Time for bed, Joe🤷‍♂️

Buy league 1 players all over eventually we end up there...

While I understand the sentiment I have to disagree with this. There are gems in league 1 who if can be found can be a real asset to any club in this division. Importantly they don’t require sizeable transfer fees or wages.

For example, Pickering - I don’t think anyone can disagree that he is an upgrade on Douglas and Bell. Not only that he is 22, and only has had a handful of games at this level, He’s only going to get better. Not only that he has delivered 2 assists already. I know he has his doubters in this forum, but I believe by the end of the season there will be no doubt of his quality. There are many other examples.

However if you are buying and relying on players who are just league one quality players, rather than players who are playing in league one that are a class above, with no sizeable room for growth of development then of course you are going to struggle.

In terms of Dale, I haven’t heard much of him. However he is 22, scored 11 goals from wide positions last season and offers our squad pace, something we desperately lack. 500k are the rumoured fees involved, with Crewe fans adamant on Twitter that he is worth at least double that. From what it sounds like, he is probably worth the gamble, but it is by no means a guarantee and I would still expect us to bring a more establish forward player in.

He is an attacker, with one decent season to his career, although still quite young.  We must have just as good in our young lads

I want a 27, 28 year old now, we've got kids coming out of our ears....someone in their prime, bit of muscle/aggression who can take us into a full season.

Chapman looked the part at Shrewsbury last season. Is this kid from Crewe any better ?

Yes - weirdly he’s proven his own point with Whiteman. Came from League 1 and PNE haven’t won a game since!! 🤣🤣🤣

That doesn’t mean Whiteman is a bad player. Veron was one of the best midfield players in the World but it just didn’t work out at Utd. Same with our own Chris Sutton, terrific at Norwich, Rovers and Celtic, but a flop at Chelsea.

We need a central goalscorer, if Dale came in as a cheap, young talent as well then fine, not as a direct alternative to Obafemi.

With Dale surely you buying potential the same as Obafemi?

I don't know much about Dale myself. Seen his goals and assists on YouTube. Look good but massive question can he step up, improve and score goals/assists.

Have you seen much of him?

You seen much of him? Could you see him becoming a striker long term.

I saw a couple of Crewe games last year simply to check Pickering out. That and some online clips so I'd say no. I'm not in a position to judge.

My comment was based on the limited amount I've seen of him. Wide forward, shoots with both feet, runs at players. Like Arma though he looks to me like he more knocks it past someone to make space for a shot, rather than, dropping a shoulder, changes of pace, Rothwell style. Which like Armw when wide can result in blind alleys, especially if an opposition defender backs off has a bit of intelligence and doesn't overly commit. Those are the similarities I've seen in snippets but I've not seen enough to form an opinion on whether he'd have the potential to develop further, or switch positions. To be honest there's a decent wedge of guesswork and assumptions in the above. And I'm only really commenting on him based on the fact his mum has suddenly had a social media splurge and followed a couple of accounts.

Owen Dale has massive Arma vibes with a decent delivery on him, still young with room to improve big time.

If that did prove to be the case hopefully we don't go and get put trousers pulled down by whacking a massive 40% sell on clause in there this time

Sounds like it’s done to me Joe!

It does sound like there's something in it. Mind you, wasn't there a foreign midfielder who followed rovers accounts a couple of years ago and we all thought he'd be signing. Never came to pass

Were you not the guy who used to push whiteman?

Whiteman league 1 stats  - 158 games and 28 goals from midfield , captain at 22....sheff utd and man utd before that....

Dale stats in league 1 - 51 games 11 goals from attack....Northern Premier before that

Large difference in terms of experience.

Linton Mania from Hannover 96 would be a good value buy in an attacking position. Was heralded as the next superstar and Hannover wanted 10 million for him 2 years ago. Werder Bremen can have him for €1 million now. Still only 22. Next Sane apparently.

On 2nd thoughts, BREXIT may have killed this one.

He'll be the next in-sane if he works under Mowbray

Not saying this means it's done, but Janet Dale, mother of Owen, has just started following Rich Sharpe, BRFCS, Rovers Analytics, Rovers Chat and the Official Blackburn twitter account this evening...

Am I missing something here Joe, he’s described as an attacker with a 1 goal in 8 appearances at league one level..?

He scored 11 goals last season?

Besides Joe isn't recommending him as a signing which he stated was just informing us that Dales mother has started following accounts to do with Rovers

They've started this fresh approach with homegrown or cheap youth so might as well see it through now.

500k for this lad who might come good or a 500k loan fee for someone who'll be gone in a season. Or 500k in wages for a 28 yrd old who'll only manage 12 games ?

It's a lottery whichever way it goes but we've done 2 of those options to death and gone nowhere.

I’m confused, I’m asking if he’s the right player and what Joe thinks of him. I didn’t say he’s recommending him?

A fresh approach?? So we have had another reset then!!

Agree with all of that.

I'd add too that quite a lot is made on here about the envious glances that we're casting towards Brentford and the way in which they have based their growth & success on buying low and selling high, often from the lower leagues. We will obviously have to wait and see how well Dale and Pickering cut the mustard, but this strategy of targeting the best young players from L1 appeals to me a lot more than putting all of our small budget on loans.

If this is correct why did Arma sign for him 3 times, Gallagher return, Chapman re-sign, Dack extend when he could have soon moved on for free?

Arma didn't sign for him when we really needed him to. Dack was out with a long term injury at the time so it was very much in his best interests to re-sign, Chapman hasn't done much yet so it was probably in his best interests to re-sign as well and Gallagher is absolutely useless and Southampton saw us coming with that one.

Why won't Nyambe, Rothwell, Lenihan, Brereton etc re-sign for him?

taking 7 points from 9 is absolutely part of this sinister plan.

Lot of people getting very cocky about the start, proves Mowbray's a better manager than the likes of Hughton etc etc........

Whilst we're all grateful for the seven points It's a marathon not a sprint and logic would suggest that we're still in for a long old season given the squad we currently have thanks to Mowbray's misuse of Club resources over the last 3 years.

If you're determined to have an anti TM stance then I likely won't be able to change that. However I'm trying to look at this with a degree of balance.

Arma had earned his prem chance, he couldn't do any more in the championship. Also don't forget he reportedly took a pay cut to sign for Mowbray - as did Gally. Irrespective of your opinion of Gally, he signed again for Mowbray, on less money - hardly screams a boss you don't want to play for.

Dack I seem to recall signed back up before getting injured again, he may have thought he owed the club after the first injury. But again, do you do that if you don't like the gaffer?

Chapman reportedly had interest after his productive loan spell - why sign up for Mowbray again if you don't like him?

You're entitled to dislike Mowbray, but the actions of a few fair of our players, recent past and present, indicate he is a decent bloke.
