Know much about Jake Garrett or Adam Wharton, to name but 2?

Who look to have great potential but would it be fair putting the weight of a promotion push on their shoulders if need be?

I'm happy enough with the window but if letting these lads out surely at least 1 forward option will be brought in?

There’s no bid in for Solanke, and Harvey Elliott isn’t ever happening. That’s from a SSN journo.

Haha - surely these weren’t the two deals posters were cryptically saying were possible.
Absolutely no chance whatsoever.

I don’t think we are badly off for attacking options with Brereton, Khadra, Gallagher, Dolan, Hedges, JRC - not to mention Poveda and Markanday who we still have to pay, or Dack. Another would’ve been nice, but we’d struggle to bring in the target man everyone would like to sit on the bench and maybe get 10 minutes here and there.

You'll be there punching your weight at Swansea and Forest next week Adam will you?....you know paying your dough to the cause?

I'm sorry but if your answer is no on either count, then you're a hypocrite.

If not, I apologise and I stand corrected but you'll get my general point!

You appear to be on somewhat of a high horse.  What has contributing to Swansea's coffers got to do with anything?

I'm guessing this mystery striker has failed to materialise and it's the fans' fault?

Its clear that they are shuffling the numbers on the wage bill to try and make room for additions. Chapman out, Butterworth out, McBride out - the sort of moves that would suggest someone coming in but I suspect are actually late attempts to free up wages to do a cheap last minute deal.

Venkys have set an annual budget and that involves a strict limit on the wage bill, no pay increases and very little scope on transfer fees.

Loans the order of the day to avoid any long term commitment or fee.

My suspicion yesterday was that Mowbray had decided he was going to sacrifice Rothwell shipping him off to Bournemouth for a few million on the basis that cash would enable him to do business today. That move collapsing means no money in the kitty other than for Giles for Wolves which will be heavily subsidised as they will want him to play regularly with a view to progressing next season.

I had wondered whether our lofty position and with a prize tantalisingly close whether there would be a change in approach but this seems to be a January like every other. Lots of talk but come deadline day little action.

No prizes for trying and failing. Say it every time.

I did say at the start of the window that retaining the players that had got us here was the priority and no major departures would be a success if we used our budget to resolve the contract situations.

But to be here with no progress on contracts, a growing injury list, very weak bench and options at Luton and short of the business claimed to be getting done - disappointing but not surprising.

I know they're untried, untested Academy players that you're asking to step into the middle of a promotion race.

I didn't say that though did I?!....but said their character was sufficient if they were asked to do so short term.

What would you do sign some no marks for 3 years (loans are filled out) that will subsequently stand in these  lads way in future?

This year, the potential for promotion is a bonus that nobody saw coming, the plan was for next year.

I defy any bugger to tell me that they fancied us to be second in the league come February!...let those that got us here have the opportunity to see the season out.

We should all be pouring in to Ewood, sorry but other than price for certain games, there's NO excuse not to. (IMO)

Do PL clubs have to register their squads again after a transfer window ? Just thinking if there’s a player who will out of contract in summer and doesn’t get named in their playing squad would they be allowed to leave in Feb as a free agent

Patterson would have been the man for me, we'd have got a couple of good years service out of him

for £1m quid, ready to go for Saturday too.

Yeah 100%.

Would have been a classic deadline signing, just gives us a wee bit more experience up top. Very good in the air.

No, I think what he is saying is that they could cover if and when needed.

I'll open up here:

I can categorically state a bid DID go in for Solanke and was at least until 3 hrs ago under consideration. That was from the mouth of a Bournemouth scout over the phone into my actual ear.

I had remained hopeful (and still do to an extent, but ever more doubtful) because of Bournemouth hoovering up 5-6 players while we seemingly clear the decks of 4 of ours.

The other rumour was Harvey Elliott on loan - which I doubted but hey-ho could've happened.

As I said in the original post, both doubtful but definitely WERE on the cards and definitely would've been statements.

AS it happens, I remain pretty happy with the window all things considered.

I defy any bugger to convince me Mowbray was ever operating with any sort of plan.

He's stumbled onto a system that works - with the CB he sent out on loan twice 'cos he didn't think he was up to snuff being pivotal.

I'd try to sign an experienced CM who can pass the ball - Davenport / Johnson can do the spoiling job if Travis gets injured (although nowhere near as well as him).

Giles will make a big difference because Van Hecke, Ayala and Wharton win A LOT of headers in the opposition box and by all accounts he has very good dead ball delivery. To not try and bring in reinforcements upfront or midfield is baffling though. A sign that we're content to maybe scrape into the Top 6.
