Charlie Barnett is a young midfielder, plays central, likes to pass and move in the old Liverpool style.

But there is a fair amount of forward planning going on. And you can't fault that.

Superb to read, forward planning going on at Rovers, no, you definitely cant fault it - tomorrows stars at todays prices !

Joe Garner update.

The young striker has been to speak to Dundee United and Carlisle United about where to go. It is a permanent move, around £150,000 and there would be a sell-on.

Nottingham Forest have taken a back-seat, I believe they have another striker ahead of him on their list and are close to taking him. It's a Premiership player on loan.

Lucas Neill seems to be knee ligament rather than ankle ligament. My West Ham mole has been mildly told off. Either way, he will be out for a wee while.

Why dont we give them eddie nolan, tony kane, keith tracey n de vita while were at it we obviously dont need our best young prospects anymore. Hughes selling the engilsh one and replacing them with foreign.

Bluebruce, it might be worth just looking back a page or two before asking a question that has already been answered. You're not expected to look through 100 pages for a story that was only in the press yesterday. Just try the previous page as I'm sure its on there.

Thanks for that, but being extremely low on time as I am right now, I thought it more prudent to look from posts on the actual day of the article, of which I quickly skimmed about three pages before giving up since I had to go offline. I also added another question in to hopefully avoid being repetitive (Which I managed). But thanks for the condescension ;) Cheers Nicko

Dont be daft. Matt Derbyshire? Would I be right in thinking that Paul Gallagher got his chance under M.H.? If not he has certainly given the lad plenty of opportunuties. Martin Olsen got a run out at Preston and Eddie Nolan played in the UEFA last season.

Anybody who is critical of Mark Hughes' tenure at Ewood is either a Dingle on the wind up or has rocks in their head.

Sorry, wasn't taking the mick out of you.

I meant the www.newsnow.co.uk website has about TEN different versions of the same story.

All started from one tip from a guy on the website, I picked it up and it went from there.

Cheers.

Hughes looks as if he is selling one of our English youth players ... is that enough evidence to suggest Hughes is selling our English youth players?

And I don't think Nolan, Kane or Treacey are English, they're Irish, aren't they?

Having said that, I'm surprised that Garner is going. Although the lower leagues are littered with former Rovers prospects thatw ere once highly-rated.

Joe Garner wouldn't be going for only 150k if he was good enough, would he?

I've always thought he was a good prospect but I think a lot of people on here are going on hype and reputation that has surrounded him for a couple of years now. As rover6 pointed out, Paul Gallagher actually had a superior record at his age. I'd like Joe to stay, just to see how he develops over the next year or two, but people doubting Hughes because they heard a few years ago that he could be "the next big thing" are not seeing things clearly.

But Martin Olsson isn't English he's Swedish! De Vita is Italian! Griffiths is Australian! Hodge is Scottish! Judge, Nolan and Treacy are Irish! Kane is Northern Irish (how long till Fulham bids for him?) Pezzoni is German! Nielsen is Faroese (??)

Gally is Scottish! Duff is Irish!

Woe is me, Brockhall isn't blessing and saving the queen! Burn the lot of them, HERETICS!!!!!

Gallagher got his chance under Souness and most notably set up several of Jon Stead's goals when we just avoided relegation. Was deemed to lightweight by Hughes and loaned out to Stoke in the 05/06 season where he enjoyed sucess with some spectacular goals. Was used as a squad player last season, but doesn't seem to be close to any regular starting spot.

Without a doubt a very gifted footballer with a footballing brain, and I've hear people compare him to Sheringham's style in that he can drop off, pick a pass and show good awareness. However unlike Sheringham who had great aerial ability as well, Gally is still for me too lightweight and needs time and space to flourish. Bentley showed last year it is possible to adapt to the physical demands of PL even though his game is based on skill. Hughes demand a physical edge from his players, which makes it hard for people like Gally to get a proper look in. Pedersen's career at Rovers was very much in balance after 4 months on the bench initialy. Took his chance by scoring when given his chance due to players out, and has never looked back since.

I'm sure Garner will end up a very useful lower league player, but still think he'll struggle to be the standard required for a good PL team. Neil Mellor at Liverpool and Michael Chopra at Newcastle spent years as freescoring reserve team players (which Garner really hasn't done), but they still was shipped out in the end. It's sad when young players you've heard about for years are sold, but it's part of the game. Besides Beattie, who else has come back to hunt us?

Exactly and he has all the info on him. The sell on clause is a wise move, if he does get his head together and plays as well in the first team as he has for the reserves. Only time will tell, but hughes knows a talent when he see's one so i'll let him have this.

I couldn't careless what nationalities we have in our youth team assuming they are good enough to play for the first team. I'd rather have 5 good foreigners, than 1 good english player coming through.

Nicko, do you think boro are going to sign anyone before the weekend ? All their key defenders are injured and now it looks like they are going to sell Yakubu. I can't beleive they are going to sell him a few days before the season starts without having another striker as a replacement.

Nicko, nice pic in the Mirror lol.

Who had the breaking news in there about Siname Pongolle going to spain... I read that about 3 months ago, not a great scoop to be fair.

You seem to be getting a few decent stories from this messageboard, Neill, the Liverpool Lad, the young lad in for a trial, forgive me if I'm wrong but havent they all originated from here. We're doing half your job for you ;)

Yeah but he has to write them, we do the easy bit :P Good to see boro struggling but you know they will beat us, even if they have to sign jeffers and play him as CB.

Nicko's next story is about purple cars! B)

Kane is Northern Irish (how long till Fulham bids for him?)

It's not going to happen. I know this was probably a 'sense of humour' joke, but Sanchez never really had a look at Kane and was never drafted into the senior squad as he had converged his alliance to ROI U21s. This was mainly to due Roy Millar (U-21 NI manager) fecking up his Milk Cup registration forms. Enough was enough and Mr Kane has done relatively well for our Southern Countrparts since his switch.

Exactly and he has all the info on him. The sell on clause is a wise move

Yeah and I suppose if he does move on then a similar amount of cash would come in handy like the beattie transfer 1-2 seasons back. Do you reckon that if we buy Beattie, then the club will get part of the sell-on clause amount!!

Sinama Pongolle only finalised his move yesterday. Honest. Check the French papers.

Ta for the rest of the leads. Always appreciated - and been acknowledged.

You are only as good as your contacts.

Boro are having a nightmare. I don't think they will sell Yakubu until they have a replacement.

And there is no sign of a centre half.

It's a bit chaotic up there just now.

Away win - the money is on already.

You wouldn't be told Nicko.

27 years and you still don't know the script?

Any chance we're any nearer on getting Francis out the door? Is the hold-up that we need his ears pinning for him to fit through it? Reverting a touch to the question somebody raised about Jeffers' wages. When you said he is on a standard wage, do you have any idea what that standard wage was in the region of? If we were only paying him 1k a week standard wage with say 10k appearance money I'd be a happy man. Especially if we can wrangle a sell-on clause into the sale too (I don't think Jeffers is all that bad, and in the Championship he might thrive enough to earn a couple million pound move back into the Prem...given the rates Championship strikers are going for now)
