he only got the job because he`s never likely to say or do anything remotely controversial,a perfect fa appointment, look at the history of who did`nt get the job despite being the best candidate

Southgate was the best English candidate and still is the best choice right now.

The England manager should always be English. Its always delivered our best tournament results

An international game in a few midweeks with domestic football continuing was the case up to the mid 90s. It is only since then it was decided by the authorities to invent the two worst words in football; ‘international break’

Football is a results game and I can't see us getting anything at world cup with Southgate. Too late to change now but hope after so many defeats his card is marked

Game v Germany is on C4 too. Speaks volumes! Not even ITV want to show it.

Interviews after game must surely feature in a "what happens next?".

Answer: more adverts.

Channel 4 won the England football broadcasting rights. Outbid both BBC, Sky and ITV.

All that matters is tournament results. Southgate has delivered semi finals and final in his tournament football in his 2 tournaments.

For me Southgate is the right man for this tournament but he needs to ditch old alliances. Currently the line up needs to be.

————————Pickford—————————-

James—Tomori—Stones—Trippier

——————Rice——————Bellingham

AA——————Foden—————Sancho

————————Kane————————

Until we produce midfielders that can control possession we will never win anything.  Bellingham is a pretty good passer but he's not a modric or de bruyne.  Rice is a good all action midfielder but hes not a passer of the ball. The best English midfielder who could control a game was carrick and we badly underused him

Very true. Real shame for all the young talent coming through there isn't a deep lying playmaker in there.

Closest we've produced in that style the last 10 years is Harry Winks but lacks international quality. Maybe something for Adam Wharton to aim for?!

My team would be

                  Pickford

Tripper Stones Dier Chilwell

             Rice Bellingham

Foden         Mount      Grealish

                     Kane

Problem with that are the under performing players:

mount chillwell grealish dier should he is only good in a back 3

I'd stay with 3 at the back, gives us some defensive cover where we've been weak for years. Gives the opportunity to get TAA in the side who's attacking output could be crucial but is defensively weak. He can get  away with it in a 4 at Liverpool (although is being called out a bit now) but not with England. Bellingham and Rice as the midfield two is a better option than rice and Phillips as well.

I would say Wilshire but injuries robbed us of him
