Quick check and that was Gallagher and not Garner

there's interest for gallagher (although sheff weds might have cooled), mostly looking to loan him. i dont expect him to be at rovers after the window closes, (so long as none of our other forwards leave) - whether that's perminantly..... who knows.

The Franny Jeffers move to Sheff Wed has moved on. He met them, it went well, terms are agreed and he will play on Saturday.

Nicko, we heard when this dolloper joined us that he was on a 'pay per play' contract, as indeed was Dunny. Personally, I am deeply sceptical that such a term means what it says, i.e. such signings cost us very little in wages unless the player comes good. Jeffers turning down Ipswich for personal terms made me think he much have been on a decent wedge at Rovers. Can you shed any light on such alleged arrangements?

First time on the board since Nicko stated he was leaving as nothing else worth talking or reading about. Well glad your back Nicko. I shall be checking all the time now.

Great info on Lucas - just need Bellamy to get injured now! - Evil i know, but hey - i have a very strong disliking to West Scam now.

Amazing isn't it? He was hardly ever injured here yet he's been at West Ham for what, 7 months, and picked up 2 medium-term injuries.

Reminiscent of Tim Sherwood scotty. Virtual ever present for us but one injury after another plagued him at Spurs.

On Franny Jeffers...he came on a contract which was a basic wage and quite a hefty 'appearance' bonus.

The main snag will be getting a deal at Sheff Wed that means he is not taking a drop in pay - whether he plays or not. I have heard they are talking about £8,000-a-week basic which should cover it.

The last hurdle will be the possibility that he will ask Rovers for a settlement to go. I know that will mean screaming among his 'fan club,' but that is just negotiation. It happens.

In the end Rovers will have got a fee for somebody who cost them nothing except a wage. It's not a biggie either way.

PS I hear the Joe Garner move will be settled tomorrow. Probably Dundee United. Probably cash with a sell-on.

Just read on another board that Lucas Neill is out for 3 months, but it hasn't been confirmed by anyone at the club/official statement, so it may not be true. If it is, then Curbs could have a bad time this year, I've said it before that he seems to be signing really injury prone players, Bellamy, Faubert, Upson, Freddie etc etc and in going after Dyer, there is another one.

I haven't seen that-but I have seen that he has been made captain.

Bah! I don't want Garner to be sold off so quickly! Does Hughesy just not see any potential in him? It can't be because we're that hard up for cash that a few hundred thousand is so needed as to sell a promising youngster...Of course the sell-on could be exorbitant, but I'd doubt it..

Disappointing to see a youngster with promise sold off without a sniff of the senior side...

You don't really see many players make it back to the top divisions once they have been cast off by Premiership clubs, so I would have no problem trusting the judgement of the coaching staff regarding this issue.

Not wanting to slate or have a go at the young man at all but from what I've seen of Garner he doesn't seem to have any outstanding attributes that'll make him a Premiership striker. He's got a decent amount of goals at youth and reserve level but doesn't have a great deal of pace, physical presence or technical ability.

Have those of you who are worried about him leaving actually seen him play a few times? I haven't, so I'm not saying I'm more informed, but simply interested to see if this is purely based on his goal-scoring record or actually on what you think of his play.

I doubt most of us get to see any of the youth players often, if at all, but that doesn't mean people can't have an opinion on them.

The general opinion of Carlisle United fans was that he's destined to be a very good player, and they did see Jansen come through their team as a youngster so they may know what they're talking about. For the sake of a few hundred thousand, I think he's worth hanging on to for a couple of seasons. Surely, if we are thinking of selling him, a loan move to a Championship club would be wise first, so we could get a better idea of what he's made of.

By all accounts Derbyshire wasn't outstanding in the reserves, and it seemed his couple of loan moves helped immensely in his progress. I'd be quite baffled if we didn't give Garner the same opportunity for the sake of a few hundred thousand.
