Proof that MONEY or greed is so dominate in our society, that people will sink to any low to get it....

Love is the only reason I would ever be with another, the rest is irrelevant.

Harsh. He seems like a nice bloke, and my hot lodger I used to have thought he was the only one on my Rovers calendar she was interested in.

It's also just as shallow to attach that much importance to her good looks as it is to his money. She could be a terrible person with a boring personality.

Sorry, but I think that's really low for this place. We're assuming his wife and mother of his child is a gold-digger on the basis that she's attractive?

Didn't realise we had Andrew Tate types.

deffo agreed Mike 10000%

Yeah, my paraphrased quote was from Mrs Merton ( Caroline Aherne ) when she was interviewing Paul Daniels wife. Was she a misogynist ?

It's the sense of humour (or lack of) that gets them, everytime.

It didn't come across as a joke, it legit came across as misogyny. Not all of us would understand that's a 'paraphrased quote' from a character, and if I'm being honest even this explanation comes across as a clumsy excuse for a genuinely held view.

Benefit of the doubt, I suppose.

Did you never see the clip Mike ? It’s been played to death over the years. Debbie McGee ( Daniels wife ) saw the funny side of it even if you don’t.

You're conflating, and using it to pretend I've no sense of humour.

To conclude:

Mrs Merton - Funny.

Saying BBD's wife is a gold-digger without reason (and without any contextual reference given to a Mrs Merton clip) - definitely not funny.

When the context is given afterwards - benefit of the doubt.

I agreed with your original post  (although I’m not convinced referencing Andrew Tate was necessary) about people being out of line but I think it’s very unfair of you to include Tyrone in this.

Put it this way, why is Mrs Merton funny (no context needed) but Tyrone needed to give context?

They’re both suggesting (as an attempt at humour ) that someone is with someone else because of their money - neither Mrs Merton, or dare I say, Tyrone, really thinks this.

Equally, not finding a joke funny doesn’t automatically = someone’s being (in this case) misogynistic.

I imagine you can tell that the rush to ‘label’ things really irritates me.

Maybe I’m just getting old…

Rant over…
