Probably striker number eight just now.

A year in the SPL - where he would score goals - would do the kid no harm at all.

Penalty-box animal and with a nasty edge.

That never does any harm does it? btw How about Scottish 1st Div?

Rovers won the Lancashire Senior Cup tonight. It was 5-2 when I left.

Joe Garner got a hat-trick of striker's goals. Might be enough to earn him a move. Dundee United boss Craig Levein was there to see him and has to be impressed. He could have been sent off for banjoing a boy on the ground, mind you.

Some very reasonable talent in the side. Tony Kane will make a right back and the midfielders Royston Griffiths and Brian Hodge are handy.

There could be a few goood loan signings for people there. Miles better than Bolton, don't know why it was 2-2 for so long.

I think I spotted you nicko, chattering away on the phone when you walked past me. Although I never saw you sneak out.

Agree with the four players you mentioned, all played very well. Also Judge had an excellent second half along the right touchline were I spent that half.

heard from a contact at man city, that they're hoping to sign Vedran Corluka, a centre-back from shaktar, by the end of this week. he's due in the country today apparantly. he's awesome on football manager, if that counts for anything.

Credit where it is due, my man.

I wish I had been able to stand up your tip yesterday. Too much time on other things sadly - and Man City ducking the question after all of their other transfer failures.

In short, I think you have/had a scoop there.

My congratulations.

thanks, nicko.

the same source has told me, city will loan out samaras to a french side, (either rennes/ lenns) once they've got a full compliment of strikers. but the big thing he told me, is....

west ham will sign cassano from real madrid!

i cant see it, myself - him and bellamy, will be explosive in more ways than 1.

I will check that out too...although it will be hard to crack.

Joe Garner and Dundee United - loan deal - has a big chance of happening. It's in The Sun in Scotland [another Nicko outlet].

If he goes have a fly couple of bob on him netting the first goal against Aberdeen on Saturday. He's a goalscorer.

That's one hundred pages Nicko, may there be a hundred more ;)

Garner to Scotland sounds good, should be a fitting league for him. Will be tough to break through with three experienced and established strikers at top level in front of him + Derbyshire who is one or two steps ahead already. But if he is good enough, I am sure Hughes will notice and give him a chance at some point.

And for the geezer who thought the Pieroni story was 'journalistic jibber-jabber'....

Trying translating this from L'Equipe.

In short, he was hoping to go Blackburn but they have signed Roque instead.

Should have been reading the thread, perhaps.

John Williams's quote on Benni McCarthy made me chuckle...I think that particular expression might have been used here on Sunday or Monday.

“Mind you I wish it was September 1 and not August 1, so the window was closed.”

I think that sums up the general attitude and mood rather than anything significant to worry about.

From Babelfish

Whereas it had entrusted his wish to us to leave Nantes as of June, Luigi Pieroni still did not find shoe with its foot. Old the Resident of Auxerre hopes however that the situation will be released quickly. I wait phone calls Wednesday or Thursday. Especially coming from English clubs like Middlesbrough and Blackburn, the Belgian entrusts. But for Blackburn, considering that they already recruited Roque Santa Cruz, I do not know what that will give, that adds which does not wish to remain in Loire-Atlantique in spite of the arrival of a new shareholder, Waldemar Kita. "For me, that does not change anything. I want to leave and they do not want to keep me. From there, it is clear !

...mm, quite.

Nicko, could you clarify something for me? In your report today you quoted Roque as saying

"The coach told me he wanted me on the bench next season and that was not for me. I wanted to come here and play."

Does that mean that Bayern told him he'd be benched so he came to us or that Rovers' coaching staff told him he'd be on the bench? I presumed the former but a guy on the official message board is waxing lyrical about us telling him he'd be a sub next season.

Ambiguity is very naughty, Nicko :)

Not much news today - apart from the devastation that is going at Middlesbrough.

All THREE top centre halves - Pogatetz, Woodgate and Huth - will miss your opening game.

Total chaos and panic. If you can't beat them...
