I'd say on the face of it the squad much weaker.

Last season we had a 28 goal striker, loans which were exceptional in harwood-bellis and Elliott (both come with big reputations and expectations) both delivered with interest.

I think our summer dealings has us at least 5 places lower come the end of the season, if not more if we cannot plug the goals we've lost.

We have started the season well, but have done so the last couple of seasons. February onwards we press the self distruct button. I'm not sure this time we will get enough points on the board come january to prevent us being dragged into the relegation fight.

And we finished 15th last season. I have a terrible feeling the decline will come well before Christmas.

The fact that Tayo Edun came out of nowhere and got done at a fairly small fee suggests that this is what we're looking to do. I don't mind us avoiding paying millions on players but the model needs to be consistent and it needs to have longevity.

Where does this leave Pickering?

By signing Edun is Mowbray writing Pickering off already?

The lad has had a mixed start at Rovers but he has potential. Unless Edun is significantly better what's the point in signing him?

Can't really explain why they're still here. There is a non-sinister reason that I've heard put forward and it may be correct but if true it flies in the face of common sense and good business practice.

Then I find it very plausible!

Which fits the Venkys way of working perfectly to be fair.

Unless the Crewe boy is a Maggot signing and Mogadon is going rogue

These wet behind the ear local "journalists" aren't helping. So may questions that could be asked. If they did their job properly they'd be feeling extremely uncomfortable in each press conference. The last thing you need with a management team like this is a bunch of messenger boys.

I think that's quite harsh. Both of those people you refer to in such a derogatory way gave up their time tonight, for free, to get involved with a live show for the benefit of the supports and they were really great.

For what its worth, you only have to look at the reaction to the whole Rich vs Sam Gallagher debacle that unfolded where he was scolded by the club and the players for daring to say he hadn't done that well, to see that them pushing harder wouldn't really get us anywhere.

Competition to answer the last question. You need at least two in every area and with one contracted to 2025 and the other contracted to 2024 (+12 month option) you've got some longevity there between the two of them.

FWIW I think Tayo Edun will make a midfielder.

I think in Pickering & Edun you can see that there's clearly a hope to bring in players of a certain age, at a certain price point. They're our last two permanent additions.

Not the point I'm making   Why another left back so quick when we need other areas covering like right back as Ryan is off....how will it affect HP morale so new into a new higher league.   Doesn't look like good man management to me.

To be fair to the local journos, Waggott is a vindictive little man who would likely ban them from the ground and sever all communications if they upset him. That would likely lead to them getting the bullet from the near dead publications they work for.

At right back you've got significantly more cover than LB. Before Edun:

RB:
Nyambe
Rankin-Costello
Pike
Buckley
Carter

LB:
Harry Pickering
Lenni Rae Cirino.

He's a left back  by trade. Why buy him and then move him

He's a central midfielder who became a left-back. I'm not saying they move him straight away, but I think he ends up back there once he's fully developed.

JRC doesn't like it

Pike - ??

Buxkley- right back? Give over.

Carter....maybe.

We need a specialist.

It's not hard this one. We needed a left back more than we needed a right back. Surely we can all agree on that?

What are you talking about we bought Crewe boy. He was the new super left back and now you want another one.

If you have Buckley as a possible right back JRC has to be down as a possible left back option. Not that I would ever play either in those positions.

The Dutchman is also a RB option though.

I’m all for longevity but looking at the list of players out of contract next summer is frightening. We are up shit creek if we don’t get those lads tied down.

I’m a little disappointed we didn’t loan out the likes of Magloire, Cirino and co, would have been good to get some experience given game time here will be limited with the loanees filling the match day squad
