I wopuldn't say he's rubbish but he is vastly over-rated.

Him arriving for 8 million squid would not get my pulse racing at all.

It would mine, but not in a happy sort of way. I like Alan Smith actually but not at half that price.

At £4.5 million Santa Cruz represents the best deal we can do. Remember Harewood cost £4m or something similar.

If we sign James Beattie (even for £2.5m) I will be devastated.

Santa Cruz is 25 and class. His goal scoring record might not be up to much - but he can play.

Mccarthy (29 or 30), Roberts (29), Santa Cruz (25), Derbyshire (21 or 22) and Rigters (23) - now that's a forward line. Class, power and hunger. Only lacking Bellamy style pace.

and not very good in the air either.

Mmmm .... have you ever seen him play? This is actually one of his better attributes.

I think he is actually quite decent ( or was) and IMO would compliment McCarthy well in respect of him doing teh donkey work and probably contibuting a few goals himself ie they would make a good partnership up front - but he is not worth the money they are asking - even in todays' mad cow disease market.

And can people please stop this malarky he is a midfield player ... he isn't - its just that RFW played him there at MU after Keane left.

These are the stats for the linked strikers for the last four seasons (league only):

Alan Smith 96 games/16 goals

Luigi Pieroni 76 games/ 21 goals

James Beattie 87 games/16 goals

Roque Santa Cruz 72 games/9 goals

Not very impressive really is it?? Pedersen & Bentley must have better stats than that & they are wingers.

"He enjoyed his most prolific season in the 2003/2004 campaign with Mouscron in the Jupiler League, Belgium’s premier competition, scoring 28 times in 30 appearances and becoming the league’s top scorer."

I think his dip in form was due to the pi55 poor managment at a very bad team. I think he will be a good player, healthy comp for the other strikers we have and should be cheap comming from a religated Nantes.

Tbh fellas we should be looking at signing Santa Cruz because hes a top quality player and yet you people still wana whigne about his goalscoring record. who would you rather have Cruz or Beattie? for me cruz by a mile.

If people are wondering about centre midfield id like to think hughes would be taking a look at Flamini but i dont think a cm is really needed.

So Nicko whats the latest you got any info on this Peroni guy?

I seem to remember that he scored against us with a last minute header. (Can't remember exactly when it was though.)

The Saha "magic handball" match where Amo got the red card. MGP's first match and Souey's last. 3 years ago now.

For some reason I couldn't get to the site until a couple of minutes ago. Thought the Transfer Police had moved in and blocked me.

Anyway...here goes.

Roque Santa Cruz - is due to talk to Rovers any time now. Bayern told him he can go. The Zaragoza story was wrong. It will probably be down to Rovers and Porto. I think Man City have got bored and looked elsewhere.

James Beattie - big development. There is a bid in for him and Everton will sell. You won't believe the club and I have to keep this quiet until the morning. Rovers have not yet budged on their valuation, but the new club have put in more money than anyone could have imagined.

Alan Smith - the price is £6 million and he is due to talk to Middlesbrough. However he is stalling and I think that is for Everton. That would explain why they want to sell Beattie to raise the cash.

Luigi Pieroni - more likely to be Boro than Blackburn. His name has been on the list, but as a Last Dance at the Disco option.

Jason Brown - my Crystal Palace source tells me Peter Taylor will not be given much money to spend, so that one will probably stay on the shelf.

Good to see the LET catch up with Djeziri and the Santa Cruz/Beattie stuff today.

Maybe they have put the blocks on.

I'm not paranoid, it's the guy who is watching me who is.

hes not typed in the thread for a number of pages...

He was on late last night, i'm sure he is a busy man. The number of pages is general links to random players just from today!! Would these not be better off in the transfer topic anyway?

I assume he doesn't just sit around on this messageboard all day long...

If we paid him enough i'm sure he would :P
