A huge insult to the many intelligent readers who enjoyed the lid being lifted slightly on the murky world of footy transfers. Hardly any of the posters in the last few pages are ones who were typing 'tell us more Nicko'. Happy for you to formulate your own opinion, but perhaps you'd let the rest of us do the same?

Er, I think you're being overly defensive there, theno. I didn't spot anyone mentioning or even referring to you. It was that Guided Missile chap (followed by some distinctly venomous posts from Tris for some reason). So blame Southampton fans(directors?)!

I've refrained from the chorus (because his time is his own and messageboards can really suck time up) but I thought I'd point that out. Your opinions are your own and nicko didn't seem bothered by anything until the story mentioned got dragged up and waved about. In all fairness to him, he posted some really good information here which he really didn't have to and having irrelevant stuff from the past that you thought was settled brought up would aggravate anyone.

Back to the usual transfer speculation, I suppose! Oh, well...

Just on the Southampton message board malarkey, I'd like to point out that faking information such as IP addresses, the name displayed and the "From" field on any form of internet communication is trivial. The only sure form of internet communication is digital certification (called signing). Unless those communications were signed, they're worth exactly the paper they're printed on (i.e. none). I find it amazing that people are willing to believe that a business person managing the multi-million pound takeover of a football club would be leaking contracts and confidential information to message board moderators who have no say in whether or not the deal goes through. Although some people still don't believe the earth is over 6,000 years old and there IS a flat earth society, so maybe I shouldn't be.

Edit: I meant to say that the only way of ensuring that the people involved in an internet communication are who they say they are is digital signing. Just to avoid any ambiguity.

If anyone has reason to ask why I asked whether nicko was doing PR work for a party rumoured to be bidding for Rovers, this appears in today's otherwise entirely positive Observer profile of Milan Mandaric's time at Leicester and Portsmouth:

"And he will be, even by his doubters, although some of the whispers about him are pretty sinister. A source close to the board claimed that Mandaric had gained the support of local and national media, having enlisted the help of a Fleet Street name who 'regularly appeared by his side at matches', to smooth his way into power."

I did publicly apologise to nicko when he took great offense to the question. Nicko's valedictory response:

Which he has denied several times, at which point the question needs to stop being asked until you have some truth to back it up. I'm not defending Nicko because I have developed a man-crush on his information giving, but I don't like it when this board looks into people's personal lives or question their character. I understand why the question has been asked, but it has been now and there is no need to obsess over it. I'm glad to see that everyone isn't just swallowing the information being given to us, but it has been taken a bit too far.

Nicko leaving was his own decision - his claim that he is upset because somebody mentioned an article that has been in the public domain for such a long time has me rolling on the floor. Similarly his pushing of the "DW takeover is good" line without any backup information is just not acceptable to me. BRFC has been a major part of my life for 3 decades and I will not meekly stand by when I fell it is under threat. I have not been shown one shred of evidence that this "takeover" will be in the best interests of the club and as such I will be anti until someone convices me otherwise. As such it makes me laugh when rhino-skinned journos are runoff messageboards by a few fans doing a little investigation and expressing an opinion.

I dont know if nicko is a PR plant but I still remain suspicious as to why he starts to post transfer titbits whilst covering the takeover - putting a v. positive slant on the prospective buyer and winning over the fans with a few bits of insider transfer information. Does nicko post on the fan boards of other clubs that he covers - bolton city everton? Do you think everton fans have forgotten his reporting in relation to the Rooney transfer?

I have only posted in the "Rovers Sold" thread and it is in that thread that talk of DW PR and nickos reporting was discussed. Nicko could easily have continued with the transfer topic and stop contributing to the "sold" thread if he felt upset with the way that topic was going. It was then his choice to moan on this topic and besmirch the reputation of long-standing posters to this site of good repute by suggesting they were jealous of his "profession" - and many of you have fallen hook line and sinker for it because he told us that RSC would be signing!!! Journolists and free lunches? Get real!

Nicko, your contribution to this forum has been amazing. It was because of "Nicko's Thread" that I actually joined up recently, so I, like many other true fans of the club could benefit from your posts into the transfer's involving Blackburn.

Thankyou for the generous time & effort you have put in, to giving us an insight on the recent transfers etc. It is a big shame that you will no longer be posting on here & I suppose we have to thank the tiny amount of pathetic jealous members who didn't agree with your input.

People have mentioned that "he is not a rovers fan & never will be" so what, who cares, I am not a United or Chelsea fan, but I am going to Wembley today to watch them because I love football (and also I want to see where I can get the best seat when Rovers reach the cup final this season!!.) Nicko didn't have to be a rovers fan, he is a FOOTBALL fan & he was sharing his information with us, for our benefit.

And there is the rub you gormless harpie..."You try to dictate views- Nicko didn't." My gripe is not at 'Nicko's thread' which has contained lots of excellent and accurate info as I have already stated cos by and large his input was usually a damned good read. But the real issue is his opinions posted on the 'Rovers Sold' thread re: the takeover / sale of the club. His attitude and comments on that subject do not rest easy with many on here. Mr Nixon himself (and not me Jan) imo has been the one most guilty of trying to 'dictate views' hence the heightened suspicions of Philipl, GM and Tris amongst many others (whom I spoke with at Deepdale).

So here you are Jan..... Nicko thanks for the excellent info and if you want to continue you should carry on with your dedicated thread and for the sake of your credibility stay well clear of the 'Rovers sold' thread.

Damage makes some points that are relevent to recent events and should be worthy of a reply. I just don't get it. Fine if you don't like Journo's. Fine if you, and others think Nicko is 'dodgy', but why take genuine pleasure in seeing someone have their 'feelings hurt'? Why want Nicko personally to be upset? I really can't see that he has done anything to warrent this type of response. This site has been a lot more interesting with this thread, and that isn't arse licky Theno, it's true. What really gets me annoyed though, is that the people against Nicko have made no effort to think of their fellow fans on here. If I thought Nicko was dodgy I just wouldn't read the threads, because I know how much other people appreciate them or after making accusations against Nicko, and letting my feelings known, I wouldn't keep going on and on about it. There is no evidence to suggest anything negative against Nicko, so once you have said your piece why keep repeating it? Unless anything new comes to light/you can prove your overly repeated points then it is pretty pointless and it is just used to push your opinions on to other people and spoil it for everyone else.

I think it says more about the likes of you Damage than Nicko, to see you reacting like this.

The point I think all of you have missed is that being sceptical about the potential sale doesn't mean that you have to insult someone who is providing news about it. Maybe he has been "planted", although it seems highly unlikely, but even if he has I am sure we are all quite capable of forming a solid opinion.
