 Fair play Pleasure - I'll give you this one

Oh pleeeeeeease!

Everyone (who reads this thread) knew he was flying in for talks today. The LET special mentions Hughes has not spoken to him yet so I doubt anyone has said he is having a medical. It goes without saying that if he's here for talks he will obviously have a medical too.

Does someone want to send the LET a dictionary to help them with the word 'exclusive' and its meaning?

In tabloid parlance it means "also published in all today's other papers", yes? B)

Jibes aside, congrats on the scoop, Nicko.

I don't know about Benni going. The Chelsea thing had some truth in it and may yet rear its ugly head again. Galatasaray do not have the money it would take.

If Santa Cruz goes through OK - medical, any late hitches - I would imagine that leaves the club in a very strong position and able to decide if they want anyone to go - rather than be one man short by their own admission.

It's funny how these things work out. If Everton had not overpriced Beattie you would have got him instead.

That's why the transfer market has so many twists and turns and is hard to keep up with.

As it stands you could have McCarthy, Roberts, Derbyshire, Rigters and now Santa Cruz compoeting for two places. It might look one too many but it is a long season.

Got to say I have to congratulate Rovers on forcing the issue on Santa Cruz. That was a hard one to do with the other clubs in and the player, his father, his various agents touting him all over.

Also good to see the club can find money for a player despite all the rumours they were hamstrung by the takeover talk.

Just a thought. If Dan Williams does pull it off before the window shuts does he spend money immediately or keep it back for January?

It's a happy position to be in.

For all of the Santa Cruz doubters - and there have been fair questions raised - I think it is decent business in the current market and the manager has not bought too many duds so far.

This is the same place that sent us a nasty-o-gram for cutting and pasting their copyrighted exclusive on the Garner book. Shame both of us had cut it from the same press release :)

(to be fair, that was a long time ago).

Football is a funny game, looking at Santa Cruz's profile he has scored no less than 12 goals in 143 games for Bayern but I would still want him instead of Beattie who has scored 13 goals in 76 games for Everton. I guess it's because I don't really know what to expect from Santa Cruz and I think the potential upside is greater than signing Beattie.

interesting thought, considering some of the poison you post (mostly about me) is.... you obviously dont like tasting your own medicine, tchocky.

Given your illustrious record of never getting anything right, such as you once posting that SWP was signing for us because you knew him, shouldnt you be surprised nobody believes you.

Anyway, go make Gavs a cup of tea.

Happy with this signing. We need to get him fit and playing and then I'm sure we'll see a real player. Remember seeing him when he was 17 and he was like Van Basten. Obviously he hasn't followed that through but if there's a maanager to bring the best out of a player we've got him...

I am pleased wwe have signed Cruz. He is easily the player with the most quality out of those we have been linked with, even if his scoring record is appalling. I reckon Hughes will whip him into shape.

I do have a feeling that Benni or Roberts is going to leave though, i hope not. A front line of Benni, Santa Cruz, Derbyshire, Roberts, Rigters is very very good. Just the top four and Spurs (and maybe Newcastle since they got Viduka) who can match or beat that quality imo.

yeah beattie has turned 30 and hasnt scored a goal for how long, long enough anyway to remember. santa cruz is only 25 played for one of the biggest clubs in the world, bags of potnetial, had a few injuries along the way and if everton wanted around 3million for a beattie id pay 1.5miilion more anydasy for a player whos 5 years younger and has good potnetial. :rover:

this is what sparky thinks of him "What we don't have is a real threat in the air and that is something we are looking to address.

"Santa Cruz is a young player, an international with a good reputation who is playing at a top European club."

meaning, 1 and possibly 2 forwards may be leaving, before the end of the window.

i hope they dont, though.

Daily Mail on this subject:

With Francis Jeffers and Paul Gallagher also on the payroll, Hughes might be tempted to offload one of his strikers if Santa Cruz arrives.

Hughes said: "Possibly that could happen but I am quite happy with the options I have.

"I am looking to supplement the qualities of the strikers we have here.

"You have to have depth and quality to cope with the demands of a long season."

den, we shall see what happens - & where we are, once the window has shut. 2/3 clubs are very keen on a couple of our strikers.

personally, i'd be more than happy, to stick with what we have, in the forward department (again discounting jeffers)

sparky said that sanat cruz is in good fitness due to his recent participation in the copa america. so hes not much behind others in term of fitness

Yeah he had a great copa America, scored 5 i think! but then hes a bit like David Healy in that respect! he is awesome for his nation but hasnt lived up to expectations in club football!
