  1. 1. Should Steve Kean be sacked

Recommended Posts

It's been very easy to get caught up in all the Anti-Kean stuff over the past couple of months. It is only when you sit down and consider our position that you realise just how bad it is. And it is a sobering thought. Kean's talk of bad luck, getting into better defensive shape and getting the rub of the green can probably keep a few lazy pundits happy but not the fans - not even Venky's would dare to defend this now. It is well passed the point of giving him another game, how unfortunate we were and talking about all the great football we were playing. As it stands we will be going into November having played 3 months of the season and having won just once from 10 games.

I have also found myself resigned to relegation. However, when it comes to May I want it to be with our heads held high and Kean's reign a distant memory.

Come on Rao family, you abolsute disgrace - you were quick enough to get rid of Big Sam, what's holding you back.

Something beyond just football is holding them back. As for what... I'm not sure I want to know.

The other three teams around us are possibly as bad (if not worse) than us. Bolton, going back to last season, have had as bad a run as we have. Wolves look very poor and the fans are very quick to get on the managers back during the game. Wigan, although playing pretty football, can't buy a win. It could end up between these 3 clubs, Rovers, and maybe the 3 teams that came up.

When we consider how the team has played throughout any given match, as a coach, manager, critice etc. the considerations simply cant be how we played going forward, or defensively, its about the team, how they set themselves up, close people down, work hard, defend, attack etc. In my opinion, yesterdays performance wasnt too far from the mark, probably all round (given a couple of pieces of bad luck) our best performance of the season.

However, a side in our position in the league table play to that kind of level and fails to win the game, we have problems, good sides can be battered, yet have the resiliance and mindset to hold on to the game and come away with the points.

We have seen the top three of four clubs nick goals in the last minute despite their opponents being the better team on the day, it happened during our 1995 campaign, Newcastle at home being a prime example and thats why we won the league, we were able to grind out results despite not, in peoples opinion, being the better team.

On the other hand, Blackpool at home last season, we got the rub of the green, despite being outplayed, Blackpool were relegated,

they played super football as did Burnley, West Ham WBA,and others who were relegated in previous years, my opinion is that Rovers are going down that route, play good stuff, attack well, score goals but in doing so we conced far too many goals and we are unable to produce the kind of resilant performances we produced under Souness, Hughes and Allardyce.

Its getting too late to do much about things now, I notice some of the predictions are for 3 points against Swansea, Bolton, Wigan

and even a point against Stoke, the results to date show that this may be wide off the mark, we have only got 6 points now and the pressure becomes greater, indecision and nerves will begin to play a huge part in the games, snatching at chances and the ball given away very cheaply, we are in deep mire and unless we are able to address the manger situation very quickly, we will be down by christmas!

Even worse when you consider Kean has recently said that we need to tighten up in defence, which we have been working on. Well the result of that work has been seen this past week.

Sometime credit has to be given when due. The team played well v norwich. But yes a bad ref call at for Norwich penalty equaliser, cost Rovers the 3 points. Thing is, Norwich should have had a penalty early on - so it could be said things evened up.

For me Kean still has to go. Because it is not about the result yesterday. But his overall record at Rovers. Matches as well as the alledged stuff behind the scene etc etc.

But sadly venkys are in my view cowards. Kean must have some hold on venkys to stop them making the call to sack him.

Venkys should sack Kean and deal with anything Kean may say or not afterwards. But they are to afraid to do the right thing.

Whilst I totally agree that yesterday's performance was a massive improvement on recent weeks, the facts remain the same - we have 6 points! He has to go! Yes, we played well wednesday, yes we did well yesterday, but the fact is we can't hold on to a lead, had Wed been a league game we would've thrown away 2 points by conceding twice in injury time!

Yesterday, 3-1 up and cruising, what does the muppet do, makes a double substitution!! Why!?! We're comfortable. Next thing we've got Rochina (I think it was - correct me if I'm wrong)####ing about with the ball 35 yards from goal, gets disposessed and they get slightly lucky with the deflection. Bottom line, if (as would've been Sam's instructions)the brief had been to hoof the ball downfield, they wouldn't have scored. Unlucky maybe, an individual error maybe, poor tactics with 8 mins to go, more likely.

The penalty, never in a month of sundays, but again, if Nzonzi had been playing to the whistle and keeping his eye on the ball, rather than flailing his arms around appealing for a free kick, it would never have happened. To me it's the mindset the players have got into.

Play to the whistle, protect your lead going into the last 10 mins, don't give the ball away, clear your lines - this comes from the manager! Taking luck aside, someone like Fergie or Mancini would be fuming with his players for the circumstances leading up to those 2 pieces of 'bad' luck. Both preventable.

Kean out!!

Sad story truly.

You know the situation is a very hard one and I will do my best to put my thought's across to you so you may feel better as I have two very good sides to the story.

1) This is my side, I have followed Rovers for a long time ever since my dad used to sneak me in under his coat and I got hooked and always considered it my family club, since Venky's took over they have distanced the club away from it's fans and gave the stewardship to a man that really has nothing but contempt for it's fans, sooner or later we all know the club is going to go down and hit the hard times under this mans and owners stewardship. Having acess to the internet and twitter you tend to see the bigger picture and the clubs underlying problems which causes massive concern you feel you have to do something about it hence the protests and banners.

2) The other side of the coin is the guy's like my dad they dont think about Rovers every day nor do they check twitter or websites to see if anything is rumbling behind the scenes, I'm not saying they are lesser fans or do not have the same love for the club as the guys in 1) but they are able to detach their thoughts until match day where they only see the performance on the day and to their eyes everything apart from our league postion is rosy enough and it's not all longball like it was under Sam and sooner or later we will be lucky and pick up some results. Now I'm not sying my word is gospel i'm just giving an alternative, if I was to explain to my dad about Jerome Anderson's involment in the club my dad would say how good was Hoiletts goal, if I was to say yes but Hoilett will be leaving due to him not signing a new contract he would say how it took him ages to get out of the traffic to get home.

The massive conflict between most and is even confusing the press was on it's greatest show today, there are plenty of plaudits for Kean and people feeling sorry for him with his bad run of luck and how the players are certainly giving their all for Kean, nobody had questioned why the fans did'nt want Kean until today, Every pundit I have heard since the game has commented on his bad choice of timing and subs, little things like this can cost you the game and they know that, now while the players are playing for him he wont be sacked but if he keeps on making decisons like the ones he did today that cost us the game it wont be long before the players wont try at all.

I missed this first time round.

An excellent observation and very true. I think I've actually had that JA conversation! Different generations perhaps? It does seem that those against the protests are the ones longer in the tooth (personal observation). Maybe they've seen it all before, or maybe they have bigger worries in their lives and just don't want the hastle.

Anyway, great post beerwins.

Something beyond just football is holding them back. As for what... I'm not sure I want to know.

This can be the only reasonable explanation in my opinion.

There is no other logical reason that he should still be here.

If he was going to be sacked surely after the Man City game would have been the time to do it. We've actually resembled a half decent side since then and if the owners fully backed him after the Man City game there opinion has probably not changed much since then. Although I get the feeling we could lose 10-0 to Chelsea next weekend and Steve Kean would still probably be in charge. The appointment of Clement has assistant manager also backs this up, why let a manager pick a new assistant if you thinking about getting rid of him. Probably not what we all want to hear but I believe it seems an accurate state of affairs at present.

I like many others want Kean out, but it is looking increasingly likely we have got him for the duration ...He should have been gone long since !!!

But , who would take over ? Hughes ,Rafa , M oNeil , I suspect will not work for the Venkys and they (venkys ) will not pay the salaries that a proper management team will demand ..

Not only is Kean a poor manager but he is unlucky , or is it bad management how many goals conceded late in last 10 mins ?? Everton , Arsenal ,Newcastle 2 , Norwich 2 , personally I do not think some of the players can last 90 minutes .That is bad management , something not right in the training methods ..

I am preparing for relegation along with Wigan and one other ...

I just do not think that Kean is competant enough to save us ..Also suspect 35 points will be enough this year ,some poor teams around ..Mark Hughes , would keep us up with ease ..

He's going nowhere! The V's have him on relegation bonus, they pocket the chute payments , they pocket sambas money in jan, they pocket fire sale in July , we go bust , they sell ewood as its not needed ,brockhall too.... They make a mint and venkys is famous and a brand name. .. Either that or the rumours prove correct.

I'm very close to calling it a day until Kean has gone.

I can no longer support the way the club is being ran. We are a joke in the football world. Even Newcastle couldn't match our joke status these days. I've been disappointed with the amount of people not willing to protest. There won't be a club left soon...

i am truly amazed at the amount of people not willing to protest! if we had a full ground protesting it could achieve so much more as far as making a point, it will force kean to answer questions which he can't answer with "its a minority"

people not protesting because they think it affects the team? 1 win in 10 league games? and we protested the day of the 1 win, how can things get any worse, results wont improve if people stop protesting, results will improve when steve kean is removed

its time everyone stood up and fought back against the current situation which nobody can say they are happy about

All those things are not the rumours? Are there rumours of worse things happening?

Everything you say sounds feasible but if they took a founder member of the league out of existence surely there would be a massive backlash? There's no such thing as bad publicity is just not true - ask Gerald Ratner.

I think this is a really good post. Only thing I disagree with is that if we get a decent manager there is a run of games after Chelsea that could kickstart everything and get us up the table quickly.

I want him out, but I have given up hope of this happening before we're doomed. The BBC were singing his praises, or at least saying the players were fighting for him against Norwich. He'll be here for a while yet.

My cynical side says the press and pundits will sing Kean's praises until the last as: 1) he's backed by SEM/Kentaro and they're either clients or want to do interviews with their clients; and, 2) they suspect he'll relegate us, thereby making way for a "bigger" club. All in all, Kean's relegating us but being praised all the while is a win-win for them.

Massive backlash from who,and what exactly.

No one out there in the football world gives a toss about Blackburn Rovers,so its up to the fans and I think we have seen the level of protest the fans are prepared to get involved in,a few hundred.Thats the reason Jerome Anderson is sat with his feet firmly in the driving seat,Blackburn are an easy target with little to no resistance from the fans.

Protest should be spontaneous angry and during the game from all sides of the ground, but it ain't going to happen at Blackburn.
