What a fantastic day. For the first 20 years of supporting the Rovers, I would never have believed such a day was possible. Keep the faith.

Just on the same theme as DeeCee

This was without doubt the best day I have ever had supporting Rovers and my first visit to Wembley. We had nothing, we expected nothing. 28k Rovers fans travelled to see us as beat 1st Division Charlton and lift The Full Members Cup - getting goose bumps now.

fantastic memories,vince o`keefe deputising for the injured terry gennoe if i remember,he was man of the match as well,30000 rovers fans and not many charlton fans☺️,loved the mackay years,he nearly got us to the promised land of the first division on a budget that was virtually non existant

What a day that was. For a promoted side to go and win a cup in their first season back was some achievement. There's next to no chance of a promoted side doing that these days.

One word to sum up that period of time. Exciting. The players we had, the football we were playing. The whole ride to the final was exciting. Thumping Arsenal along the way, the two games against Sheff Wednesday in the Semis.

Talking of that Semi final, I've posted the highlights below just to look back on. Two moments of real quality from those ties:

Dunny's pass at 1:38.

Also, the move for Cole's goal in the return leg. Starts at 3:34 of the clip below. Brilliant. The commentator sums it up perfectly.

Turning the clock forward the the present incumbent manager. We win away in the first leg 2-1. So for the return leg at Ewood what would Mogadon’s team talk be?????

One thing I can be sure of, it wouldn’t be a win by the margin of 4-2. We would be parking the bus for 90 mins.

How many Charlton supporters bothered to show up?  I was there and reckon appx 10,000 which was poor to my way of thinking considering the distance they had to travel. 

They were in the top division aswell, wonder what their average attendance was that season?

charlton were playing at selhurst park in that era,the valley having been closed down,pretty sure they were getting poor crowds as they struggled in the division,they just managed to stay up with new play offs system(think they beat leeds over 2 legs) and they were playing at their hated rivals ground,got to remember as well,even the likes of man utd and liverpool were getting **** crowds in those days,hooliganism and heysel rendering the game a bit toxic

Are you sure Charlton ground shared with Palace? 

My only trip to West Hams Upton Park was to watch Rovers v Charlton. 

My memory is not what it was mate.

They used both Palace and West Ham’s grounds over a six year period.

1985-1991 charlton shared selhurst park as the valley was in serious disrepair and failed it`s safety cert,the club did`nt have the money to start the repairs

1991-93 charlton moved into upton park as wimbledon took their place and shared selhurst park

93-to present supporters and business men raised enough money to repair the valley and they moved back

So glad we got to see that down at Ewood. Souness was a the perfect manager for us at that time.

I recently watched the League Cup final on YouTube as I hadn't actually seen it since the day we were there. Can't believe what a great game it actually was. The only thing I remember from the day was that most of the Spurs fans had left with 10 minutes still to play. I couldn't believe it since we were only one goal ahead and it was a close game.

Souness also let Tony Parks lead out the team. Top bloke.

 

The atmosphere at Ewood back then was absolutely amazing.
