Billy Davies did an incredible job at Derby just like he did at PNE.

We are talking about a club where the recent past ownership are all facing football-related charges, a new ownership that just wants rid and a club heade for the third division if ever there was one when Davies went there.

Firing 10 members of staff in one day says all you need to know about the sinking ship Pride Park today.

Any Manager with a reputation to protect and a career to build is going to avoid that one. Going for an up and coming younger manager who is unlikely to get a shot at the Prem otherwise is probably their only hope- I saw Phil Brown on that list...

I hope Billy Davies doesn't go to Brum. He's too good for that lot. He'd be a cracking Scottish manager if Eck takes the porn pound though.

I'm very surprised that McLaren isn't being more strongly linked.....

The timing of it would point to that.

I feel sorry for Davies, he was ahead of plan when they got to the Premiership and didn't stand much chance this year, im sure he would get them back up next season with a healthy budget from the year in the Premiership.

I watched the game on Saturday and on another day they would of got a point, or even 3. They had some chances and the ref had a stinker.

David Jones looked quite good in central midfield, good vision and passes, could be one we should keep an eye on.

Has anyone got a link to the odds on skybet? I can't find them on the site?

Skybet, not sure it'll work but if not it's under football, speciality markets, manager specials. Then it's the bottom market.

Edit: Damn Ewood you just got there before me B) I think your right about Davies being unlucky. To have a 3 year plan to reach the top flight and make it in the first year isn't great. The board should have had more patience with him.

Phil Brown's already been binned by Derby once, must have slim to no chance of getting the job again.

Probably rubbish but on those same derby forums some guy reckons he put £2k on Ince in 36 different bookies and got the opening odds of around 16/1, before they collapsed to evens. He has "insider knowledge" :xmas:

Lose at home to Chesterfield with the most expensive squad in the division, then pick up a job in the premiership.

Seems like a logical progression to me.

Just like McClaren following Sven  or Souness getting the Newcastle job.... Chairmen do weird things at times but Ince has a good playing history, not an awful managerial record, plus only 4 letters to print on the shirt at the unveiling ;)

Is Eranio a manager? According to Wiki he dropped off the face of the earth after 2001.

Don't think Ince has done at all badly as a manager. He kept Macclesfield up from a very precarious position when he started and is currently sitting top of league 2 with MK Dons. Whether he has enough experience to be ok in a premiership job is debatable though.

It will only be a premiership job for another 24 games :!:

May not be a bad learning curve for an inexperienced boss who can then gain division 1 experience as well.

The only man who could have kept them up, has just got another job. The god that is Nicko's hero - Owen Coyle

I'm tempted to have a flutter on McClaren, simply because of the timing of the dismissal...plus he's probably the best qualified candidate oddly enough, certainly at club level anyway. Didn't he move to Old Trafford from Derby as well, or am I dreaming that?

Edit: I'm always puzzled as to why Gary Johnson is never linked with Premiership clubs. He worked minor miracles at Yeovil, and has taken Bristol City from being an under-achieving League One side to a play-off position in the Championship. He always seems to get his teams playing decent football as well, and seems to be quite shrewd in the transfer market. Is there any particular reason he's never been fancied by bigger clubs Nicko?

I'd agree but for the fact that england fans currently hate the man and would you really want him as your manager? 16/1 on bet365 and paddy power.

Also Mr Johnson is 50/1 with blue square if you fancy a punt on him

Edit: Nicko, Mr Mcleish is now heavy odds on for burm job and eric black has drifted out to as much as 23/2.

Been otherwise involved for the past few hours...

DERBY COUNTY.

I think you can discount McClaren. Adam Pearson is looking for an up-and-coming type from what I hear. But he has a track record for going round the houses before he decides on a manager.

I will name the two names that I have heard later. It seems both have had an airing already. There is an obvious third option but he has had no contact. For betting purpoes I would leave it alone just now - they don't know who they want themselves.

BIRMINGHAM CITY.

Eric Black won't be staying from what I hear. I did say not to back him. Wild Alex McLeish rumours, but I suspect he is using this. Daft tales that he has been offered £60,000-a-week. Not having it.

Billy is a good manager but he also has an incredible record of falling out with his bosses. Not just Derby, but Preston and in Scotland. You need to be able to work with people as well...

Derby County is a short list. The names I heard are Geraint Williams and Paul Ince. I believe both of their clubs will be approached tomorrow.

Ince is convinced he is getting it, but Adam Pearson was trying to track down Williams today. It will come down to interviews.

Paul Jewell is an option but he hass heard nothing and may be a bit too expensive for them. But don't rule him out.

Birmingham City is bizarre. They are sure McLeish is coming. I am yet to be convinced...

Does Yeung have a say regarding the new Birmingham manager? If I remember rightly, the reports stated he was the one that stopped Bruce being offered an extension.

I cant imagine how the 3 of them will agree on one, and would have thought they will not get one till he either buys up or sells up.

It looks a total shambles to me. Gold wanted Black but has not got the full support of the rest of the board. Sullivan and Brady are pulling different ways. Yeung is just an investor at the moment who is likely to move on.

I think they used a takeover as an excuse to let Bruce go. I think they were just fed up with each other.

One way or another why would McLeish want to join that lot?
