I'm not saying he's a world beater and he'll always be up against it being as small as he is, but I think he's developing pretty well all things considered. 

Definitely agree with your second point. It seems like we've had rocks or diamonds up front for a long while. Or in Brereton's case, rocks that turn into diamonds!

He was playing really well last season, our form fell off a cliff with his injury.

He's had a good season up to now apart from the 3 away games when the team, as a whole, struggled.

What abuse? Or do you mean criticism that's being re-defined as abuse to suit an argument?

Never received any abuse, fans have been great with him, just like they were when BB was terrible for years, just like they are being with Gueye who is without doubt one of the worst strikers I’ve seen in a blue and white shirt on current form. TD has put a shift in and some good performances throughout, so why would he be ‘abused’?

I like Dolan. I think most Rovers fans do. He's not Premiership standard but I'd imagine a few Championship sides would happily take him on for no transfer fee.

I just don't think Dolan is good enough for the Championship tbh

The days he shows up are too few and far between. That inconsistency puts him a league or two below

Quite often he can misplace passes, run into danger and have such a baggy touch that the whole attack breaks down. He isn't a number 10. He isn't a striker. He isn't a winger. So I struggle to find a place for him. In the long-term we will need to find better

TBF you can say that about a lot of players in this league, that's why they're in this league and not the one above.

There’s a player in there but unless he can dramatically improve his game management skills he’ll never reach his potential. His decision making is pretty poor. He gets as many decisions wrong as he gets right.

He's still young and has time to find some consistency... though even if he did I doubt he'd ever be above Championship level.

Not sure on the ins-and-outs of his contract situation, could well be the case that he's getting low-balled... but I was annoyed after reading in Elliott Jackson's article yesterday that "The current expectation is that Dolan will assess his options in the summer and leave on a free transfer".

What is the kid expecting? He has 1 good game for every 4 that he's awful... he needs to remember how Rovers gave him a lifeline when he was binned off by Preston.

I think he will indeed leave on a free, and like many before him, Dolan will see that the grass isn't always greener.

In general, I dont think the narrative that the grass isnt greener for many really applies anymore. It usually is, even if that involves spells of Premier League football followed by loans to play regular top end Championship football.

With Dolan though, I dont think he necessarily will go onto bigger and better things. I dont think he should feel an obligation of loyalty though.

I'm with everybody bar Phil. He doesn't get "abuse", he gets pulled up for his inconsistent erratic play. As has been pointed out, he's not an out and out striker, a winger, or a second striker. He works hard but his decision making is sub-par. His finishing is mediocre, and he dwells on the ball for too long. He certainly isn't a Premier League standard player.

Every game I watch Rovers on TV over here it has some bog standard commentator doing the game, with no 2nd "expert" helping. It doesn't matter who it is (they all sound the same to me) they all get excited mentioning Dolan's name like he's Rovers best player. Maybe it's because he runs around a lot?

I wouldn't say next few, he isn't that inconsistent, but he's always likely to throw in a stinker, but who isn't?

The thing with Dolan is that when we do lose, or sometimes even draw, he can receive an unrealistic amount of stick for an overall poor team performance.

Some very unfair comments about Dolan on here I think. Is he absolutely top drawer? No, but I'd nevertheless have him pegged as one of our slightly better players and is the ideal age for a player you'd want to keep at the Club.

It's difficult to have a worthwhile opinion on this without knowing what the Club are offering and what he's asking for. I can't remember if he's had a new deal since originally signing but if not he'll currently be on relative peanuts for a Championship player  who regularly starts.

From the players' point of view, he's probably at the wrong Club at the wrong time caught in the middle of Venky's/Waggott/Pasha inspired austerity and belt tightening. My expectation is he'll be the latest in a succession of players to leave for nothing and he'll end up at another Championship Club on considerably more money. On balance they'll probably be better for it as well.

From our point of view the key question should be not the wages per se but can we replace him with better? I'd venture to suggest the answer will be "no" and he'll be replaced with another cheap journeyman approaching the end of his career who was never any good to start with like Hedges.
