According to the Mirror Roberts is frustrated at Rovers and could move to Sunderland for 3 million.

Is this the same Roberts who said he was happy at the club last week ?

I don't think Hughes will sell him for 3 million, who could he get in as a replacement for 3 million who is as good as Roberts ?

Any more news on this story nicko ?

Yes, he wants out...and yes, Sunderland are interested.

keep a sulky player who wants champions league football and who hasnt seemed quite right all season? OR keep a player who is strong, direct, robust and has the hunger to prove himself at the top level?

imo there is no contest ..... i think this summer could see a few faces leave with some need blood being brought in ..... benni, tugay (retire) and savage all out, with the emphasis on quality rather than quantity being brought in.

** hail the volley of abuse from people who can't see beyond their own personal favourite players ** :xmas:

To be honest I would start with Roberts and McCarthy against Wigan. Benni has the skill to turn Bramble inside out and Roberts will look to perform against his old club, and being buoyed on being in the starting X1.

I say sell Cruz

Brilliant idea. Lets sell Benni who has scored 32 goals in under a season and a half, and go with a decent journeyman in Roberts. Keeping Roberts over Benni sends out totally the wrong signals.

Well it was sav and benni last week, roberts this week. Maybe cruz will be in next weeks paper.

I'm just waiting for the usual bentley and pedersen to spurs. I wouldn't be suprised if samba got a mention as well, maybe to man u, liverpool or chelsea ?

i dont blame roberts for wanting to leave..

even when he makes an impact from the bench he never gets a chance the next game..

3million-is quite a decent price-for a guy who hasnt started alot and been injuried quite abit..

but with savage not happy, mcarthy linked away(anelka coming in), roberts wanting to leave, i cant really see two or three players leaving-especially who are around the first team-players like gallagher maybe...

It's the time when players get itchy feet because the transfer window is about to open.

In Roberts's case I can understand if he wants a regular game - it is no bad fault. It's the same with Sav, who wants to play at this stage of his career. McCarthy caused his own problems by getting moody when he was subbed.

Overall it might not be a bad thing to let two or three go and bring some in. It stops things becoming stale.

if we sold roberts, mcarthy and savage and the interest in anelka is true-we would probably blow all the money we made from the three players on one player..

if we didnt sell anyone, is there any idea how much transfer kitty mark hughes would of had anyway???

benni hasnt been right all season ..... name the last match when BM & RSC played well together? there is no doubting BM's skill but the guy just doesnt want to be here no matter what spin is put out by the player / manager / club ..... he thinks he should be playing at the higher level and on his day he should be, but he just hasnt been putting in the performances this season. dont get me wrong, i am not saying that JR is a better player, but he puts 100% effort in every time he comes on the pitch ..... the difference is that JR wants to play football and would be commited given the chance, the impression i get with BM is that he doesnt want to play here.

its not all about the 'name' of the player, its about a partnership ..... mike newell wasnt the best striker to ever grace ewood, but he worked well in tandem with some other player who played up front at that time, i think his name was alan summat or another ..... imo (and that is what ths board is all about afterall, even though some people think they have the god given right to ride rough-shod over other people opinions) a front two of JR & RSC would make a better partnership than sulky pants & RSC.

having said all that, i would as happy as anybody else if BM stopped his games and got back down to the business of playing well for rovers which would benefit us (the supporters), the team, the club and maybe that would be the way for him to get a dream move to a CL club.

rant over and a merry xmas to you one & all ..... except the arrogant fools on here who think they know it all :xmas:

Hope you're not including me in the arrogant fools section :xmas:

I thought Benni put the effort in against West Ham. We've got a top quality striker - even if he does sulk sometimes - I think we should hang on to him.

Merry Christmas Fernhurstblue! :)

You wouldnt be talking about Philipl would you Fernhursty?

I do agree with your comments about Benni left winger, id love to keep him as the is no real challenger of quality to challenge him or Cruz so if we were to sell some crud then Anelka would provide us with the best ever strike force weve had.

Merry Christmas Ferny! :rover:

Well I'm a Benni fan but think we should go all out to hang on to Roberts. The Roberts/Santa partnership has looked the most dangerous of late.

If selling Benni meant getting Anelka - then I'd probably go for it. I think they're of similar quality - but Anelka has pace - and maybe Benni and RSC aren't the best combination. If we weren't going to get a top quality striker to replace Benni - then no way should we sell. I'd be sorry to see Roberts go though - he can be good from the bench.

I would like Roberts to stay at Rovers - as he hasn`t played as many games due to injury and feel that he should justify his stay at Ewwod, and I can also appreciate that he wants to play regular football, which he could at a Club like Sunderland, Wigan, Derby etc.

how is Rigters progressing, haven`t seen him on the reserve team for a while ?

Also, is there any substance in a move for Wes Brown to come to Ewood - not sur eif you have sniffed anything out about this !

I'd have to say Rigters has not contributed much. But he was cheap, so it's no great loss.

From what I hear Brown thinks he can get £50,000-a-week somewhere. I only hope it is not at your club.

I dont want Roberts to leave as he offers us pace and power but if this rumour is kosher then it sounds like Kenwynn Jones might be moving on. So business hat on..........

1. I'd go for a swap deal.

2. If the Jones move is already a 'done deal' to somewhere else (Lpool poss?), then we need to know the value of the deal before we even let Roberts talk to em in order to extract as much as possible out of the increasingly desperate mackems.

I believe Sunderland see Roberts as a partner for Jones, but both your points are valid.

i have a sneaky feeling Hughes does not think Rigters has got what it takes to be succesful in the prem leagaue anymore and only bought him because of his performances in the u21 euro champs. The only thing good out of the deal was that he was cheap.

i agree and its about time Roberts started a game for us, the guy looks hungry and up for it, so i don't know why Hughes keeps on playing Bennie when quite simply he is not producing the goods

Benni was by far and away our best outfield player on sunday. Several times better than Roque who missed two good chances and really offered little. The midfield aren't creating chances, so I do feel sorry for anyone playing up front, but at least with Benni you'll know that he is almost certain to score a chance you create for him. If we're doing this on form rather than popularity then there is no way that yuo can drop Benni ahead of RSC at the moment.
