You heard anything about Vieri going to Man City Nicko?

I've heard my hometown team Hull City had talks with Vieri whilst training out in Italy earlier in the summer... but once it was known he was speaking to a club in England, Man City's interest arose.

Vieri signed for Fiorentina a few days ago.

I honestly hope Santa Cruz does go elsewhere. He has "expensive flop" written all over him.

But if the rumours are true, if Santa Cruz goes elsewhere that means we move on to Beattie. I'm really not sure who I'd rather throw the dice with, really. I'm just not sold on Beattie rediscovering his form with us.

At least Pukka Pies could set up a profitable stand at the training ground what with Dunny and Beattie at the same place at the same time.

At least Santa Cruz give some great song material, at 4.5 mil... wouldn't that signing get the creative juices flowing for the fans and get them excited? I mean, combine him with that 18 yo whise name nicko dorrped earlier, and certainly that'd get the fans excited for a bunch of new songs?

Just seen that Kluivert has rejected Sheffield Wednesday, could he not do a job for us this season with UEFA cup etc, I know wages etc is a major factor with us, but with a small squad like ours we struggle to be consistent in all competitions, the reason that Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool & Spurs do well in domestic & Europe is because they have large squads so can rest key players when needed. Also, if Hughes does sign Roque Santa Cruz then trust his judgement. Who had heard of Ryan Nelsen or Christopher Samba? They are top players, Jeffers is the only player really who has disappointed & he cost nothing.

Yeah, suppose so, but don't think Hughes would gamble so much on a player who he didn't think could cut it at the club. If he does sign & proves to be a success then we have a fantastic chance of silverware this season, especially with Benni's goalscoring capabilities. I think if all players are fit then we would have a great side, my slight concerns are the centre of midfield, if Reid & Savage suffer any setbacks that leaves us with Tugay, Dunn & Mokoena, are we going to better what we did last year with that? Any suggestions on possible centre midfielders?

even if sanat claus signs and brings us all prezzies....the problem is that all the other clubs that we could class as direct rivals have already strengthened themselves equally if not more so than we have yet...even with reid and savage back......reid was out for aaaaages and might not be the same player as before.......nelsen is back and good.....but still not quite there....dunny has a lot to prove.....tugay is old......theres just too many ifs and buts with us at the moment.......if all goes well, then yeah we could be a force.....but we could well be looking at mid table again and a decent cup run at best.............

Totally agree with you 100%. We need re-inforcements or we may struggle, every other club in the prem are signing players. I also read that Alan Smith is in talks with Middlesbrough, he would be a great signing for us, could play centre mid or up front. I'm sure Hughes won't let us down & am certain he will sign other players but so far the two he has signed are not going to walk into the starting eleven. On a lighter note, Could we not sell Jeffers to LA Galaxy!!

You guys drunk?

I have been enjoying a decent glass and I have only just stopped laughing at the last few posts. Anyway onto topic:

Santa Cruz plus Sparky= probably something special

Santa Cruz plus Zaragoza= CL early exit + Roque is a continuing flop + Mrs and the kids can speak Spanish

Roque is off to Zaragoza and Ewood will not be smelling quite so strongly of over excited ladies as it would have been had he appeared in the famous blue and white halves.

We now have to trust in Beattie having enough brain and grit to benefit from Sparky kicking several shades of the proverbial out of him to produce what he would have become had Uncle Jack not allowed a load of halfwits and incompetents to fester around Ewood when Beats was coming through at the Rovers as a youngster.

It's rumoured Kluivert made some extremely unflattering comments about Blackburn (the place as opposed to the football club) along the lines of "If you think I'm going to live in a ******* dump like that you're one off."

Not that wide of the mark was he? But wasn't that attributed to Robert Witschge?

Free transfer I know but Jeffers did not work out for Hughes, and it is very doubtful Beattie can stay fit for a couple of weeks, let alone get in our squad of 16.

I thought the line from the chairman/manager was that they would only bring in players who would really challenge the first team??

Not drunk I'm afraid!!

I'm not too keen on Beattie, think it'll be another Jeffers, only this time we'll have to pay a fee. Unfortunately we let Beattie go, he has had his day at Southampton & Everton & can't see him recapturing that goalscoring form. If I were manager I'd play Derbyshire or Roberts in front of him, so therefore, Kluivert would be a better choice as he'd cost nothing. I know Kluivert is at the end of his career but he could play in the lesser important games.

Some pretty live news that may just affect the old merry-go-round.

Middlesbrough have agreed £6 million fee with Manchester United for Alan Smith. He will come back early from the Far East to talk to them. My info is that he would prefer Everton who will have to match the fee which is also lower than expected. United just want rid.

If Everton go for Smith I think they will surely sell James Beattie because they need some cash. They are also fannying around with the Leighton Baines situation.

So if Smith says no to Boro and gives the come-on look to Everton then Beattie may be available at a reasonable price as they try to raise the cash. I believe Rovers still rate him at £2.5 million, but you never know when there are so many deals toing and froing.

Watch this space.

Been to see Blackpool v Wigan. Bramble did well until a customary slip. Koumas was quiet. Henri Camara nowehere to be seen. I would imagine he is very available.

Is it just me or has Santa Cruz NOT signed for Zaragoza nine hours after the story first broke...

Has Wigan signed Bramble?? Poor guys!

Or has Blackpool splashed the cash perhaps? :D

I totally agree with Philip, you are exaggerating the strenghtening of the teams around us - and you've forgotten the state these clubs are in. Man City doesn't need eight new players this summer to make the top eight in - say - five years. They do need a lot of players to make it there THIS season though - but at the same time they will need a lot of luck and great man management to make this team gel early enough.

And wasn't West Ham supposed to make it to Europe this season?

Tottenham is the one team I believe can make it this season, because they have a solid foundation to build on - and the right people to do so it seems. However, I don't see why we shouldn't compete with them for the same places, I think a lot of people underrate our team massively.
