Was that at New York Cosmos?

I loved Tony Field.

I was wandering through TK Maxx one day and I came across a replica of the New York Cosmo’s shirt that Pele wore in the 1970’s. All white with a proper sewn on number 10. It was just my size so I had to have it. A week or two later I came across the green away shirt so I had that as well.

El País, Spain's biggest paper, has an article on Ben Breton today.  Here is the original article:

https://elpais.com/deportes/copa-america-futbol/2021-06-29/ben-brereton-el-necesitado-gol-ingles-de-chile.html

Here is the same article in English from a different source:

Ben Brereton: Chile's (Needed) English Goal

https://pledgetimes.com/ben-brereton-chiles-needed-english-goal/

My favourite line from the English translation:

"He lost bellows, presence and his place in the youth teams of England."

Oh yeah, he lost bellows alright!

when i read the English language article it quickly became obvious it was some sort of Google-Translate lazy copy-paste writing from the original El Pais spanish article.  The spanish word used for "bellows" is fuelle and it is one i have never heard in my life, most likely an iberian word not used in latin america.  I don't even know what a bellow is in English, lol.

"He lost steam" or "He lost momentum" would have been better, but again, Google Translate.

What would Tony be worth today. Sad day when he left for Sheffield United.

I still tell my kids about some of his goals. I think this was my third Rovers bereavement-after Newton and Knighton.

As a certain, octogenarian songwriter might say, "I used to care, but ..things have changed."

Same for me, but with Eamon Rogers thrown in.

I can claim to have seen Tony Field play for 4 different clubs - Southport, Rovers, Sheffield United and New York Cosmos.

I always felt a particular connection to Tony Field. Whilst Rovers were always my first team, growing up in West Lancs and Southport playing on Friday nights I often went with mates. Then he moved to Rovers and then to Sheffield at the time I moved there to university (although Wednesday were always my team there). Then I got to see him in New York when visiting my brother-in-law.

A bellows is like an old school manual pump to pressure air (into an air bed for example). Not sure it's a word that fits.

Bellows are manual pumps for pumping air into a church organ or a blacksmith's forge.

So BB ran out of wind or puff.

4th - Eamonn Rogers

Rogers became disenchanted with Rovers who were heading for relegation and Eddie Quigley, the manager, told him to play right full back. That was something unheard of in those days for an attacking creative midfielder to go into defence. He was that disillusioned that Rovers couldn't wait to get rid of him.

He went to Charlton Athletic but his career didn't improve there where he picked up a bad injury.

A very disillusioned man who refuses to talk about his footballing days even today.

He was still a hero to me.

He had it all, he could have been anything he wanted to be. I saw him playing at right back, he looked like he was playing in an armchair, he was a natural.

I'm curious to know if there is any other championship player with a bigger social media following than Ben. He's just surpassed 800,000 on Instagram!

No way. That's mental. He must have gotten about 700,000 followers since the Copa America?

I've watched it go from 300,000 to 800,000 within a few weeks. Crazy numbers!

Brilliant. I was asked today, which other Rovers player was Field most like. I can’t think of anyone, in the same mould, can you?
