Thats factually incorrect. Only Pukki, Abraham, Maupay, Gayle, Sharp, Rodriguez, McBurnie, Adams and Bowen scored over 20. To compare, Dack and Graham our front 2 got 15 goals each. Derby got in the play off final and their top scorers were Wilson on 15 and Waghorn on 9. Leeds top scorers were Roofe with 14 and Pablo with 12.

Then there's that time we didn't even make the play offs with TWO strikers who passed the 20-goal mark.

downing is due in for talks.. ive lost patience

Didn't you post something the other day about how you would be patient for at least X amount of time?

Instead a day or so later you've given up because of one rumour. Come on Adam, you seem a good lad but you do jump from one extreme to the other like this a lot. Be patient mate, let's see how it all actually pans out.

While you make good points, it feels a bit different to last Summer. Mowbray’s India trip doesn’t seem to have gone particularly well, with some negative sound bites from TM.

However, we DO need to replace Palmer, Reed and Rodwell though (although Mowbray may feel that Chapman has already replaced Palmer).

Didn't last year's India trip actually get cancelled or something? Maybe I'm misremembering. There was also lots of excessive pessimism about what we were going to spend, very early into the window. I don't remember anything from TM last year implying we were going for it. Sounds very like last summer so far (maybe better if I'm right about the India trip).

Let’s see.

I don’t remember Mowbray openly talking about selling players, and specifically Dack. More about him having money to spend but also having to convince Desai not to throw the family silver at it and instead build more slowly. It was certainly more encouraging.

That’s a happy coincidence, as he wouldn’t come here for 7k a week!

IF we do get Downing, that’s not going to be the sum total of our transfer business. We definitely need a winger in my opinion, and while I might have preferred someone likely to start more games, surely he isn’t as bad a signing as some or making out.

Same age as Conway but...

35 England caps V 7 Scotland Caps

38 Champ appearances last year V 21

Former clubs Liverpool, Villa, West Ham  V Ayr, Dundee and Cardiff

And lets not forget, Conway was offered a deal he didn’t fancy, so to say we shouldn’t have ‘got rid of him’ is a bit wide of the mark.

Yes, Downing will likely be offered a better deal than Conway... and rightly so.

All depends what context a signing likes this would be delivered under...

Gallacher in, Downing in, rest as you were but with Dack out = Meh !

As above but with a quality defender and maybe another quality player somewhere - Fair enough.

Keep everyone, Gally in on loan, good defender signed and Downing - Yep that's building, maybe not everyones cup of tea but it's still strengthening.

Dack sold and only Downing, Fielding, and another couple similar in =  Alarm bells !   F'ck right off  Venkys, Waggot, Mowbray and the rest !

But paying him 20/30k pwk which they'd likely have to even if it's short term is an abomination, add up the wedge of him, Gladwin and another couple of expendables and you could be paying a very good player, even if it's short term.

Give it a rest, lets sign shearer on that basis, hes still better than downing at 45 or whatever he is. Fuck me didnt realise your club history made such a difference, in that case surprised rochina wasnt the next messi, bet you thought he was going off your logic.

Consistently average at putting the ball in the net ten plus times every season which is what strikers are there for and he'll cost a lot to replace the fact we are being linked with strikers shows you big Ben isn't that man.

I think you underestimate Ben Brereton, and overestimate Danny Graham.

DG a good player for any team in the bottom half of the Championship... but never going to get us higher.

BB could, maybe, get us there, and that’s worth the risk.

Theres absolutely no evidence whatsoever to back this up

O'Kane at Leeds worth a shout

Based on what evidence? A career record 1 goal in 6 appearances by age 28?

Scoring no goals in 56 appearances for Leeds?

Playing on loan 3 times for Luton?

Give what a rest exactly? Should I become absolutely hysterical at the prospect of being linked with someone, write him off before he’s even signed... let alone kicked a ball, and get all misty eyed about a player who the vast majority said was past it 72 hours ago but now seems to have inexplicably taken on legendary status?

If your reading of my post leads you to conclude that those are my thoughts on former clubs, try again without what I can only assume is blind rage clouding your judgement. I was pointing out that Downing has had a far more illustrious career than Conway, which would lead me to conclude he is a better player. The level at which he has plied his trade for the majority of his career being one factor.

Rochina was a selfish show pony and didn’t fit our team. I thought Keith Andrews was solid enough for us and got a tough time... but people are drawing comparisons more to the signing of Whittingham... who I did think would turn out to be decent. Turns out he wasn’t... Gordon Cowans was though.

Sometimes these sort of signings work out, sometimes not. Our fan base bemoan a lack of experience one minute, then claim anyone 32 years or over needs putting down. Personally, as I stated before, I’d rather us sign a winger in his mid 20s, proven and at his peak, who would regularly terrorise defences and help fire us to promotion with ease and stay with us for years to come... we aren’t going to be in the market for one of them though.

That's your opinion so fair enough but it's no wonder you get called a wind up sometimes.

I'll put it down to inexperience and let you off though.

Stats can be deceiving.  Has experience of promotion from L1, Championship and has premier league experience.  Goals are a bonus and hes better than much of what we have, especially if Reed doesn't come back.

And he's available.

I’m not convinced we should be signing a player who couldn’t get into a newly promoted L1 side.

Could be wrong, but it’d feel like a step back to me.

Dowling link is only posotive, the dressing room is full of inexperienced talented young players, they need someone who has been there and done it to learn from and downing fits the mould, weve just lost conway who allthough didnt play much this season was a big character behind the scenes, downing will only improve chapman, Armstrong and brereton, his delivery from crosses and deadballs have been consistently good for the best part of the last decade so having that around the building when our deadball specialist probably wont play much next season can only be a good thing, TM needs to assemble a squad capable of promotion next season, to do that there are many different peices to the puzzle, downing can provide some much needed discipline to performing at a promotion/premier league level for the duration of the season.
