Conte is a good appointment for Spurs, should shore them up and may help motivate some of their better players.

If appointed Emery is better than I expected Newcastle to be able to get in their position, but I think their survival will depend on how wisely they spend in January.

I'm not sure Emery has what it takes to turn around a club floundering like Newcastle in such a short time frame - unless there is a better foundation there than it appears on the surface.

I would not be surprised if the Newcastle takeover influenced Conte's decision, after he turned down Spurs in the summer. The Premier League bought some of the best Serie A players from last season - Lukaku, Ronaldo and Romero. Now, with Newcastle's Saudi money, the Premier League will completely wipe the floor with the other leagues for years - at least, in terms of transfers.

Perhaps, I'm just jaded, but the professional game is increasingly boring me with its hyperbole and short-termism. Consider the Championship top ten goalscorers, currently: Mitrovic, Brereton, Solanke, Gyökeres, Swift and Joël Piroe. I know very little about some of them but looking at the ones I know of, it gives me little hope for the clubs that get promoted.

The elite game is increasingly being rigged by money and losing touch with the rest of the football pyramid. It's been like that for decades but it's now even more extreme. Conte's Spurs will flash some money and before long, he'll be off to another club.

There was renewed momentum towards public demand for a degree of fan ownership in British clubs after the Super League debacle, but that seems to have been washed away by the wild investment. The self-serving authorities are blinding fans with financial wealth as the game is being killed.

Edit: I think some gains were made at Man U and Chelsea regarding fan participation in decision-making after the Super League protests.

Excellent appointment by Spurs. Conte has reunited his working partnership with the Spurs Sporting Director. Hopefully he can get the best out of Kane and Son. 

If Emery is appoint as Newcastle then it a good appointment on the face of it but can he get Newcastle out of this bad run. Not sure but he will have money to spend.

It's becoming increasingly congested up there. West Ham are throwing their hat in the ring for 4th place, Leicester have got themselves fighting for 5th/6th place every year. It all leaves me wondering how far away we are and how much it would take for us to ever get back there. Obviously, I don't mean challenging City and Liverpool. I mean breaking into the top ten and then going on to challenge for a Europa League place. That scenario feels a million miles away right now and the worry is that the top 8 of the Premier League will soon become a closed shop. I can't believe United have let Conte go to Spurs without putting up any sort of fight. They have missed a golden chance, but I'm not complaining. Ole's doing a fine job.

Newly promoted Ipswich Town finished 5th and 3 points off the Champions League under George Burley. I believe that was the best a newly promoted club had done since Forest in 94/95.

Whilst it is an anomaly and the Premier League has been dominated by a few clubs, Souness' newly promoted Rovers finished 7th, I believe.

Concentration of money is making it a lot harder. Perhaps, promoted sides being raided of players before a ball is kicked, as Norwich were with Buendia, will become the norm. Clubs will accept relegation from the start and look to absorb money so they can return next time.

Correction - Rovers finished 10th in 2001-02, on promotion and 6th, the following year, as Mattyblue clarified.

Emery is set to turn down Newcastle.  Proves that unless its London most top managers don't want to manage clubs like Newcastle.  Apparently lowe, xavi, have rejected Newcastle.  Good

I have to admit it is funny watching Newcastle seemingly struggle to attract top quality management.

You'd expect someone like Loew - unemployed - would jump at the chance to join a PL Club and a project with vast resources - seemingly not.

If it is true then Emery would rather stay at floundering Villarreal and Xavi in Qatar. Conte would sooner go to Spurs - working under a famously tight chairman in Levy - than chase the Saudi money at Newcastle.

I think it is probably just delaying the inevitable because with that sort of cash there sooner or later they will get the top drawer manager they desire or get themselves into a position to get them. It is just a case of getting through this season and to safety.

As daft as it might sound they might be better just giving Allardyce or Hodgson a call - massive bonus for survival. It might not be popular or sexy but it would be survival and give them time to plan ahead whilst a safe pair of hands keeps things ticking over.

Have to chuckle at the Eddie Howe stuff - yes he did very well at Bournemouth for a number of years but ultimately relegated them with an expensively assembled squad and hasn't worked in nearly 18 months. Not sure he is what Newcastle need in their difficult position.

In their position I'd be trying to poach Dyche, damages us and gives them someone who will get them out of the bottom three. Can let him have a season to build and then either get rid or bring in the big name.

If they were mid-table it would be a much easier sell. The fact they are in the relegation zone and haven't won a single game so far this season makes it a pretty huge risk for any manager with a decent reputation, massive salary or not. Most managers of a high calibre will already have more money than they know what to do with anyway. 

If Emery and Howe were the two managers Newcastle had narrowed it down to, what exactly is the strategy? Two totally different managers with very few commonalities. I'd love to know what the criteria was to end up with those two as the final options.

They have money and plenty of it but they don't understand that in football they need proper experience and knowhow  

I had ver surprised how slow they have been in appointing a new CEO, Sporting Director and Head Coach. 

It appears that Howe or Fonseca are the 2 options for the head coach job. Not sure they are the right options for them. But they need an experience football manager/head coach. Maybe someone like Mark Hughes or Rudi Garcia. 

But they need a transfer plan for January and appointing CEO and Sporting Director is crucial.

They want a head coach not a manager. Probably why Dyche isn't a target. 

But it's crucial their sporting director and head coach have same thinking and understanding on transfers matters.
