Have those of you who are worried about him leaving actually seen him play a few times? I haven't, so I'm not saying I'm more informed, but simply interested to see if this is purely based on his goal-scoring record or actually on what you think of his play.

Ive seen him play a dozen or so times, and would be surprised if we let him leave. In my entirely untrained opinion he looks a better player than Derbs did. But then again, Derbs was at GHT when I first saw him.

Seems to be strong progress on the transfer market and it would be good to see Jeffers move onto Wednesday and off the wage-bill. Games for him are quite literally a no go for him at this stage, but if he's prepared to fight and do justice for his wage, then so be it.

However it will be sad to see young Garner leave on a permanent deal as we're lead to believe he had so much promise. I've never seen him, but his goal scoring ratio would have been quite similar to that of a young James Beattie when he was at the Academy.

A bit shocked that Fulham tried for young Lafferty at Burnley. Thought he was injured. Maybe our resident Lafferty expert could have some input on that one...

Don't know who the Lafferty expect is Nicko, but I'll give it a try!!

Was actually very surprised with Fulham making a move for Lafferty at this stage. I think Sanchez has done well with the players from Northern Ireland, but I feel another could endure heavy consequences for him. I know Lafferty would dearly love a move to Fulham and would be used as a backup to Camara, as he is of a similar style.

I can't see the initial cash fee offered would have been in excess of £1million, as no club would be really prepared to make such an offer for the striker as he hasn't been overly prolific in games/goals ratio. However, as it stands I'm sure Cotterill has quite a bit to play in this matter as he's been largely played out of position of the duration from last season.

He only sustained very minor knocks in pre-season and has run them off and currently stands a clean bill of health. Personally, I feel that with three offers knocked back for ths stiker (Celtic, Wolves, Fulham), then another in the region of £1.5 would land him. One final offer will be made within the remainder of the month is likely to be made. Maybe this money can go a long way with their £24million rehaul of the stadium/academy proposal.

If I find out any further news, then I'll keep you updated. Currently changing jobs, so haven't had as much free time as I would have liked.

I don't know about this Garner sale either. He's not very old is he? Perhaps trying to sell him a bit too soon or Sparky sees a big downside in his ability. I thuoght he was banging in quite a few for the level he was at. Maybe a good idea to loan him for a season and see what comes of it.

I would not be surprised if young Taylor went out on loan again, although the loss of Michael Gray and the injury to Bruno Berner makes that slot in the 'squad' a bit bare.

There were a few scouts at the ressies last night, Leeds United in particular, on the look-out for players. So I would expect some more news on that front soon.

Disappointing show by some of them at Stalybridge last night, but it's as much about physique and experience at that level as ability.

Young Barnett - from Liverpool - was neat and tidy, while the Danish kid Djeziri has technique. But both were given a hard time by non-league players. So the jury is still out.

And I definitely meant Joe Garner on the verge of moving, not Gally.

I'm at it now - what's the sketch with this Charlie Barnett then nicko? I thought he was a top top prospect? Why are Liverpool letting him go (it would appear)?

Charlie Barnett is a young midfielder, plays central, likes to pass and move in the old Liverpool style.

He was in their FA Youth Cuop winning side for two seasons running, but there is obviously a big queue ahead of him.

As far as I know he is a free agent...

Newcastle United had a look at him last week and he played for Rovers reserves last night.

I would not be sure that he will be signed, but he could stay on for a while - and get another game.

It was on the BBC and in the papers today, but the story originated from a sharp-eyed poster yesterday.

Cheers for the early shout again - and the Lucas Neill info.

I was told it was ankle ligaments but there is a suggestion it was knee ligaments.

Either way he is out for about two months.

I should know more about Di Santo - the Argentinian prospect - and Djeziri - the Danish lad who has been here for a fortnight.

Must say, I would not get over-excited about any of these in terms of first-team chances in the near future.

But there is a fair amount of forward planning going on. And you can't fault that.

Not wanting to slate or have a go at the young man at all but from what I've seen of Garner he doesn't seem to have any outstanding attributes that'll make him a Premiership striker. He's got a decent amount of goals at youth and reserve level but doesn't have a great deal of pace, physical presence or technical ability.

I don't really get the Garner love around here, unless it's based on the hype blowing around when he was going goal crazy for the U18s - which was a few years back. Garner hasn't really scored that many for the reserves like Gally did. On loan at Carlisle, whilst establishing himself as a regular, he did only score 5 in 17 (weaker than his diving ratio I'm led to believe).

This pre-season, apparently, he's been in a few hot-tempered clashes which could've resulted in red-cards in a competitive game, so his temperament doesn't seem great. And to cap it all off, he's a goal poacher and in Matt Derbyshire, we've got someone who can perform that role with a bit extra, in terms of his pace.

I'm really not, therefore, surprised that Hughes is happy to off-load. And I suspect Garner doesn't want to hang around playing 6th fiddle for the next few years.

If he is the player who I think it is, he has played for Liverpool since he was about 7. Very good player. Just a pity Liverpool academy seem intent of getting rid of all their English players and bringing in foreign kids.

If you want an amazing insight into how news starts and grows, just check the www.newsnow.co.uk website. Look at how many people jump on a story. Astonishing.

Follow the trail of the Charlie Barnett story. It started with a tip from somebody on your website yesterday and has gone bonkers inside 24 hours.

And all over some lad who played a game for the ressies and may or may not sign.

You learn something new every day.

Can I just say I'm jealous of the Rovers, Hughes buying shrewdly but buyng good, decent players whilst Sanchez is buying every Northern Irish player in English leagues, a failed attempt for Brunt and Lafferty, I fear for us next season.

Anyway back onto Rovers, I quite fancy ye for the League Cup and finishing around eight this season.

I'd quite like a fit Jimmy Bullard in our side.

we seem to be looking at youth players for the youth team or reserve team, rather then looking to bring players in for the full team...

bresicano's move to man city has stalled, maybe we could get in there..we need cover for central midfield and right wing, im sure he can play both...
