Been a while since I posted on here, but quite an old tune that I have been listening to quite a lot recently:

 

If you are a fan of Mungos Hi Fi you'll know they have been releasing bangers for years now.

Gardna and Charli Brix are now based in Bristol - the new home of all things electronic in the UK. London died years ago. Charli Brix's voice was made for music like this

Bristol is home to the record label "Born on Road", where dub music meets DNB and Jungle. Saw their set at Boomtown which blew the place apart.

Aye, Fred Again is quality mate.

It’s an older one, but if you like this one, there’s a Jamie XX Boiler Room set on a rooftop in London, where he pretty much just plays music by artists from London.

One of my go to mixes, that one!

Tried a Fred Again Boiler Room club set, but it was a bit hard for me. Prefer the lighter, more vocal stuff.

Been listening to this absolute belter

Phenomenal stuff from John McGeoch.

I remember years ago in the Napier some guy, who strangely looked like Howard Devoto, would always enthusiastically tell me about how great Magazine were and that I should listen to them.

They were pretty great to be fair.

I'm going through a Roxy Music phase at the moment, some of the early stuff was superb, brash, abbrasive sounds and nothing like the later stuff which put more off for years.

They released the self titled 'Roxy Music' in 1972, for a debut album its superb. They then went on to relsease 'For your Pleasure' which is also a great album.

They weren't glam rock like Bowie, who was in the charts at the time, but the music was great in an era where anything went!

I actually really like the later stuff. It was way ahead of it's time.

One of the rare occasions where every release by an artist is essential.

I think the early stuff fits that general description UD. But it’s a great listen to be honest. 

Also spent this evening listening to Linda Ronstadt, what a voice, part of the  Laurel Canyon set.

Agree with that.

My favourite album is probably For Your Pleasure then the nex maybe Manifesto.

I got a box set a few years ago  - “ The SAR story “. SAR was Sam Cooke’s record label. I’ve gone back to that recently.

I started following the Stones in the early 60’s, but it wasn’t until I looked up who had originally written/sung their cover versions that I came across The Valentino’s original version of It’s All Over Now, which is on the SAR story. For me, both versions are excellent and reflect the times they were released.

Yeah, Bobby Womack was in The Valentinos. Their version of “ Looking For A Love “ is on the box set that The J Geils Band covered later. Along with “ Soothe Me “ by The Sims Twins that Sam and Dave did later.

I had all the early Stones stuff by the original artists on vinyl  back in the day. “ Honest I Do “ by Jimmy Reed, “ I’m A King Bee “ by Slim Harpo “, “ Susie-Q “ Dale Hawkins, “ Good Thing Going “ by Barbara Lynn etc
