We were having a discussion last week at the Cricket club saying we hadn't been to Auberge in ages and had heard it had dropepd off, so it's still decent Abbey aye?

May have to schedule a visit.

RE Olive Press

I have eaten at the Winckley Square branch often, and always found it excellent , if a little tame, even when it has been very busy. I went too the Manchester Olive Press the other week when I said on this thread I was going to Cafe Istanbul (Mrs changed her mind...), it was the Saturday before the the Manchester sprint thing (met Usain Bolt and his entourage) the service was another 10% up on any of my previous visits.

For the relatively unadventurous menu the prices are a tad OTT but, the current promo of half price pizza and pasta make it a bargain.

I still think DUK is one of the best restaurants in Lancashire but i visited Calypso this weekend and the food was absolutely spot on! It is under the Woodlands pub and specialises in Caribbean food. It was very different and a fun evening was had by all.

The chef Dave is very talkative and comes to meet all diners. He takes your ideas on board and is a really nice guy.

Hope is stays open.

Called at the Wheatsheaf in Croston yesterday coming back from Southport. Been here a few times now and the food is very good.

Very good food CLB but next time try the Grapes 200 yards further on. It's superb and busy every day of the year.

Anyone been to the Spead Eagle at Sawley?

Had lunch there last week which was nice, as was the place.

Apparently it was taken over about 12 months ago & refurbed.

Discussed and recommended just last night. Prob try lunch there cos taxi rates render it too far away for a proper 'neet aht'.

Had lunch there yesterday, was very good indeed. Lovely setting too. Only slight criticism is that the starters were too substantial, but for some people that would be a plus rather than a minus (and maybe I shouldn't have chosen deep fried black pudding fritters).

Spread Eagle at Sawley is a great restaurant.

I go every year for a christmas meal there, and its never let me down.

If you go try the English classics desert, you get a mini apple pie and ice cream, a mini trifle, mini strawberry mouse and something else, plus when yours arrives everyone else will be jealous.

Sorry boys, I know this is not in your neck of the woods, but last saturday at Shipwrights at Tom Ugly's (yeah that's the name of the bridge there. If you want to google the restaurant , put Blakehurst after the restaurant name) I had the famous Sydney Rock Oysters, natural, of course. Mains was Barramundi fillet, all washed down with a bottle of NZ Marlborough region Sav Blanc. If you find these wines on your bottle shop shelves, try one, they are very very nice, the ladies lerve this stuff.
