  1. 1. Should Steve Kean be sacked

Recommended Posts

Sadly it's not on Sky.

It's on in many countries around the World that take Barclays Premier League TV live feeds. The actual game is on here in Thailand and will be on in many other places. The protest will I am sure be a topic for their shows. The protest planned for Sunday has already had very good coverage out here on the talk shows, previews etc that BPL TV do - and they do a lot.

What get's me about this latest Keanism is that is nowhere near factually correct (although I suppose there's nothing new in that). Mr. K. is saying we are 3 or 4 points off a top 10 finish sort of start to the season. Forgive me if I'm wrong but 5 pts plus 3 or 4 makes 8pts or maybe 9 from 8 matches which seems to me to be a "just avoid relegation" sort of start. Generally speaking 50ish points are needed to get 10th at the end of the season - round about 11 points from 8 matches (2 years ago after 8 games we did indeed have 11 points and finished 10th) - i.e. we are 6 points adrift - not 3 or 4. For his spin, SK has roughly halved the deficit in points required for a top 10 finish. For his spin to make sense, SK would have to argue that we have had a tough start to the season. However as a rough guide I averaged out the league positions of the 8 teams we have played this season (before this weekends matches) and it came to 10th in the league - which seems to suggest that we have played so far a pretty mixed bag - some good - some not so good - but balancing out as a good sample of our rivals (Incidentally the 8 teams we had played at the 8 game mark 2 years ago again averaged out at 10th position).

"“We have a points tally in mind for us to finish in the top 10 and we are slightly off it at the moment but I would stress it is very, very slight."

He's mentally retarded.

A desperate and clueless man who will say anything to cover his own back. :angry

Are the only options: 1) mentally retarded; or, 2) desperate and clueless? What about a third, that he is a cynical manipulator?

Kean lies or, at a minimum, embellishes or exagerate greatly. I think everyone, even those who want to give him more time, have to concede that much. And to quote Abraham Lincoln, "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all the people all the time."

Kean is not dumb. He convinced the uber pragmatist, Sam Allardyce, to give him a job and look how that turned out.

He's lost the fans and he must know it. The vast bulk of the fans (all of the people) are no longer fooled. Assuming no hidden deals and everything is as it appears (a big assumption), to survive he has to keep the Raos onside. He has to hope that they are the "some of the people" who can be fooled all of the time. Which is why he tells bigger and bigger whoppers, quotes meaningless statistics, comes up with fantastical excuses, etc. He has to convince his marks to continue to give him one more game, one more week, one more chance.

I'm liking this theory more than my paraniod fear that there is a plan to destroy the Rovers of a mere few hours ago. If there was some secret agenda/plan, then there would be no need to make these increasingly bizzare statements. Kean and the Raos could go about their business, appear contrite, but keep soldiering on. The fact that Kean feels the need to make continuous ridiculous statements indicates that he is trying to convince someone. If not the fans, it must be the owners.

The Raos need to heed Robert Brault's advice, "Cherish the friend who tells you a harsh truth, wanting ten times more to tell you a loving lie." The Raos need a strong manager, with a spine, who will live and die by his results. A manager like that (Hughes, MON, Allardyce) will tell them like it is, not the way they would like it to be. Ditto Tom Finn and JW. The Raos need to hear some hard truths, and I hope the Rovers supporters at tomorrow's game are able to communicate one of those necessary truths; to survive relegation, Kean Out!

A lap of honour for what, exactly? Losing most of his games since he's been in charge? Neither him nor the team deserve a "lap of honour" and if they dare try it I hope they get the reception they deserve.

What pisses me off the most is how he insults the fan's intelligence with all the crap he comes out with - which must be for the owners' benefit, because no one in their right mind could take him seriously. He speaks about top ten finishes when we're far likelier to get relegated this season than reach the top-half.

To sack him they would first of all have to identify a replacement and reach agreement with them to come in as soon as Kean is sacked. Because you can't put a caretaker in charge - who would you pick as caretaker? Clement? Brunskill? Mimms? The backroom staff just has no requisite experience. Mind you, maybe Ian Brunskill works long hours, works well with younger players and loves his Mum.

This would be a problem since I don't think that Wenky's have decided to bin Kean if he loses to Spurs. What seems to be the case is that the Dragon Lady wants to wait until we're cast adrift of the other teams and then she'll sack him.

It's further confirmation of the desperate straits we're in. Because if we're going to wait that long then whoever comes in will need to be absolute dynamite in turning it round with a squad that, to be fair, is one of the worst in the division. I don't think that's an exaggeration. It would also have to be someone who's unemployed because of the reasons stated above and also because I don't think the Wenky's have sufficient money to put in. Maybe we could sell another player in January and use that income to sack Kean and get someone competent in.

You can forget all this crap about "I won't let the club go down" and all the other gubbins. It's just so much hot air. Be their fruits ye shall know them.

That's good. Sadly not much use to me in London though

And yet people on here don't realise that out of the 20,000 or so that go to Ewood every other week; a messageboard community IS a minority.

Which means the poll is pretty much pointless and proves shag all.

"so you're saying Rovers fans want him as our manager!!?"

Some do, yeh. But unless you have a mass petition on the gates at Ewood we'll never know who is right in their opinion.

Ps. Can we close this thread and start yet ANOTHER pointless poll?

“The owners have been very strong in backing what we are trying to do.”

Ohh God please no, I long for a day when the manager of Rovers does'nt have to lick the owners arse every interview he does.

People think the owners summon Kean to go over, it's the odious little creature of a boss we have having to go over and explain his utter idiocy as to why we are the worst team in the league.

Comparing himself to Fergie and soggy saggy chops shows borderline insanity, he should'nt be sacked......he should be committed and Topman that is class.

Lets hope that they're not as strong anymore now, they have been backing him yes, but at one point they surely must realise the troubles they are getting their club-investment-project in! If I had bought a Premier League club, I wouldnt really accept being 20th place. The usual tradition in this league is to sack in situations like this and it happens every season and often those clubs get in a new man and things changes around and results improve. West Ham made the big mistake last season of keeping Grant instead of sacking him halfway through, had they done that and appointed Big Sam, they would not be in the Championship now.

I really hope Venkys wont make the same mistake! It is not too late for a change!

Knowing our luck Rovers will win tomorrow allowing Kean to do a lap of honour around the pitch in front of the owners (he's a devious toad, the lap of honour if it happens with the owners there will solidify his position). Kean is then told he is under no threat until January. Rovers then proceed to lose the next 3-4 games.

The cycle then repeats.
