Or perhaps we just aren’t good enough because so many of our better young lads are in the first team squad, that’s certainly not the case for the Man City’s of this world… so good job we won’t get relegated out of the top league as a result of it, no?

The amount of youngsters in the first team squad is down to being able to name 9 subs. I think what is more relevent are the player we have let leave the club. A lot of those players were the ones that put in the hard graft because they weren't quite good enough.

Although we didn't play well we should have won given the number of presentable chances we missed (sounds familiar doesn't it) including a penalty miss by Gilsenan. Although Leonard scored an earlier penalty he should have scored a couple more and although his movement to find space and running in behind is good it's clear he needs more work on his finishing. There were three penalties in total and Sheffield United missed theirs and to be fair they also missed some decent chances. I think the point is coming where decisions will need to be made on some of the squad and in truth I don't think many of them will make it here. Batty was sent off for two yellow cards but I couldn't tell what the first one was for. His second was a rash challenge and deserved.

Leonard isn't ready for the amount of football he currently gets at first team level and it only further adds questions to why we bothered with Ennis.

Batty seems to have not kicked on as expected. Broughton talked about not signing a left back because they didn't want to block Batty's progression this summer. I suspect it really was a case of "the owners have slashed the budget so much we can't afford one." In the last 2 games, for 30 minutes at Norwich (factoring in the need to have Pickering elsewhere) and for the game against Preston, had Batty been deemed to be ready to play in the Championship he would surely have played when we had no other left backs, rather than having to stick Travis there and move Brittain.

Unsure what the situation is with Gilsenan, surprising he can't currently make the bench considering its essentially just kids.

Batty ran out to warm up when Travis went down with that injury in the second half against PNE (did he end up in the advertising boards?).

Garrett was summoned over from his warm up by JDT for a chat - then jogged back down the sideline. From the way he interacted with Batty (who clearly repeatedly asked Garrett what JDT had said), it was clear Batty was not an option to replace Travis if he couldn't continue.

Back level. Tyjon, the lad who came on for Wood. Nicely taken really, left everyone for dead taking it on the turn at halfway, didn't score first time but notched the rebound.

We signed him from Rochdale in the summer, Newcastle and Brighton had been sniffing. The commentator just said he's 15 I think, but the articles I find from the summer say he was 16 then.

Think our best players so far have been Edmondson, Tyjon and Bloxham. Bloxham has tidy feet, although he is sometimes a little over keen to show them off.

Commentator just said again that Tyjon is 15, everything online seems to say 16 back in June though. Either way, at that age he could be one to watch, but especially if he's only 15.

Enjoyed the game, Rovers did well for 75 mins then seemed to run out of legs and PSV finished much the stronger.

Agree about the lad Tyjon, seems to have something about him, although maybe not  the quickest.

At his age, could still get a little quicker yet.

Well I thoroughly enjoyed watching last night's game. We were really competitive which I feared we wouldn't be after the early PSV goal,  early injury to Harrison Wood and our rock bottom league position.

PSV are different class up front and could have had far more than the 5 they got but equally they could be got at at the back and we could have scored more than our 3.

Cannot see any of last night's group pushing for first team starts soon but they played a lot of neat competitive football much of the time and the JDT philosophy was clearly on view.

And the two mid teenagers- Michalski in goal and Tyjon- are exceptionally promising if they can develop from where they are.

i guess both outfits were affected by international call ups. The PSV number 10 really caught the eye.
