Any more news on the cov takeover.

Cov Telegraph has reported a deal is about 24 hours off with Ranson but bbc now says that a billionaire film bod has entered the race and that will slow Ranson's offer down. Also BBC states that Cov only have until Thursday close of business to do the deal.

i have heard a rumour today going around london that Jose is going to take the england job, with Shearer has his number 2, do u know anything about this

I think Mourinho is using this to get a better offer. I felt that from the start. But money talks.

There is a guy quoted in the Guardian today as being keen...but why has he waited so long?

It will take someone with a lot of money or an operator who tries to pull off a clever trick like Ranson.

Either way it could do with being solved.

I think the big movement will be at the bottom end. There is a lot at stake down there.

Mind you, if Derby and possible Wigan are adrift by January 1 they might just settle for going down - and the rest have to buy to avoid the final place.

Sunderland will spend a few quid and Bolton need players but that will depend on Anelka leaving. Tottenham will do a fair bit of business too with a new manager keen to get his people in. Birmingham will shuffle a few about.

In the middle - I don't think Newcastle will allow Allardyce too many signings, Villa's buys are mixed but they will probably get a right back, Man City will sign a striker and Mascherano if they can find the cash.

Rovers will finish anywhere between sixth and 11th. I think the top four and Portsmouth are just that bit stronger. Obviously the better signings they make the higher they finish. The big question is - is it worth the cash?

glad you don't think fulham are a relegation threat

out of all the times fighting for europe i would say portsmouth look the best-but they are due to lose 3-4 of their main team to african cups of nations and could struggle..

as for going down...other then derby i have no idea who else...

wigan with their new manager and will probably be given money to spend could stay up...

sunderland-i backed them to go down-other then jones signings have been poor, but he will probably get more money in january...

fulham-indivually they have some decent players , ie bouazza, davis, but they are struggling alot..

i think its out of them 4 teams to go down...

The last two paragraphs are factually wrong so whether you believe the Times saying Rovers will not spend in January is a bit of a toss-up (Nelsen was banned for two matches and Zura is an option in defence)

The local press in Coventry are saying Ranson's SISU have spoken to all stakeholders (presumably meaning all creditors or creditor-representatives they could reasonably reach) and are inching towards a deal.

I really hope this Coventry thing is not a cruel wind-up.

I hope he delays them long enough to see them go into administration and reveals himself as a Blackburn fan and wants to give us all his money :rover:

Looks like Ranson will get it at the last moment.

The last time Ranson placed an offer on the table the Cov Telegraph basically said it was a done deal and just a matter of minor details. The minor detail was getting it past the biggest creditor. They are heavily behind this deal and keeping everyone positive but you just don't know. It's got to be very difficult to rush a deal like this through.

I think the point he was trying to make was that Samba HAS pace and skill AND plays for us.... hence Fife's theory being out the window.

He was an unknown when we signed him.

Now as a known, he most definately would fit in with Fife theory (Fife's Law as it is universally now known),

ie Skill plus pace = huge cost.

He had them before we signed him though, so the theory is flawed, if you look hard enough you can find gems. :rover:

Yesterday's LT also stated that Mark Hughes has conceded he will have to shop for bargains in January unless there is a takeover.

Extremely disappointing given we "kept our powder dry" in the summer.

If we don't spend money in the summer then one of two things has (and I mean HAS) to go: the board or Hughes. If the board really cannot give Hughes any money then the club has to be sold, because it will be only a matter of time until we find ourselves in the championship. If Hughes seriously thinks that we don't need new and better players in some areas then he has lost the plot and we need a new manager. I don't see anything wrong with him saying this in the media, it is probably better for morale and it doesn't let teams know where we are looking, but I hope it is just a front and not actually the opinion of those at the club.

Come on Eddie your not stupid.

Hughes knows exactly where the weaknesses in our team/squad are, but if he hasn't got the money to buy them why would he come out shouting about it, that would only knock the confidence of those players he wants to replace.

The board have made in clear they are looking for investment, as admittedly we find it hard to compete.

So, to say one of the to HAS to go is a bit OTT. Everyone knows where they stand, and everyone works with those conditions understood.

Lance Davids, the 'versatile' South African who was in on trial last week, is now due to go to Newcastle for training too. My mate in Sweden says he is ordinary, but maybe there is something that he missed...

The bottom line is that there is not much cheap talent about.

It's the quotes gone wrong... Fife was saying about pace and skill e.t.c. and saying getting neither of those for cheap=a Blackburn signing.

I mentioned Chris Samba (as you have noticed too, has pace AND skill)

but when I mentioned it, SparkeyMarky (or whatever he's called) called me a tosspot...

hence the jokey reply of;

thats a bit harsh on Mr.Samba
