Fans FC is linking us to Alan Smith... 4th mystery target?

Would be very good signing I think. However, sounds like Everton are his most likely destination, having said that they do have a number of forwards & midfielders already. Middlesbrough were linked with him but with the prospect of european football we could beat them to his signature. As I type this sky sports news announced he is considering Boro. Get in there quick Sparky!!!

Is any club chasing Royston Drenthe (under 21 Dutch midfielder). Would he not be a good signing for us? Certainly looked a good player in u21 tournament.

Not many, only Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona...

I agree. Beattie is crap and Camara may be past it.

Smith could play centre mid with Savage (solid!!)if Reid struggles & Santa Cruz up front with McCarthy. Then I believe we only need to sign a more established right back (maybe Hoyte, could get him on loan or cheap as Wenger tends to dislike any English players)

ok i know il probably get a load of critisism for saying this but we need to act and act fast in the transfer market.

the squad is thin on the ground, and there is not much depth either.in my opinion the striking depetment is fine as it is.it really is the center of the park where we need some CREATIVITY.i know this doesnt come cheap but with the board being as prudent as they are (im not saying this is a bad thing) i think the club can afford to shell out the 7m or so i think it would take to sign some quality for the centre.

it really feels like the club are standing still whilst others around us are making strides to imporve the quality and depths of there squads.i know people will go on about we are fine as we are,but as we all know pedersen can go missing in 50% of the games, and there is no guarantee that bently will sustain his brilliant form from last season.reid and savage are both coming back from long term injuries (injuries that normally take alot of time to fully recover) and tugay cant be relied upon to start even half the games in a season.samba in my opinion has more cult status that anything, and ooijer will take time too come good again.we just need some kind of back up plan, and even if we do get a striker before the start of the season we still need more.if we dont i feel we will have a similar uefa campaign than that of last season, and also may not even equal last seasons 10th place in the league.

i hope im wrong, and im not calling for hughes to panic buy,but we need more quality.and right now i am not to confident about next season as a few injuries and a drop in form and uite frankly were buggered.i dont for one season that we will be anywhere near a relegation scrap, thats not what im saying but mediocrity is what were headed for if out centre of midield issues are not addressed.and please dont anyone mention david dunn as being the solution.he has had it and is too injury prone.

...as someone mentioned on here, hughes does have a clever knack of putting a positive spin on things, and saying that we have the best squad since our glory days doesnt cut it with me...what is he meant to say...we are seriously thin and we need help, and we need it fast??!!!...not great for morale is it?,anyway i remeber some similar things that souness said before he jumped ship, and look where he left us!

sorry for being all doom and gloom, but this is only my opinion, and i feel that some of the optimism on here isnt justified...but please feel free to make me more optimistic!!!!!i think i need it!!

what are you on about, rev ? i dont profess to know everyone. you proper iritate me.

stu, i dont know a 'phil'. what's he do ? is he a groundsman ?

I have no idea, other than he works with the academy at City, everyone knows him who is involved with football in this area - he does a lot of assessing as well in the lower leagues. He's been mates with my old geezer for decades.

Oh don't say that! I remember Souey saying it as well. However he did follow it up with "But this season's still about securing our top flight status".

I do agree with you though, I just can't help but feel that despite the club's positive attitiude about our strength in depth that it all is down to financial restrictions why they are saying this. Clubs like City are going to make it even harder for us to achieve a top 8 finish.

Rovers need a striker and i feel once we have got Santa Cruz or whoever it may be the transfer window shuts for Sparky. He may wait for the takeover to be completed and then move for a creative midfielder and im sure tugay and dunn can do well until january??
