Well, I for one would be very disappointed if we were to go for Defoe. He was good a couple of seasons ago but he seems to have suffered from not playing enough and seems to miss far too many chances for my liking. We already have strikers who can do that. We need someone who scores at the rate Benni does, even when he's off form. I know there are many here who rate him but some players you just don't warm to and he's one i personally don't think I could ever take to.

I can't really see Defoe being a "dream" signing though, can you?

No, which is why I'd be very disappointed if he was to be a target. Think we would all like to see a bit more ambition than that even if it doesn't happen. Don't want to go down the Spurs route of being linked with everyone who might possibly be available and signing nobody of any significance but a chance to dream should never be denied to fans.

Juande Ramos has inherited a squad he must frankly be wondering if it is fit for purpose. I doubt that French Director of Football has the clout he had when he lumbered such a set of misfits on Jol so Spurs could well be looking at massive changes this January.

Ramos has said yesterday that Spurs cannot assume they are too good to go down. It only needs Gibson to wake up and sack Southgate and Keane to spend the January money better than the August splash and 18th place is an absolute lottery with Spurs currently mentally by far the worst equipped.

If Ramos thinks he has too many bottlers he cannot rely on (Berbatov has been looking semi-detached for a while by the way), then players like Jason Roberts and Robbie Savage make a huge amount of sense for making sure Spuds don't go down which frankly given where they are has to be the only thing they ought to be thinking about.

Add in ENIC wanting to sell and having the prospect of extremely expensive stadium work whatever they do, then Spurs might not have that much cash this January for squad rebuilding either.

In those circumstances, Rovers are in a decent position to trade with Spurs. Here's wishing Spuds a miserable December.

I imagine the target may well be Adriano, we dont need to worry about the papers highlighting his availability to others, as he is already all over the papers.....

Heck, I think you might have it there Stu.

The games up Nicko!

Breaking news - Kaka agrees to 5 year deal.

 It's only 20 mins since Baz mentioned Kaka to me. I put it on here and there he is already signed and in the kit, fantastic. Now we need a midfielder?

That's a very nice shirt he's wearing.

The target might not be him anyway and it's all hypothetical, but I think that's really really harsh on Defoe, who do people think we should be signing? Messi , Kaka, Rooney?

If there was any chance at all of exchanging Defoe for McCarthy without too much extra money changing hands, we'd be mad not to go for it imo.

The comment about not being able to warm to certain players also describes my own feelings about McCarthy down to a tee. Although I can appreciate he is a cracking player on the occasions when he is in the mood.

P.S. The mock up of Kaka was absolute quality, one of the funniest things on here for a long time.

It's not that defoe is a bad player per se, I think it's a case of Blackburn Rovers can do better than sign Tottenham bench players (huddlestone & defoe)

Would you say the same about Berbatov and Keane if Ramos rotated his strikers and gave Bent and Defoe a spell of games?

As for Huddlestone I haven't seen enough of him to comment fully but it appears Spuds fans couldn't get enough of him 12-18 months ago and most recent concerns seem to centre around his fitness rather than ability.

Yes, and as I said, I know there are plenty of people who would rate Defoe a good signing. He just isn't a player I think is at all an exciting signing.
