Lowest first home attendance of all four Lancashire clubs in the league.

Aye a bit surprised PNE got more than us but Wigan were playing Sheff Weds, so how many did they bring 3-4,000 ? against 851 from Millwall.

We're now one of the smaller clubs even in this league attendance wise...It took us decade's to average just 20k.

This is a league now full of city clubs, so as attendances have risen across the board, a lot of these clubs have big catchment areas to pull from.

And just as attendances started to rise across England our fan base was being  decimated under Kean, this coupled with our small catchment area and it is going to be a slow process for us.

The city clubs are in this league because the smaller clubs are in the Premier League - Bournemouth, Burnley, Watford, Huddersfield, Fulham, Palace - the ones who used to be Championship regulars. 

Goes to show that crowds don't matter when getting promoted.

15k a week should be the target for us in the 2nd tier.

Likes of Middlesbrough were down around 13000 a week when our manager was managing them. Their crowds have shot up because they've been having the good times. A few years of what we've been through since 2014 and they'd be back down there again.

Not sure anymore, league crowds over the past few years generally are at the highest they’ve been in this country since the 1950s/60s. It’s a new golden age in many ways, our decline was just terribly timed.

Plus, most clubs now leaving the PL retain most of their support - Stoke, WBA and Swansea as examples- ours collapsed overnight and haven’t come close to recovering.

Yes but those clubs are 3 good examples - Stoke, WBA and Swansea - none are traditionally well supported clubs, particularly not Swansea - all 3 will get decent gates this season because there's some excitement or anticipation around those places. After many years in the Premier League as small clubs fighting relegation most seasons people will be up for a year where they are favourites and expecting to win every week and fans will be expecting entertainment. If they get stuck in this league and end up floating around in mid-table or bottom half their gates will plummet. Middlesbrough have had 2-3 near misses under Karanka, then promotion, then a Premier League season, then another play-off campaign and following that have spent massive amounts again under Pulis and are favourites to go up, no wonder their fans are turning up at 20000+ a week. Swap our last 5 years for theirs and they'd be down at 14,000 I'm sure.

The small clubs seem to be surviving in the PL - Watford, Burnley, Bournemouth etc, so city clubs with decent sized fanbases are getting relegated into this league most years.

The Championship of 2001 contained a lot of traditionally small clubs - Grimsby, Stockport, Port Vale, Tranmere, Gillingham, Walsall, Crewe, Wimbledon etc so our standard crowd of 17,000 or so was very competitive as even the city clubs pulled in similar numbers to us.

Fast forward to now and the league is full of lots of those city clubs, but for many of them their crowds are much higher- 20,000+ all the way up to 35,000, whilst ours have declined from that era.

Doesnt mean we can’t compete, but it is a vastly different league than it once was.

Wasnt sure where to put this, but basically, Chorley don’t want people drinking in Chorley before games at Wigan or Bolton. I can’t speak for Wigan as clearly, but that train station at Horwich Parkway is an absolute trek from the away pub at Bolton’s ground...

I wonder what the reaction would be if Chorley council had sent a letter to any other group of people telling them they are not welcome in their town. Say a religious group, or other such gathering of people. Because to all intents and purposes the result is the same - a large group of people gathering with a common identity/interest. Don't see why this is any different to a mass gathering of religious people or other 'group' in society.

Once again football fans are targeted by the 'authorities' who are quite happy to reap the benefits of football and football fans but think they can dictate to them what happens. Believe it or not it is a free country and unless there is some sort of curfew in place I don't see who can stop football fans turning up for a drink in Chorley.

I don't understand what the Council think they can do about it. They have no power at all to turn football fans away. Nobody does until someone breaks the law.

Publicans can refuse anyone to enter their pub.

However, it will ironically be them that suffer most of their weekly footfall vanishes.

“Football fans” can be idiots at times though - especially in groups drinking.
