[Archived] Rover Til I die

"Within 24 hours I found myself receiving threats about my safety but more worrying the safety of my family. Other protest Organisers were also receiving similar threats, yet at all previous protest there had been no confrontation with any supporter. Previously I had not received any emails, phone calls, text or tweets regarding my safety."

I though I smelt a rat here, sure these calls were set up, and who could prove it on this day and age.

Great blog Glen. Have similar memories of when I was younger and going over(from Ireland) to see Rovers play. I also remember going to to Ewood during the summer and walking around the stadium and managing to get one of the staff to let me on the pitch for a minute. It made my day. If I was a kid today I'd probably get a kick up the arse for even asking. The family may be gone but they'll never be forgotten to me.

Great read as ever Glen.

It reminded me of trying to get those footballs they kicked out, never did manage it!

I got one, bloody thing wasn't signed though! I still have it though, it is a fossilised blue and white McEwans Lager football.

I can't understand why they stopped doing it, it was so exciting! Definitely should be brought back along with the schools penalty shoot out competition.

They always used to throw sweets into the crowd too. I remember one match where they threw Mars Applause chocolate bars into the stands and me and my mate absolutely filled our pockets with them.

Against Watford i think, most of them ended up goin back on the pitch in the direction of their keeper lol

The mars inciedent was mentioned by David James last week.

He played in the game when they handed them out, he stated that he was abused for his colour and the crowd threw the chocolate bars at him in the home end.

Load of rubbish, we threw them as he was playing so badly for Watford.

We would all have to wear high vis jackets and hardhats if they wanted to start launching footballs at the crowd again. I agree though it was excellent!

Yes i dont remember anything untoward it was just 1 of those daft random things that sometimes used to happen. Any oppo keeper would have got them chucked at him as indeed did the people who were throwing them to the crowd, there was no venom in it i dont think. Anyway goin a bit off topic lol

How weird, I've never really thought much about it but that sounds vaguely familiar.

I still maintain that I jointly re-introduced throwing fistfulls of paper into the air at Rovers. I used to spend ages filling a carrier bag with the stuff. It looked ace and really added to the feel of the place back then. I don't think kids can be arsed nowadays though but would love things to go a bit retro again. :brfc:

Venkys out loo rolls? Not sure izal still do them, though. Plus it'd give the protest bashers a field day. I think, as Glen has mentioned, it's time for a tad more subtlety now.

Heartfelt stuff Glen, however for your average fan- the fans that get their info from the LT, MOTD and Sky, WE are increasingly being seen as the enemy.

Kean? 'Get off his back, he deserves more time, we have turned a corner'

Venky's? 'we are stuck with them, but anyway at least they spend money (!?!?!)'

Protesters? 'Embarresment, making the club a laughing stock, get behind the team'.

These opinions are reinforced by the media- Dan Clough's Telegraph column, those no nowts on Match of the Day, the vested interests of the Soccer Saturday panel.

This club has been divided and will soon be conquered.

If anybody is receiving threats etc, there is only one way to respond. Legally. Gather all the evidence and report it to the Police. Don't go down the road of confrontation - after all nobody wants to be banned from ewood park etc. These threats must be exposed. They may in themselves prompt an investigation from the prem etc.

Incidently who do people believe these threats are coming from Venkys, the club, Kean?????

Lot of sense there Matty. My hackles have been raised so it's not in my nature to just go away quietly now, not sure on how to proceed though. With the international break etc maybe won't do any harm to sit on hands for a week.
