Tony Mowbray Discussion

A few weeks ago it was 6th, then still 6th, then 8th, now 9th. Out of interest what position or run of form would you say is the tipping point?

Who knows what the owners will do or so. I don't know what the set as the target for Mowbray this season. I thought they were a good chance he would go towards the end of the season and given that Waggott tried to oust him from his position last season from what a number of posters have posted on here,

I expected a mid table(around 9 to 14/15th) finish this season given our squad but a possibleablitity of a chance of top 6 if we kept our key players and in form.

If you are asking what my tipping point would be if I was the owner of the club? I would given him until the November international break and judge him on the season performances and results. Make a decision to stick or twist. Plus see who is available and who I want to replace him with if a decision is there to be made.

Of course clubs and executives who know what they are doing don't base a manager's position on 'oh well, we're 9th so everything is fine'. They look at a whole range of measures including team performances, results, trajectory, development, growth, improvement. Here they don't though. Not at Mowbray Rovers where he has god-like status, cannot be questioned and is the only manager who could ever work here.

Its the owners of Blackburn Rovers who decide the manager's future.

Plenty of Rovers fans have different opinions and views on Mowbray and whether he should be here, Everyone is entitled to their opinions whether you believe its right or wrong. I am not going to tell what to do or think over Mowbray's future, I don't hate Mowbray or have any angry towards him. I have a grateful for the rebuilding he done here after Coyle's show here and league 1 promotion in the first sand only season in that league and the 18 months after the promotion season. But I do feel that last time after the Barnsley away game in February that a managerial change should have made then.

Waggott will be happy no matter what as long as his mate is in place.

Not sure they are mates anymore given what people on here have posted on here about falling out last season

There's no chanting towards Mowbray because people just can't be bothered anymore.

Thats where I totally disagree. There is no chanting cos IMO the majority of those who attend Ewood Park are happy with Mowbray in charge. Even at Blackpool away it wasn't Mowbray, its time to go chants, But Mowbray sort it out chants

Maybe those who would voice their unhappiness are the 2000+ who no longer go.

I'm sure Waggo and Mowbray would be quite happy if only 1500 of their biggest fans were left rattling around Ewood. No dissenting voices and 100% support.

Just because there aren't people left being vocal about things doesn't mean people are happy with the current manager. I'm one of them - I've wanted Mowbray out for nearly 2 years and spurts of 3 or 4 wins or being 9th in the second division won't change that. I stick to my guns and opinions - he needs to prove me wrong and he hasn't done - results like today and Luton merely prove me right. The only surprise really has been the demolition of Cardiff but these things happen from time to time. That doesn't mean I will spend my time shouting and bawling at him because I know it is futile when the CEO is his chum and the owners don't watch, listen or care.

I think a lot of others know this which is why they've either given up going and funding it or still go but sit quietly and watch it unfold.

Thing is JH, I’m not sure many of the remaining match goers even have much idea of who Waggott is, never mind his relationship with TM etc.

A lot of folk I now see/sit around seem happy enough to just go and watch a team in blue and white every couple of weeks or so. They certainly don’t have the angst or tendency to deep dive into all things BRFC like us sad bastards on here (case in point, this post is at twenty to ten on a Saturday night!).

I liked his desire to run at players, in fact I felt like he was lacking in the confidence to ideally do it once or twice more, and more often than not we retained the ball once he had done so, with one particularly good pass.

Yet you don't rate Dolan?

When Dolan first burst onto the scene he ran at everyone and would beat most people.

Dolan doesn't have much end product, so I think he is at times a little overhyped, but I think whilst raw he has promising attributes and he definitely has improved and makes our best 11. Perhaps he summed himself up in the first half with a lovely bit of skill and then a very tame shot. Poveda I don't rate based on his limited appearances and he wouldn't start but I think it is only fair to say that today I thought he was bright, the ball to Brereton was very good and he was probably better than Dolan today IMO.

FFS Chaddy, the majority of fans do not support the club expecting a 9th to 14/15th finish in the p1ss pot Championship.  How bereft of ambition we've become.  IMO, five years of Mowbray's mismanagement have put us in this position.  His squad, his player trading, his inability to sell the club to those players stalling on new contracts - the buck stoops with him, full stop, no excuses.

Mowbray has been with us almost 5 years and I think he's a totally sh1t manager, specialising in verbal diarrhea which, unfortunately, many fans swallow sheep like.

My first wish for Christmas is to see turkeys on the supermarket shelves and my second wish is to see the back of, IMO, this dinosaur of a manager and I don't think I'll be disappointed!

I want Mowbray gone too but you've "predicted" that for months with your usual level of accuracy!

Sadly, 9th in the Championship is roughly the pinnacle of the last 11 years of mismanagement under our horrendous owners which is simply not good enough yet probably unlikely to change in the next 11 years.

We are actually currently over achieving this season in my opinion. I thought we were really going to struggle this year.

Mowbray could have walked away in the summer with his head held with the job he done for us.

But no... He's stayed in charge and its clear to see that we are going absolutely nowhere.

The crux of the problem is the owners, we all know that. By the looks of it we are going to loose 3 of our best players for nothing and will probably sell brereton as well.

The worst is yet to come

The protests about Kean told me a lot about our fan base. Anybody with Rovers at heart should have been protesting or shouting for him to be sacked and put pressure on the owners. Instead of being a united club it caused rifts. I witnessed it outside the ground when we were ridiculed for having the temerity of wanting something better for our club. In the ground many of us were told to 'get behind the team' when shouting 'Kean out'. I still maintain getting rid of him early in that relegation season and getting a proper manager in would have kept us up and an opportunity for someone to build. Probably the only truth Kean told was the 1% jibe.

That's history now but looking to the future Mowbray is bomb proof, no pressure from the supporters or anywhere else and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he got a new deal.

11 more years of this f&cking sh+t. Please, I don't think I can cope.

At least Mowbray will go at some point, it'll be a brief moment of joy that'll abruptly end when another HSH clown walks through the door, but you've got to learn to appreciate the small things in these situations.

What did we do to deserve these wretched wankers.

I highly doubt it. This journey is set to run its course till season end. Then there may be a glimmer of hope that we get a new captain at the wheel, who'll guide us to sunnier climes

The captain we have at the wheel, reminds me of the scene from the film "One flew over the cuckoos nest". With the bloke singing , I'm Popeye the sailor-man.

Would Mowbray play nurse Ratchet?

Was talking to a few reasonable Coventry fans yesterday and they were quick to point out Mowbrays part in their struggles a while back.

No surprise to them to see the path he's taking Rovers down as when there he told the owners he could build a cheap team of youth and loans.  Resulted in them being bottom and never recovering.

Basically it was his project, it failed and the only time he took any responsibility was when he walked. In their opinion he knew he'd cocked it up and far from being honorable it was face saving before he felt the wrath.

They'd very little time for the guy as a manager though as usual he always came across as a decent bloke.

The contrast to where they were then and are now says quite a lot.

If his project here is allowed to meanander much longer , a relegation battle beckons ...

He beggers belief !

well thats their decision to work away and not attend the games. Not something I could do. Kean or Coyle appointments didn't forced me away under Venkys reign and neither did Paul Ince appointment under John Williams and Tom Finn reign. I will always attend games unless I can't due to ill health

I'm not sure that Mowbray and Waggott are anyway close as you suspect after last season falling out and that Waggott tried to oust him.

You don't know if the owners watch the game or not so this point is pretty pointless debating it. But they do need funding the club and our academy.

The championship is not piss pot league at all but a league that is very competitive and enjoyable to watch where anyone can beat anyone.

Also instead of saying majority of fans let say its not what you want to support the club for.

Sorry but the buck doesn't stop with Mowbray over new contracts and he has very little part in the contract negotiations to be honest. Waggott does them. Plus you don't factor that most championship clubs have financial reset and not willing to over pay players and in fact cut the budgets and be less reliant on the owners money.

I think he is far from shit manager and he was excellent for the club in the 3 years of his reign given the totally mess that Coyle left us after his sacking.

Mercer, well in all fairness you have been predicting this for the last 9/10 months now and quite frankly its been pathetic to keep reading. Another one of your prediction that never happened.

I have always said since the summer that I suspect that November international break would be where they decide to stick or twist with Mowbray and his future here,

I wonder where Alex Neil is on his longest walk to Ewood Park manager seat we seen ever? Thats must be one long route to the club.

There are others predicting change too, but absolutely no sign of that right now.
