues and that magically some of the £3m would land in his pocket. So Bruce has offered to turn up for work at Brum tomorrow.

No doubt there is a serious under-tow from the scrap over Black going on as well.

BIG CLUB are always good entertainment value in these sorts of things. Only Steve Bruce could have so signally have failed to have understood the nature of the folks he was working for after six years!

There could be some sensational news out of Birmingham City coming up tonight...

To all those who are betting on their next boss...[a] hold your cash and forget any advice of mine to ignore Eric Black for the job.

All will be revealed later.

I will come out with the details about 10.30, once the papers are out. It is quite a twist behind the scenes.
