That's how I remember those days too. The little Juninho fella at Boro, Klinsman, Di Canio, Asprilla, and Kanu could add to your list above. The Premier League did create the best league in the world but back then it was a splattering of the best foreign footballers. Preferred it then to how it is now by a country mile.

From my younger days it would be George Best, Rodney Marsh, Tony Curry, Frank Worthington, even our own Tony Field.

Unfortunately/fortunately (whichever way you look at it), I was still learning how to shit in a potty and walk without falling over when most of those were playing.

There was another player with Marsh and Curry. Was it Stan Bowles?

bloody hell he aint looking to good for his age🤨,should be a good read, proper old school pro was patto, never hesitated  to get stuck in when the match got tasty!!,would have lasted about 10 minutes in todays game,in garners autobiography he stated everyone was a bit careful of patto  in training he could put a right ripe tackle in if you got the better of him, what he lacked in ability he made up for in heart

Nah, we were only about 8 or 9.😅

Few years later we moved into the shop on nuttall street....its not there now, just an house now and they all came in for butties at dinnertime.....Lennie, Dave May, all the apprentices lived across from us in digs on nuttall street.......Happy days.

Lennie and Dave used to pick me up every week and take me to Rovers centre of excellence training.

When I was born (QPH) my parents had the shop at the junction of Bolton Road and Longshaw Street. Just higher up than the pub. I was the stereotypical "kid passed over the turnstiles" my father used to take me every week, firsts and reserves, even though he was from Derby originally and a County fan. '58 - '61 moved to Ossy then, Cornwall since ''92.

Rovers till I die 😁

Ye, I went to every reserve game at home for years when I was about 11....they only opened the nuttall street stand and I used to go to the tuck shop in the back and buy a roll of boiled sweets lasted me the whole game.....Wilcox,  Skinner, Hill,etc...

Me and a mate did the same when we had a summer job at Ewood in July 1974. We had a great time painting the crush barriers and repainting some of the adverts that had got worn. Didn’t see many of the first team, it was mainly the apprentices and I can remember John Bailey being a right character. Can also remember a decent stash of porn mags. You don’t forget those things when you are sixteen.

I’ve told this story before on some other nostalgia thread but, one day, there was a yellow JCB digger on the pitch near the half way line. The nets had been removed. My mate got in and started it up. It must have been in gear because it shot off heading for the Darwen End. My mate panicked, couldn’t stop it as it weaved its way towards the perimeter wall, behinds where the nets would have been. It left big tyre marks in the turf and finally stopped when it rammed into the wall with its back wheels spinning on the shale track. Under normal circumstances, we would have been sacked on the spot (and probably taken a couple of back handers) but my mate was the son of the then Commercial Manager and we (or at least he) got off lightly. Great memories.
