btw 'nicko' I must say your snippets on this thread have been very entertaining and informative. It takes a certain quality to shut down the usual 'transfer topic'.

However your sudden appearence at the time of the breaking 'Rovers for sale' story and your departure now that you appear to have been somewhat rumbled will leave most people wondering about your actual intentions in the first place, and especially when you as a scot are so enamoured with foreign 'moneymen' chucking funnymoney at our national sport in England. The last scot that we had in charge here seemed to have an unhealthy interest in filthy lucre too.

For your own good I suggest that in future you stick to the Sports pages at the back of the popular press as the complex murky world and intrigue of the Business Section does not appear to suit your abilities.

So ta ra 'nicko' this bit at least has been fun but dont let the door slap your arse on the way out.

Right then, some news.

Because of a repeated libel on another thread on this website I will be stopping this 'service' as of now. The newspaper involved is under an obligation not to repeat the story and had to pay me £18,500 for the original.

The original Sunday Express was written by a reporter who was involved in a share-hiking scandal and was sacked by the Daily Mirror. He made up a story to get at his old employers and me. The other writer was a rival football reporter.

It is unusual for a freelance reporter to have to sue a national newspaper. Their smug lawyers said they would never settle. They had to because the story was one of the biggest inventions of all time. They did not have any form of defence. I got the settlement a year later and an apology, above an advert for pile cream. How appropriate was that?

Anyway I would like to thank 'brownie' for the kind invite in the first place. I don't know the guy, but it was appreciated.

The transfer window is always an interesting time and having dialogue with fans over the past few weeks has made it fly by even quicker. I will miss that.

The way you worked out Roque Santa Cruz from an obscure clue was brilliant. The tip about the Man City target was superb work. There are enough good people out there to work out what is going on for themselves.

I would hope I have given you some insight into the transfer world and maybe even how newspapers work.

For those who want to be reporters I hope you succceed and enjoy it.

But I won't have my integrity questioned by a couple of maggots.

In the meantime I will no doubt upset and anger with future stories about Rovers. It happens.

There really are some complete arseholes on this board.

As some of you might know I used to write the news items on this site and since Lee left my postings have diminished though the messageboard is still very entertaining.

However, in my opinion, the Nicko thread, has been the most interesting informative thread ever to hit this website since it was developed under the late great Lee Grooby.

I have been too busy over the last few days completing my purchase of The Hordens to log on untill this morning and must say I'm very dissapointed in some members of this Board.

Come back when you feel the time is right Nicko, you will be sorely missed by 99% of the members and more importantly the website.

This is absolutely pathetic.

I can't believe that a couple of miserable, paranoid attention-whores have yet again managed to impose their will on this board by acting like jealous, petulant little children.

Frankly, I'm also a little surprised that the admin/mods allowed some of the spurious accusations and insinuations to develop in the way that they did. This whole “drama” leaves a rather nasty taste in the mouth, and could probably have been avoided.

I hope you'll reconsider your decision, Nicko - even your most vague and pointless contributions to this board have interested me more than the usual pseudo-intellectual, self aggrandised dross that seems to flow so easily from the keyboards of your detractors.

Im sorry to hear that Nicko you have been great on hear ive loved reading your posts and your thread theyve been very informative and you have also helped me about jurno courses for which im very thankful for.

Its a minority of idiots who have made Nicko go and i for one feel sorry for you as you have no right to critisise anyone espicially someone who came on here to help us understand the transfers and give us reletive information about players.

I think it's extremely sad that nicko appears to have been hounded off the m/b, his transfer information seemed to be top notch, - Rigters, Fulham bidding for Roberts, Santa Cruz being offered to Rovers, and the young left winger being on trial.

As for the takeover story, it appears to be a case of shooting the messenger. I don't think nicko was ever really guilty of anything other than doing his job - simply sexing a genuine story up slightly to try and make it interesting enough to get published, making sure he got paid (for the story being published) and ensuring the newspaper sold copies.

Thanks for the contributions nicko, appreciated here, feel free to come back on the m/b any time for me.

Just remember that the person who initially dragged up potentially libellous details of an old legal case appears to originate from Southampton and not from round here!.

For me, the board has never represented such quality and entertaining reading as it has with Nicko on board. I'm shocked that people are not as upset as I am that by far the most appreciated and entertaining member of the board has been driven away by a few pricks with a big ego and a desire to enforce that wherever possible.

I'm not one of these people who ask every day "Nicko, what's going on today," although I can understand the desire to know, such was the intrigue that Nicko provided in his short time here, but this annoys me so much. I don't think that I, myself, could leave the board as I have know exactly what is going on with Rovers, but I would be very surprised if a fair few others just gave up on the board when it's most valued posters are driven away. in three years on the board, this last month or so has been far the best and that is purely because of Nicko. A few hundred pages of posts would be indicative to his impact on the board I would be interested to know the influx of new members and the increase in posts of other because of his input.

Personally, I thought that more should have been done by the moderating team to curb the insults and accusations at what is, afterall, another member of the board, and to stop a Saints fan with an obvious personal agenda against Nicko and Dan Williams before it went too far. Even if he hadn't necessarily done anything to break the rules, which I'm sure he did, his obvious agenda must be reason enough to put him on mod watch or even to straight out ban him. I've never been critical of the moderating team for a second, but I really am disappointed with how the "Rovers Sold?" thread was moderated. One can question Dan Williams all they want – they have a right – but to suggest that Nicko is his secret PR agent is absolute nonsense, especially when there is no evidence to suggest that that is the case.

Sorry pal im just in a rush to go out but i wanted to pass on my regards to Nicko so hence the rush and errors.

Its not my site but as he is getting abuse from 1 or 2 idiots im just saying if he quits this board he would be welcomed on any other rovers board which im sure you would agree.

I concur 100%, my opinion is some poeple just can't handle having, what they percieve as, the spotlight removed from them. In order to maintain their need for attention they try to get it by trashing a poster that 99.9% of the peolpe on here seemed to enjoy. Bit like a child really, if they are not getting attention they act out of sorts, they don't care if it is positive or negative attention as long as they are getting it. My two cents. Or twopence.

What difference does it make if another site/forum is plugged from here? Or does this fall into the category of "unquestionable content or links?"

And while I’m on one why feel the need to respond to criticise someone else’s use of the language? The poster observed the request to make an effort to post in English, there are many reasons why spelling and grammar might not be perfect in every case.

Too many people on this board want to ram so called etiquette down everyone else’s throats and police things.

And I came here from the official board and was really enjoying it up till this point.

Very sad to see Nicko leaving irrespective of the reasons.

Since this thread began a month ago, it's been the first thing I've looked at when I came to this messageboard. It's a shame that a few rotten apples decided to ruin Alan's insights for the rest of us, but such is the way of the world I guess.
