January Transfer window 2022

I know nothing about this guy apart from the YouTube video posted a couple of pages back.

First impression. In the very first clip after galloping past a player he looked up and deftly chipped a perfect cross in. Something I've never seen Nyambe do.

Next impression. Boy does he like a tackle. Then, geez he really does like a tackle. Then, bloody hell this bloke is a bit reckless. He looks like a red card waiting to happen in that video. Also made a great recovery challenge after being fast asleep at one point. Rapid as anything though and looks super strong.

Essentially he looks physically very similar to Nyambe. Better going forward, but suspect defensively.

Looks strong as a ox & fast too …

Interesting video. Seems to be as fast and strong as Nyambe, whilst having a few things in his locker that Ryan doesn't. Most notably some ability and conviction with crossing and shooting. 6 assists (just one goal though) in I think it said 73 appearances for them. I know it's just a highlight reel but I'm not sure you could find that many decent crosses from Nyambe over that length of games.

He is also ruthless in the challenge. Sometimes to the point of rash. Not many highlight vids would show you a couple of fouls too. 2 red cards and I think it was 19 yellows in that 70ish spell shows he doesn't always get it right. Some of his successful tackles on there, I thought the player was dawdling on the ball a bit too much, and quicker thinking players in our league might draw the foul.

So seems fast, strong, uncompromising but possibly rash. Probably as capable as RN defensively but prone to giving away fouls. With a bit more to offer in the final third. No signs of what his aerial ability is like, which suggests it won't be great (not a strength of Nyambe's either tbf). First impressions from that video anyway.

Lol very similar impressions to myself but posted just before I was finished!

Another thing the video revealed that I meant to mention - you pronounce it Zay-fuck. Ample opportunity for chants...

I also found myself wondering what has caused him to struggle breaking into the Hertha side. I think the clips were from his Groningen days.

They COULD, but they appear to be relying on the advice of their manager and CEO who seem to be on record as saying that during the pandemic the manager didn't think it was an appropriate time to be handing out new deals and it would upset the rest of the squad.

And, having previously landed in trouble with FFP, the CEO now seems to favour wittering on out about "a wage structure" which if there is one needs a massive degree of flexibility as different players have different levels of ability and could fetch vastly differing amounts were they to be sold and he let the cat out of the bag anyway when he claimed they would have offered Armstrong a lot more money to stay. So they can obviously make exceptions if they wish.

The whole thing boils down to Mowbray and Waggott not anticipating the problem in advance and not sorting it out at the appropriate time.

And, if we don't go up, no doubt we'll have the same problem with Kaminsky and Travis in 12 months time.

I can only assume that you have real idea of what is going on.

Sounds like a lad who has had a good footballing education, won’t have been on much money at all at Groningen, but you think his Hertha wages might be a stumbling block. I’m no expert, but might there be possible work permit issues too? Good age, and much more positive about a signing like this than Cyrus Christie.

Not giving it too much thought until something from a more reputable source appears though.

Are you really tho?Is Nyambe currently that much better than Pickering who we picked up for 650k?Pickering seems to be getting better game by game.

I wasn’t sure about Pickering until our recent good run - I’m loath to say much that’s critical about any of our current starting 11, in the last few months they have really stepped up to the plate as a team. I do think Pickering was anointed by some last January as a wonder signing, and sometimes the praise has been a bit OTT. He looked defensively shaky at times during his early games. He had an utter horrorshow away at Huddersfield, though everyone is capable of one of them. I think he’s adapting pretty well to the step up and has been solid but unspectacular since. Another spell out though, yet his hamstrings aren’t questioned like Nyambe’s! I think he’s given far more of a pass due to not being Amari’i Bell.

Re Nyambe it isn't the end of the world I just hope it's the agent being unreasonable and not us. He could be about to damage his career, in fact he may have done so already. It doesn't always work out as well as it did for Raya, we have seen that many times in the past with far bigger and better players than Nyambe: A talent that could go either way and should be asking for a fairly modest senior wage as it stands.

Checked a points calculator against either his minutes played in 2020-21 or this year and looks like he qualifies. Playing Bundesliga football is a big factor making him eligible (although not too hard to cross the hurdle playing Eredivisie football either).

After skimming that video, I quite like the look of this Zeefuik.

If the speculation is true, I think it most definitely suggests Nyambe is on his way out... not ideal, but Zeefuik as a replacement + £3m for Nyambe's sale isn't exactly the worst thing that could happen to the club this window.

Sky Sports Germany are quite reputable, aren't they?

Sky Sports outlets throughout the world make millions of pounds peddling transfer rumours with little or no foundation. I might get a bit more excited about it if Rich Sharpe gets an inside track from the club.

Nyambe can go for me, bang average. Even more so in a 5 than a 4. The most replaceable of the 'big 3' contract rebels. Good statement from the club too, 7 days in and 2 RB's acquired. James Brown comes with promising reviews and this guy is a good age and good experience. I feel like Mowbray and Waggott will try and use this 'false' (hear me out) position to sign some players this window for the long term. This lad was linked to Fulham and now is looking like signing for us. Start of the season, we we're opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of being an attractive club to sign for. Many fans and bookies had us staring at the drop. Can't help but feel our league position at the moment, quite rightly, will entice players to sign for us, and we need to make the most of that, just in case it's a flash in the pan. As good a chance this season as we will have in the next 5 seasons to get promotion, it's wide open for whoever wants it most.

I think we will massively regret selling Nyambe.

The same people hating on Nyambe are the same that said Raya is shite.

I don't see that there's necessarily a correlation. I'm not the biggest fan of Nyambe, yet I truly believed that Raya was going to make it to the Prem (I was hoping with us mind).

There was bags of technical ability in Raya and you could see the scope he had to improve even during his poor spells. With Nyambe, physically he's brilliant and it's his physical attributes that lend to his best trait (his one to one defending). Technically speaking he's very average and given the amount of exposure he's had in the first team, he hasn't improved to the extent we might've expected early doors.

Completely agree with the comments that he's better suited to being a defensive RB in a back 4, but he looks out of his depth as a RWB in a 5 because he just doesn't have a final ball in him and just looks devoid of ideas when he passes the half way line (which is a key element to his role in our current system). The weekend was a prime example of that.

That's not to say I'd be happy to see him go. He's one of our academy boys and he's plenty good enough for the Championship and should be retained if demands are realistic. I do think he's the most easily replacable out of him, Lenihan and Rothwell though.

Sharpe is reporting it but looks like it's just from the same source rather than insider knowledge.
