I think players are using us as a shop window. But you're never going to have a nice shop if you don't try and display something decent in your window. I'd rather have players like Benni McCarthy and Santa Cruz in my shop window than Beattie.

Its not a problem anyway because no one can see the players in the shop window because of all the lonsdale crap and you when they try and pick them up online and you click on Benni all that comes up is - sorry we dont have any Benni's in stock at the moment and it will stay like that for the season

So not to worry :P

Not that I am about to stick up for Chopra but you have to remember he bagged over 20 goals last year. I know it was for a championship side but thats still very good. Yes 5m is steep but he could be another Darren Bent.

Kuqi managed 20 goals in the Championship... :ph34r:

I reckon most players that arrive at Blackburn sees us as a stepping stone to something better. That is called ambition, and I have no problem with players wanting to play for the best clubs and be involved in the champions league. If every player that we sign show a hughe amount of ambition and determination then that will take Blackburn Rovers football club to another level.

That's one of the sensible comments I've read in ages.

Does anybody else feel like these players are using Rovers as a shop window?

Some of them are. But that's the way it is unless you're one of Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Milan or Inter. Even other big clubs like Ajax, Roma, Bayern München etc. suffer from this to a lesser extent. Every player, except a few who for some reason become very attached to a city or club, wants to play for the best, so they see smaller clubs as "stepping stones" in a way (Note that that can be to varying degrees. Some might enjoy their time at the club a lot, but still wouldn't turn down Man U. Others want out right away). But it doesn't bother me, because in order to get that move to a big club they have to play very well, and part of that is focusing everything mentally on helping their current club. Getting a couple of years of excellent service and then making a profit isn't a bad deal for a club like Rovers.

nope but I read it

Then why bother with the negative post. :blink:

Because people are getting very excited over a very average player who's been bobbins for a few years now.

to quote the first paragraph from the Guardian story

Terrible. Rubbish. Disgraceful. Useless. Crap. Ridiculous. Hopeless. Bloody awful. It was, in other words, just another day at the office for Roque Santa Cruz. In a few years, when people might still wonder what exactly happened to Germany's biggest club in 2006-07, one can simply point to the fact that the Paraguayan striker - the term is used very loosely here, he's scored zero in 22 this season, and a grand total of 29 in his seven previous seasons in Munich - was actually allowed to start three very important matches in a row. Santa Cruz, once a cult hero among fans, has elevated apathy to an art form and taken meekness to new, unprecedented levels. Against Milan and Leverkusen, the 25-year-old's performances were so infuriatingly inept that he was booed off the pitch in the Allianz Arena by the 66,000 crowd.

Thats why I'm being negative and compleatly underwhelmed

Id rather have a player who's done it in the Prem who grew up with club (ala Beattie) if we need to get a slightly past it striker.

The manager was at a press conference, the player was coming in for his medical. He only landed hours before. So they will meet soon enough.

It's hard for the media to keep up with this website obviously. :lol:

If you think some of them are slow check out the Liverpool Echo today.

Blackburn to bid for Beattie...along with Sheffield United. Hello, will you tell them or should I?

nicko, i'm told santa is due for a medical, at rovers, today!

It was Pleasure that stated there was a medical for Santa Cruz this morning, no other article stated this, in Hughes' interview this morning he stated that Cruz was in in England but they were yet to meet; although he would like to complete the transfer within the next 24 hrs

There is a bit more news...on another player.

The second trialist is an American kid, training with the reserves.

If anyone has a name - oe even a club - it would be gratefully recieved. There is a Sunday People to write.

I believe the young Dane Djeziri has not looked out of place. I don't know how he will get a game to play in. No doubt behind closed doors...unofficially of course.

I know Rovers have cut back on surplus staff but getting Hughesy to do medicals is a bit much! :rolleyes:

I can imagine a Hughes "medical"

[Hughes] Here we go, tell me if this hurts.

{Hughes kicks player in the arse}

[Player] Ow!

[Hughes] Lets try that again, tell me if this hurts!

{Hughes kicks player in the arse harder}

[Player] Ow!

[Hughes] Lets try that again, tell me if this hurts!

{Hughes kicks player in the arse harder}

{Player grimaces} [player] No!

[Hughes] Welcome Aboard, son!
